If you go back to the 40s I think you'll notice a lot less gun violence and killings than there are today, just to let you know.

Anyway, I'm not holding 50 Cent responsible, but gangster rap is a factor, no matter how small. This is different than Anrie playing a robot and killing machines. Kids like Spiderman but they don't try and web sling. Why? Because they know it's fantasy, or at least they know it's beyond their capabilities. Spidey's a super hero with super powers, 50 is a real man who does real things as far as the kids are concerned. They see a guy like him as a role model and they copy him, and others like him. Before it was 50 it was DMX, before X it was Pac, and before Pac it was Snoop and the rest of Deathrow. Before the gangsta rap phase it wasn't as bad. I was around in the late 80s it wasn't as bad, as far as numbers are concerned. Rap was a lot cleaner then, and rappers were saints compared to today. Of course you still had gangs and gangsters, but gun violence was way down, and the number of kids affected was down too. It's not like guns were harder to get back then, and cocaine was all over the place, but not in the hands of kids. Movies were more violent, and so were cartoons. But the real life role models were nothing like their on screen counter parts. The only difference I see is that gangster rap is common place and little kids want to be like those guys. Parents were just as neglegent in the 80s as they are now. So what do you think is difference.

How long were you around in the 80s? Life in the ghetto was real rough then. Until the mid 90s, most of the populace was in the lower percentile middle class. Then the boom hit, and everyone got materialistic. I don't think living can get as bad as it was in the 80s, but I do agree with you that things are starting to get bad again. It's the whole fact that folks want what they don't have whether they have money or not, and after seeing all these commericals on 500 different channels, some people will do anything to get the things they have always wanted.

Where I really disagree with you is about the parents role today and their role back in the 80s. Now, all the parents do is bitch about what the schools should be doing to improve their children, or how fast food places are at fault for getting their kid fat, or blaming the music industry because little Jonny started selling crack. There is a reason why parents are considered "guardians" until the kids turn 18. Too many parents are more concerned about furthering their career than about their own child. If someone is picking on your kid, teach them to defend themselves. If your kids are getting fat, stop sending them to McDonald's because you are too lazy to cook dinner. If you suspect your kid is dealing drugs, they live in your house and you are legally held responsible for your child until they are 18 so you better go and deal with that shit. My parents hit their high school years around the late 60s/early 70s when all that hippie music was floating around talking about expanding your mind and free love and I think they did a good job. I think parents are just intimidated by their own kids.
