gota be honest, i been in music making mode this past year so i’ve been creating much more than i’ve been consuming. tbh i don’t even think i listened to 10 albums from 2021 in their entirety.

nas kings - disease 2
tech n9ne - asin9ne
dom kennedy - from the westside with love 3
mozzy - untreated trauma
snoop dogg - algorithm
terrace martin - drones

are the only 2021 albums i can remember listening to in entirety off the top of my head

much different from the previous 2 years where i was consuming like a mad man

I'm the same as Scitt in that I don't think I have listened to 10 albums released this year. Certainly not 10 hip-hop anyway.

In no order

Yebba - Dawn

Possibly my most played and favourite. Outstanding album.

Laura Mvula - Pink Noise

A departure from her usual sound but an absolutely great mix of genres.

Arab Strap - As Days Get Dark

Caught one of their songs on the radio and was hooked. Album got a lot of play as well.

Katy B - Peace & Offerings

This one was a welcome release as it had been a while since she had released anything. Still will never top her 2011 debut though. Still play that regularly.

Nas - KDII

Don't need to link to that as I'm sure most are familiar with it. Never been much of a Nas fan but this and the first KD made me want to listen to him more than I usually would.

Pete & Bas - Quick Little Mixtape

London pensioners rapping. What's not to love?

Also mentions to William Shatner's latest, Styles P & Havoc, R&R=Now & of course Dr Dre's GTA music.

Seems like all the albums I bumped heavily this year came out last year... Thundercat, Kali Uchis, Too Short/E-40, Tame Impala

So Im left with

Snoop - From tha Streets 2 tha Suites
Snoop - Algorithm
Terrace Martin - Drones
An Evening With Silk Sonic

But if I had to pick my favorite (and use a cheat code) my album of the year would be:

Outkast - ATLiens 25th Anniversary Deluxe Edition

I see some people are posting other genres besides rap/hip-hop, which nowadays I like metal/rock better than rap, but I'm gonna keep my list strictly rap/hip-hop for this forum:

1. Jay Worthy, TF & Budgie "The Ballad Of A Dopehead"
2. Snoop Dogg "From Tha Streets 2 Tha Suites"
3. G Perico "Welcome To The Land"
4. Evidence "Unlearning Vol. 1"
5. Lil Grifo "All Blue Everything"
6. G Perico "LA Summers"
7. HRSMN "The Last Ride"
8. G Perico "Play 2 Win"
9. Jay Worthy "Two4Two"
10. Yelawolf & DJ Paul "Slumafia"
* If I put all the single songs Dezzy Hollow put out for 2021, I would put it on this list, but that isn't an album.

U can tell I like Jay Worthy and G Percos music, lol! :)
I'm surprised there is no love for Evidences album so far on here. :(

I’ve been listening to hip hop for a solid 30 years, and have certainly at times felt less connected to it over the last decade or so.  Having said that, I thought 2021 was a GREAT year for rap, mainly from some veterans(but I also started to dig some newer stuff as well.

Here’s my list in no order

Nas- KD2.   Cohesive album, you can let it ride from front to back. A few bangers, some boom bap, and some soulful shit.  What west coast head wouldn’t love the Johnny J inspired production on Death Row East?  Another standout for me was Rare.

Gift of Gab- Finding Jnspiration Somehow.   Amazing that such an optimistic and uplifting album was made by a guy with failing health and was soon to die.  Gift of Gab was such a thoughtful MC, and this is best highlighted on You Gon Make it in the End.  Other standouts for me are Weekend in Venice and Breathe In, even though neither is really a true hip hop song.

Kanye- Donda.  I wanted to hate, and haven’t liked much of his stuff since MBDTF, but the highs on this album are incredible.   Heaven and Hell, Off the Grid (Fivio Foreign destroys this track) and Jesus Lord are all incredible songs…Kanye sounds the best he has in years on Jesus Lord, and Jay Electronica is amazing as well.  The Lox finish off the 10 minute song. Another highlight is Life of the Party with Andre 3K.  Donda is bloated but any Kanye fan can easily make a good/great 10 track album from this.

Rod Wave- Soulfly.  I’m not a huge fan of the sad/emo rap, and Rod Wave doesn’t really rap but more so sings, but I really like most of this album.  He’s a great songwriter and could be a huge Popstar if he leaned into it.

Arrested Development- For the Fkn Love.  Speech doing his best Last Emperor impression on here, and the production is classic without sounding at all dated.

The Grouch and Eligh- What Would Love Do.  Highlights include Dreams and Love Feels.

Big Boi- Big Sleeover.  Big Boi can still FLOW and the production from one half of Organized Noise is on point.

Lil Baby and Durk- Voice of the Heroes.  Hats Off is my go to on this album.  Admittedly much of the album sounds similar but it’s easy to just let it ride.

Caleborate- Light My Skin. Contact my fav song on here.

Evidence- unlearning Vol1.  Lost in Time (park jams) is a highlight.

Skyzoo- All the Brilliant Things.  His best in awhile, maybe ever.
