2011 NFL free agency and trade thread
« on: July 27, 2011, 03:32:25 PM »
Jets just signed Holmes to a five year deal worth 50 million. Apparently it's very incentive and bonus based with a cap hit of only 2.45 million for the first season.

Aso to the jets is picking up a lot of steam and is being talked about everywhere as quite serious. Revis and aso on the same team would be unfair.

Carson Palmer has retired, the bengals owner is refusing to trade him

Skins now have 14 wide receivers on the roster, only 3 corners.

Titans sign Matt Hasselbeck  8)  Titans also inquiring about Ray Edwards, I doubt this happens but I would literally go crazy with happiness if so

Sidney Rice to the Seahawks (I bet Braylon Edwards lands in Minnesota)

If Jets pick up Aso, I will shit my pants.

I'm really disappointed jets aren't bringing Edwards back. Or so it looks anyway. He really wants to be here and has said he'd take below market value. He proved himself last year with great play. And his blocking is amazing

He tweeted that he wants to be with the jets but he feels they don't feel the same. But then he deleted the tweet. So who knows.

I think jets are putting everything into signing aso and everyone else is on the backburner. But it seems like the good atmosphere of players wanting to stay with the team is paying off as all the unrestricted jets role players are waiting for them.

I'm curious where brad smith goes. Jets are losing him without a doubt. The guys a huge weapon though

Titans need to pay Chris Johnson. He deserves the money. If hasselback goes into the season making seven times more money that's fucked up lol. But good signing for titans. I'm liking what thier doing.

They will definitely pay CJ. They'd be retarded not too. CJ needs to be making about 10-12 mil a year.

If not signing Braylon means we get Aso, I'm straight.

Haynesworth to the Pats...great move; but not for me.

If Titans cut Young (happening at 3PM this afternoon), Hppe & Gage (2 cuts that should happen), that gives us nearly 30 mil in cap space.

Sign Mebane at DT, Dave Ball at DE (or Ray Edwards), a solid MLB, SS (Michael Huff), OL & WR.

Chiefs picked up Steve Breaston from the Cardinals.  This is a good move because...

-Last year the weakest position on the team was at wide reciever.  The Chiefs had one solid reciever in Dwayne Bowe, then after that they shuffled many players in and out as the #2 reciever, such as Chris Chambers and Terrance Copper, and things got so bad that they ended up picking up Kevin Curtis off the street to be their #2 reciever in the playoffs against Baltimore.

-Now the receiver position is a huge strength for the Chiefs.  With Pro Bowler Dwayne Bowe, first round draft pick Jonathon Baldwin, and Steve Breaston most likely in the slot.

-Steve Brestons biggest year was 2008 when he had 100+ catches and 1,000+ yards receiving.  His offensive coordinator then was Todd Haley, who is now the head coach of the Chiefs.

-Breaston's numbers may not have been spectacular last year, but that was because Arizona had no QB.  They went from Matt Lienert to Max Hull and so on, and never found a decent QB

^ That's a good move

Chiefs got pretty explosive at WR via draft/free agency.

There WR corps was ugly last year

yeah, but now they are dangerous.  Because remember Haley was a wide receiver coach for most of his career, it is the position he knows best.  Larry Fitzgerald credits Haley for making him great.  So now he's got the talent and he knows how to turn that talent into results

Kurt Warner really helped Haley look better than he was. Haley couldn't get anything out of Leinart, and I don't think Cassel has the presence of Warner, or the talent around him. Bowe and Breaston are not Fitzsz and Bolden. Lucky for theChiefs that the AFC West is as wide open as it gets.

Haynes makesd no sense to me. He can't play NT, and the Pats don't need one anyway, and he can't play DE; so what is the point of him. They'll stop the run grreat, and Blitz great but their pass rush will be horrible unless they always blitz and then teams with wiley QBs will eat them alive.
