Arsenal Football Club: Double Champions 2001/2002
« on: May 08, 2002, 10:08:05 PM »
As y'all know, Arsenal won The Double in England (Premiership & FA Cup) by defeating Manchester United at their home ground yesterday... a tremendous acheivement which will go down in football history... Arsenal dominated the game from start to finish and didn't allow Man United a single shot on goal... The Gunners' decider came in the 57th minute when Sylvian Wiltord slotted home a Barthez rebound from a Ljungberg shot inside the box... here is my player ratings:

Seaman - Safe as Arsenal's last man... never got put on a test by the Man. United players.  9/10

A. Cole - Awesome as ever at left back... you can see this young man's talent, he's gonna flourish in the World Cup as England's regular left back.. perfect tackles, strong physique, very fast paced... he's got everything.  9/10

Campbell - Showed everybody why he is one of the world's greatest defenders... he was like a road block in Man. United's path... denying them a chance at every attack. Flawless game. 10/10

Keown - Great performance by him as well... a sturdy, secure centre-half, as ever. 8/10

Lauren - Excellent game... inspired offensive runs as well as controlling the right back position... he was simply unbeatable yesteday. 9/10

Ljungberg - Another awesome performance by Freddie... worked his ass off for 90 minutes and was rewarded... he was the sole architect of Wiltord's 57th minute strike, he is now officially a legend... and commited to Arsenal. 10/10

Vieira - He controlled the midfield... won every tackle, won every air battle, won everything... what an majestic player... the world's greatest. 10/10

Edu - Surpisingly good at centre midfield... against such opposition he did a stunning job at the middle of the pitch, very creative, found openings everywhere... an enourmous talent who will hopefully stay at the club. 9/10

Parlour - Like a unstoppable working machine tarnishing Manchester United... he never gave up, always commited and willing to attack as well as help out in defense... superlatives can't describe his performance yesterday. 10/10

Kanu - Good game... showed some brief moments of brilliance, but failed to put a big input on the game... he was good at keeping possesion and distributing the ball...he also hit some good long shots which might as well have hit the net... 7/10

Wiltord - Actually I think he was our worst player... he set off on desperate runs going nowhere, couldn't manage to get past the United defenders... but at least he converted the easy chance presented by Barthez. 7/10

So there it is, Arsenal's third ever The Double... reminiscent of the 1997/98 season, when Arsenal also beat Man. United at Old Trafford and went on to Double glory... this team has been astonishing all season and truly deserved it, especially after all those bitter defeats at last hurdle in earlier seasons which denied us silverware... now, domination is ours.

And to Jay ay Beee:  I told you! ;)

Peace

That is true ExZit... now look at the majestic, proud Patrick Vieira... he  controlled the game, kissed the Arsenal badge several times during the match... he is a true hero, a football legend, the greatest... and best of all, he's gonna stay representing Arsenal, forever.

Well Done Arsenal

Big up Jay, big up to Man Utd's players aswell, they took the defeat like world class atheletes and shook our players hands, mutual respect there.

Sadly I think Vieira is leaving, but he's done everything there is too do in England, he wants too further himself and move to Real, he's been a great player for us, so i cant hold it against him, i wish him luck. let's see if Van Bommel can live up to his reputation when we sign him.

Finally, COME ON ARSENAL!!! what a performance, our defence were sublime, Ashley Cole made a step up last night, our midfield were superb aswell, Vieira was imense, Ray and Freddie were brilliant again, and Sylvian Wiltord, him and Lauren are our unsung heroes, two brilliant performances, im proud of Arsenal, i aint been this proud since Anfield '89. Highbury Saturday and down the town hall Sunday for the parade, cant wait.

GGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well we'll see

Good season, I enjoyed it, you can't win everything all of the time

Well done to Arsenal cause they're the best team in England lets hope they don't embarass England in the CL next season

I'm glad it went to Arsenal, cause like United they play good attacking football.  It would have been a disaster if Liverpool won

YESSSS!!! what a night. The atmosphere was brilliant, the team was trememdous and we are now the champs.
We outplayed man u on thier own pitch.
Be prepared for many more years of Arsenal dominance.
on the evidence of man u's performance they were basically SHIT and played like DIRTY BASTARDS
just gettin over the hangover now!
(on a smaller note the game was spoiled by violence outside the ground, but sadly it is starting to become expected again)
