Yeah it matters if you care about the history of rap and the culture.  The Rise of the 5% led to the rise of the rapper, because the 5%'s used to stand on stoops in the hood and preach to passerby's and they always had the flyest language and deepest insight; as a result of battlin and having to "show and prove" to elders and other 5 percenters.  They had to study the sciences of astronomy and numerology, and all that is incorporated into the rhymes and it was not only the rapper but a movement.  Gangs of 5%'s littered the streets of New York in those days, and so you had to be swift with the tongue and swift with the sword, and the tongue is a sword... and word is bond, and word life and all this time of slang about the rhyme was coined by the 5%
