Where does rap go from here
« on: October 09, 2003, 12:21:40 PM »
most people will agree that rap music is in its worst state ever.  we havnt seen a tru classic album since dre's 2001.  the music keeps on gettin more generic.  everything sounds the same.  where does rap go from here.  the music is gettin worse but the hip hop culture is gettin more accepted everyday.  it is gettin more mainstream everyday.  where does it go from here.  I think the music will just keep gettin worse an more watered down.  sales will start to flop b/c the teeny boppers will eventually move on to something new.  an i think tru hip hop heads will move on.  a lot of us are gettin older.  where get sick of the current state an just move on to another genre of music.  an the rest of us r goin say fuck it an just listen to old school stuff an ignore the new stuff coming out.  the hip hop culture will never go away b/c it is so mainstream now.  an so accepted everywhere it wont go away.  The music will never go away either but its goin get real ugly b4 its gets any better.  there will eventually be another renisance in rap like there was in 87-89 an 93-96 but i dont see that happening untill about 2007-2008

I haven't bought one album this year and only two last year. Current hip hop is trash. You on point.

I've started to branch out myself lately, Ive been listening to some punk rock and some old pearl jam, nirvana an shit like that.

Hiphop is getting stale right about now. I mean theres still dope shit that comes out every now and then, but for the most part, Im rarely looking forward to the "new-shit"...

Hopefully WSC, 213, Eastsidaz and Dre will "freshen" this up for me.

I'm feelin' you! I can't believe that we'll have to wait for Dre's next album to speak about a classic one more time. There are so many underground-artists, they would blow all away - but most of the listeners don't even recognize that there can be dope artists, without callin' themselves "Murderer" or "Number 1" ::)

But you was wrong when you said that there wasn't a classic since Dre's "2001". Just listen to Canibus' "Rip The Jacker", in my opinion it's a classic :P

Where does rap go from here?

Into pop. It's a matter of time before we get a rapping boy- or girlband.

I see many real and great posts here ! And I agree with yall . I have only bought one album in two years now,and thats outkast .
Hip hop nowadays is shit , all the feeling that once was in the music has now been taken over by the mighty dollar.Rappers nowadays dont even rap for the love of the music , but for the love of the dough

LOL.. man, hip-hop has never stayed the same. We are in the Southern era. It's all good to me, 'cause hip-hop is mainly a black culture, and black's mainly live in the South. It's a good way to counter the sales and attention that Eminem gets, and a way to have urban culture go back to the south than as oppose to being just a coastal thing. It's all good, relax, and dance a bit... lol. Besides, it's rear we get a Rakim, 2Pac, Nas, because during there eras there still was Vanilla Ice, M.C. Hammer, Tag Team, Nelly and other commercial rappers to out sell them.

i somewhat agree, but, this year there has been really good albums like
jedi mind tricks- visions of ghandi
canibus - rip the jacker
gangstarr - the owners
Last emperor - myth, magic, music
and probably more
i do think hip hop will be geting more comercial as the years pass, but artist will still be droping good albums, its not that bad a year for hip hop, no stand out classics, but im still waiting for new nas, jay z, and RAKIM!!!
