Agreed- It Takes a Thief is a classic album IMO. And to answer the original question, Regulate is an incredible album, only surpassed by three DR albums
yeah exactly, MTV Beach House and Coolio's video at the beach with person after person coming out of the trunk to join the party is very vivid in my mind. I even remember them interviewing him on the beach and they asked him if he knew Snoop, lol, and he drew in the sand something like "yeah, LBC is there" and then a line "and my hood was over there". Snoop was #1 still in 94 even without having an album out he was still regarded as the #1 guy in rap. Then; you are right, it was pretty remarkable that Coolio actually blew up even bigger the next summer. And again, it was with a monster single "Gangstaz Paradise". Huge crossover hit, white people in the suburbs are still singing it at Kaoroke parties at weddings.
It's right on par with the golden era Death Row albums
This thread got a little derailed, but it would be interesting to start a new thread and try to objectively discuss who had the bigger impact, Coolio or Warren G. Both debut albums released the same time, both had same career trajectory where after 3 or 4 albums, they started trailing off.I'm a huge death row fan, so i am somewhat biased to Warren, but honestly, one could easily make a case for Coolio being the overall bigger of the two. I'd say he probably had more mainstream hits than Warren.
yeah I agree its right thereabout the only thing you could say is the guest spots are nowhere close to being as good as any of the DR albumsbut at the same token it feels 100 percent like a Warren G album where the DR albums feel more of a group effort
