What style are you looking for exactly ??

I'm a huge fan of smooth/mellow type songs with a good melody and a typical 90's beat but I hate when it gets too soapy. that's why I don't really like artists like Boyz II Men (except their first album but it was new jack swing) or Brian Mc Knight.

some of my favorite songs (i'm sure you know most of them) :

Aaron Hall - Don't Be Afraid
H-Town & Shirley Murdock - Thin Line Between Love & Hate
Sweet Sable - Old Time's Sake
Menagerie - I Love You
LeVert - Good Old Days
Alfonzo Hunter - Just The Way (Playas Play) (feat. Erick Sermon)
Danny Boy feat. Ginuwine - Slip & Slide
Keith Sweat - Get Up On It (and dozen others actually)
R. Kelly - Sex Me Part. II (actually most songs from Born Into the 90's & 12 Play)
Lynden David Hall - Sexy Cinderella (British artist (RIP), lyrics kinda corny (like most of the time in rnb lol let's face it) but I love the production)
Guy - Dancin'
Zhané - Hey Mr. DJ
LSG - My Body
Art N Soul - Ridin' (Sam Bostic's group)
Eric Benet - True To Myself (the whole album)
Montell Jordan - Somethin 4 Da Honeyz (and his first album altogether)

I also love gangsta rnb, even if it's corny nowadays, the music is still good :

Emgee - Do Now (from D-Shot's Bass Ballin' compilation)
A.M.W. - Oakland Niggaz Ride
D.R.S. - Skoundrels Get Lonely Too (album version)
Y?N-Vee - 4 Play (the music you can hear in the background of Dove Shack's first interlude on their This Is The Shack album)
TQ - They Never Saw Me Coming (the song and the whole album)
Sons Of Funk - Pushin Inside You (the whole album The Game of Funk is pretty good)
South Sentr'elle - Baby Come Home (from LBC Crew's album)

I also love Nu Soul so if you don't know the following songs you should check them and if you like them check the albums

D'Angelo - Lady (from Brown Sugar(1996))
Erykah Badu - Next Lifetime (from Baduizm (1997))
Maxwell - Till the Cops Come Knockin' (from Urban Hang Suite (1996))
Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998)

spot on petey, i wanted to include the early Guy stuff but the first album was released in 88 and the second is not as good, although Do Me Right, Tease Me Tonight and Let's Chill are among my favorite.

Mint Condition is the shit too. I liked Booti Call and U Blow My Mind a lot from Blackstreet's first album. Bobby Brown's Don't Be Cruel is a classic, Bobby has classic cuts too like Get Away, Two Can Make That Dance, Humpin' Around.

Johnny Gill's 1990 album is a classic to me too. Favorite songs : Lady Dujour, Fairweather Friend, Rub Me the Right Way. Let's Get The Mood Right is not as good but I love the song with Roger "Your Body" and the other single "Love in an Elevator"

I also love the Rude Boys, their 92 album "Rude House" is very good. with good songs like "Tell Me What You Like". I believe it was produced by Gerald Levert. One of the members, J. Little put out an album in 1996, very good as well with classic cuts like "Puttin It Down" or "Me and U".

As far as westcoast RNB, I loved Troop's 1994 album and Po Broke N Lonely's 2 albums. On Po Broke N Lonely's 1992 album I esp. liked "No Money No Honeys" and "Your Eyes". On their 1995 album, i'd say every song is very good (some produced by Battlecat), the best are Three Honeys, Hideaway, Intensify Your Love.

I always liked Devante Swing's production style. It was sort of a precursor to the RnB tracks Timbaland used to make (which makes me recommend Aaliyah's album 'One In A Million' on this thread too).

That whole Swing Mob thing with Jodeci, Playa, Sista etc was mostly decent. Had a small bit of g-funk in there too.

I miss the 90's.

You can't go wrong with Bobby Brown, Aaliyah, Ginuwine, En Vogue, Tony Toni Tone, Jodeci, R. Kelly, Mary J. Blige, BlackStreet, Boyz II Men, etc.

Erykah Badu - Next Lifetime (from Baduizm (1997))
Maxwell - Till the Cops Come Knockin' (from Urban Hang Suite (1996))
Lauryn Hill - The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998)

Good list, and Maxwell >>> 8)

Just to throw some more names/albums in:

Anthony Hamilton, his first album is from 1996
And Angie Stone. She's criminally underrated.

Dru Hill - Dru Hill
Case - Case
Donell Jones - My Heart
Kenny Lattimore

There are tons more that have that 90's R&B sound. I used to have a folder on an old computer filled with over 400 tracks - Not BoysIIMen, and Montel Jordan etc. but lesser unknown artists/songs, it gives an indication of just how much is really out there, and what you have to select from
