How do you recruit gang members in GTA San An dreas

i earned enough respect to have a 5 man gang so far, but i dont know how to recruit members. it says to just hit up an OG member in green and hit them up on the d pad. but ive treid and it hasnt work. what exactly am i supposed to do? how do i determine if a gang member is an OG or just a BG. im correct when the d pad means the control pad right? but yeah get back at me.

you have to hold aim (like when you shoot someone or sneak up on them when you got a knife) then push up  to ANYONE in green


what i want to know is how you take over territories and shit.....it says i have 11 but i have no idea how i did that

taking over territories , like you'll get a cell phone call from someone , telling u to go stock up at ammunation and go take over territory, i just took over a bunch of balla territory. its not that hard because they put up a bunch of life upgrades and body armor around the streets. but theres a lot of territory to take over and hella gang mebers to shoot up. you definitely need body armor when taking over hoods. i think the 11 is what u start out with, thats what i had too.

^^haha.. nope.. you have still got a ways to go.. when your following the train though, dont drive right next to it, be a bit farther on the side from it so that big smoke can shoot them..
