I kind of wondered this, because I was always taught this was a foul growing up.  I know Jordan did it some, but now it is the status quo.  Every player, especially the star players like Lebron are allowed to use their off hand to just push people off of them to free themselves up for a shot and this is never called.

The other one I don't get is that as long as Lebron is back in he is allowed to use full force to go backwards into the defender all the way to the goal.  This also was taught to be a foul growing up but is not called now in the NBA.   If a player was going forward, face first it would definitely be called, but now it's like as long as the back is turned, he can back in as hard as he wants and it's not a foul?

...has anybody else noticed this, and am I right that these are indeed fouls that are just not called anymore in the NBA?

I think these unofficial rules stayed with Jordan as they never called offensive fouls inn him ever. From there as stars became bigger and more physical, it became more obvious. Starting with Shaq and especially with LeBron, stars just never got fouls called on them. Shaq didn't push off though, but other physical stars did, and they got away with it too.

Yeah... I did think Shaq sometimes backed straight in just running over guys and sometimes he would get away with it... but compared to what I see guys like Lebron doing now I would say Shaq was playing within the rules.

...According to the rules, a charge is when the defensive player is in a set position, the defensive player has a right to that position and the offensive player can not just go into him and move him backwards—however the way it is called now as long as the offensive player has his back turned its as if he has free license to back in as hard as he wants whenever he wants and just run over a defensive man in a set position.

only Lebron is allowed because he is the leagues golden child. it's even a foul on the opposing team half the time.

I agree that in today's game, it's worse than it's ever been, and with LeBron it's worse than I've ever seen a star get special treatment. Second only to Jordan, LeBron might be the most favored by the refs player I'd ever seen play. I still don't ever remember an offensive foul being called on Michael Jordan. But at least in Jordan's days, it went both ways and Jordan didn't flop when someone pushed off him.

Now that I think about it, LeBron would have flopped on this play and got the push off called. I think I change my mind. It could be LeBron is the most favored player in NBA history. I never thought I'd see a player more favored than MJ, but I think we may have it.

^Do you actually watch the playoffs? LeBron gets his share of offensive fouls and rarely gets to the line without being severly hacked. Difference is also that LeBron is much stronger than Jordan or Kobe. So if you hack them, they fall to the ground. If you hack LeBron, he might miss the lay-up, but he stays firmly in the air. With that said superstars always get special treatment. You couldn't breathe on D-Wade in the 2006 Finals without sending him to the line. Shaq got extra FTs in the 2006 Finals if he missed. You couldn't stand near Durant if he shot a jumper and missed during his emergence as a top tier superstar.

And I won't waste my time fitting in
Cause I don't think contrast is a sin
No, it's not a sin

Okay, never getting called is a bit of a stretch. But getting called to the level he's suppose to, no, he doesn't get called for offensive fouls like he should. Not even close.

^I'm talking about the 2015 playoffs, during which he in fact does not get the ref treatment he is used to. You know damn well a lot of calls COULD have been made in his favor, and had been in the past. For some reason they don't blow the whistle right now. And if someone plays in over a 1000 NBA games and is scrutinized the way LeBron simply is, it is only normal that such gifs exist.

find me gifs of kobe flopping like a little bitchboy ala lebron........lebron reacts to contact like a homosexual male, and u know it.

as for these playoffs, lebron's been getting calls in his favor left and right....there has been so many times where he dips in with his elbow and the foul was whistled on the defender as opposed to the correct offensive foul bein called, or times where iguodala clearly stripped him clean and was still whistled for a foul....or a pivotal play in game 3 where he flat out tackled stephen curry and didnt get blown for the whistle. lebron has gotten the benefit of the whistle more than james harden in these playoffs.

This nigga's tryna talk about getting calls....

CAN YOU IMAGINE what would be written on this forum if LeBron was awarded a ring, while playing second fiddle to a superior player, WHILE this happened...

it's already been proven that the series was reffed to go to 7 games, not for the lakers to win...game 5 was reffed in sacramentos favor. game 6 was reffed in LA's favor. and game 7 was reffed evenly. lebron LOST as a second fiddle (see 2011)
