news Inglewood's HomeTeam Is Taking The "First Swing" - February 28, 2006 By : Nima

Lockz and Ludeboi both born in Inglewood, look to represent their city to the fullest. While Lude was raised in Inglewood, his counterpart Lockz was raised in what is known as the "outskirts" of Inglewood, on the Inglewood/Los Angeles border line.

Though the two are definitely different in styles there is one thing that remains identical; their love for music. That love for music overcame the clashes of personality that once divided them in high school. But from writing never recorded songs to hallway freestyle battles, they always sought to advance to the next step of making music.

Throughout those battles the two were rarely seen apart, and although they were different their styles seemed to mesh well. And after long contemplation the two decided to "join forces" and make music as a group. The two formed The HomeTeam.

They just wrapped up their debut mixtape "First Swing", and are actually having a release party for the mixtape March 5th @ The Joint in L.A. along with Glasses Malone's artist Conflict, who's celebrating the release of his "2nd Wind" mixtape. To check out the flyer for the release party, click here. Invited guests include Bishop Lamont, Glasses Malone, DJ Warrior and many more.

I have two tracks from the "First Swing" mixtape for ya'll to check out. The first one is the title track, "First Swing", featuring Quiz, who is no stranger to dubcnn visitors. Quiz just let me know yesterday that he is now signed under G. Malone's Blu Division/Sony imprint. Check out the track below:

The HomeTeam - First Swing (ft. Quiz)

The second track features Vino and has a reggae feel to it. It's called "Welcome 2 Cali", and Lockz and Lude demonstrate their chemistry once again. Grab it below:

The HomeTeam - Welcome To Cali (ft. Vino)

Enjoy the music, and hit up the forum to leave feedbacj! Make sure to hit up the release party if you get a chance!

news Throwback Joint: Dr. Stank & Dirty Birdy "Diznuzit" - February 27, 2006 By : Lil Jay

A brand new edition of the Dubcnn Throwback Joint is up and running! Not only do we cover certified classics for the throwback ride, but also unreleased tracks that never hit the public. One of those songs from the latter category was handpicked for this week's edition. We got two of the biggest talents on the West Coast teaming up and repping the I.E. as usual: Dr. Stank, who received his first coverage in the internet world on Westcoast2k.net back in 2002, along with partner in crime Dirty Birdy.

They recorded a bangin' ass song together a few years ago called "Diznuzit", a track which was supposed to be featured on Stank's solo album "The Odor" on MCA Records. Since the album never saw the light of day, the track remained unreleased. And this song is just too tight to keep it in the archive, so we decided to leak this exclusive for everybody to hear. The cut was produced by Dr. Stank himself, and Dirty Birdy sings on the hook. Download the MP3 below and hit up our forums with some feedback!

Dr. Stank & Dirty Birdy - Diznuzit

In related news, Dr. Stank has just finished his highly anticipated street project "The Odor" which will be released next week. The album consists of 22 bangers from Dr. Stank's various stages in his career. But stick around for a minute or two to get the full scoop on that!

news Drop It Like It's Hot - G-Funk Style! - February 27, 2006 By : Nima

The number 1 hit "Drop It Like It's Hot" was the return of Snoop Dogg to the top of the charts, and alot of the original fans felt like Snoop left them for a wider, mainstream audience. But did ya'll ever wonder how "Drop It Like It's Hot" would've sounded over a beat straight out of the G-Funk Era?

Well, the good folks at Large Money Entertainment took that upon themselves, and 6-10 from L.M.E. produced a brand new beat for the track. The result was so 'hot', I had to 'drop' it for ya'll! Here it go, Drop It Like It's Hot, G-Funk style:

news The Junkyard Has Some "Random Thoughts" - February 27, 2006 By : Rud

M Dogg is back with the latest edition of his world famous "The Junkyard" editorial feature. In Volume Three he apologises for the extra wait for this installment however for more than good reason. My thoughts and prayers go out to M Dogg, his uncle and family at this time and i am sure the dubcnn readership shares in my comments. M Dogg has however taken some time to compile a catalogue of "Random Thoughts" regarding the westcoast. He touches on topics including E-40 and the "Hyphy" phenomenon, Ice Cube and his independent route, The Game, Warren G, Ras Kass, Xzibit, Spider Loc and Bishop Lamont and his ticket to superstardom as well as a much more!

Once you have read the piece head over to the forum to debate any issues you may have and if you wish to leave your regards for M Dogg.

news Frontline Are Back And Want U To "Take That" [Audio] - February 26, 2006 By : Nima

The New Bay is filled with fresh talent, but these two cats really stand out to me. Locksmith & Left, known together as The Frontline, have been on their grind for a couple years now, solidifying their name in the Bay. Backed by veteran producers E-A Ski & CMT, Frontline are guaranteed to have crazy production.

After several mixtapes, they dropped their debut "Who R U?", followed by their nationwide release "Now U Know" last year, which was very slept on. They're currently working on their third effort, and the first single was recently premiered on the radio. You already know I had to bring ya'll the exclusive!

The track is called "Take That", and was produced by E-A Ski and CMT. Staying true to their formula, Frontline once again deliver a very original track, different from most of the stuff that's out right now. I'll let you be the judge, download "Take That" below:

The Frontline - Take That (Prod. by E-A Ski & CMT)

Shouts go out to Brooks Williams, and of course Frontline. Keep it locked right here for more on Frontline, E-A Ski and CMT.

news Too $hort "Blows The Whistle" & Hooks Up With Kelis - February 25, 2006 By : Nima

You know he can't stay away! The legendary Too $hort is back with album number 16! The Oakland rapper has putting it down for the longest, but he's not tired yet. He's currently putting the finishing touches on his latest effort "Up All Night", dropping on Short Records/Jive Records in a few months.

He hooked up with Lil Jon for his first single "Blow The Whistle". Short Dogg spits some real game over this one, showing people why he's been around so long. Lil Jon provided a hard beat, he stayed silent on this one, no singing/yelling.

The clean version has been floating around, I have the full unedited version for ya'll to enjoy:

Too $hort - Blow The Whistle (Prod. by Lil Jon)

Short Dogg also hooked up with Kelis on her new single "Bossy", off her upcoming album "Kelis Was Here". Produced by Shondrae, this is another track with a Dirty South feel, all about being bossy. Check it out below:

news Sene - MC Hailing From Brooklyn, New York - February 24, 2006 By : JustinL

Dubcnn is known for breaking young and fresh talent, and this next artist is no exception. I would like to personally present an artist by the name of Sene, originally hailing from Brooklyn, this 20 year old New York native now finds California as his new home. Having personally witnessed his recordings, I honestly do not know anybody of such youth that can spit this well. Since moving to California, Sene has made countless appearances on the show "Breaking Atoms" on 91.9 KCSB. He has a very heavy local following, and has caught the ears of artists such as the Stones Throw camp, The Beatnuts and Prodigy (Mobb Deep).

Be on the lookout for Sene's new album "Brooklyn Bridges: Musickforthapeeple" to drop this April.

You can also check Sene out at Myspace.com/Musickforthapeeple

We would like to present four Sene tracks for you to listen to today:

Sene - Moovwitmi

"Young scholar with my thought cap on / hit pause on my track, cats like PUT THAT SONG BACK ON! / that's all I want / but I NEED it just like you / so I treat my 16's like new white shoes / So even if ya dont love it to death /ya still guna bump it least a couple times up in the deck"

"This was me trying to make things a little more soulful, the beat was real relaxing, you could sit back and drink to it, smoke to it, whatever your bag is. We threw scratches on it to mix it up a little because it felt right, a little bit more of the b-boy element had to get thrown into it, and the scratches sounded real smooth. They could always be better I mean, they are scratches and people like to get picky, but we were in a session recording and my boy JKim hopped on the turntables instead of my DJ at the time and cut it up, and I liked how it sounded so I kept it. Sometimes that spontaneous shit feels best."

Sene - Maintain

"I light the Peach Op(optimo) / live life till the complete stop / never scared of badges, we police the cops"

"People always generalize my music as having a New York sound, coming to Cali that's not always what you want. Don't get me wrong I love NY and its an honor to be thrown in a "NY sound" category, I'm Brooklyn til death no matter where I rest my head at, but you want people to listen no matter who you are without thinking 'ahh that's just repping New York'. On this track I said fuck it, you want to just label me as that and limit me to that, so that's what I'll give you."

Sene - Coastal Warning

"I'm walking around giving pounds toastin it up / feelin the cold hit my face while im rollin this up / dice game in full effect, all my people on deck /makin money cause they hungry and they getting no checks / uptowns on all the sneakers, Biggie on all the speakers / girls Northface zipped half exposin cleavage"

"This is the first time Sinuous and I linked up on a track with just the two of us, We go coast to coast comparing a day walking around in the 718 view to SB 805's view and different ways it goes down."

Sene - Man Up

"And I don't even care what you heard/but my squad is set hard from the yard to burbs/From the Bar to Curbs, Check my quotes/cause I freestyle better than ya write/check my throat....Yea I said curb to curb/half the squads in Northface/other half in flannel shirts"

"This song was pretty much spur of the moment, It was one of the more pop sounding beats and I figured what a better way to hit it than on some hype shit. I wanted it to be catchy but represent both elements of my life and surroundings, those being east and west living, so I made sure to make a few references about going side to side. Northface is associated with the cold weather, all my boys rock the Face bubbles in Brooklyn, and in Cali the crews and bangers rock flannels so I gotta show love to both."

Shouts to the original 6548 Cordoba - 35, 34, 31

news Mitchy Slick: "Urban Survival Syndrome" May 16th - February 23, 2006 By : Nima

San Diego's hope Mitchy Slick is finally ready to release his sophomore album. After the smash album "Triggeration Station", Mitchy had everybody fiending for more Wrong Kind music. He's also part of the Strong Arm Steady crew with Xzibit, Krondon & Phil Da Agony. Now, after settling for Angeles Records as his new home, Mitch is set to drop his highly anticipated "Urban Survival Syndrome" on May 16th 2006.

Check out the official press release below:

After releasing two huge albums in one day on October 25, 2005 – DJ Muggs vs. GZA/The Genius “Grandmasters” and Self Scientific “Change” – Angeles Records has announced the next big thing…Urban Survival Syndrome from MITCHY SLICK . Urban Survival Syndrome, or USS, will hit the streets on May 16th, 2006.

After building a name for himself on the local scene in San Diego, also known as the “Salty D,” with his independent label Wrong Kind Records and his smash independent album “Triggeration Station” Mitchy became a member of the Strong Arm Steady crew alongside Xzibit, Krondon and Phil the Agony. After working with DJ Khalil, and building a business friendship with DJ Muggs, Mitchy chose Angeles Records for the home of Urban Survival Syndrome. “My thing was that Muggs and them got a steady track record of keeping they businesses running. I peeped they style and how they get down it wasn’t like most of these labels that’s really a gang or ‘hood or family-oriented – Angeles just seemed like a regular record label to me. ‘Cause I’m about business, I’ve already done a lot of ‘hood shit, now it’s about business,” explains Mitchy.

DJ Muggs is equally excited about the working relationship with Mitchy and the upcoming album, “Mitch has a great work ethic, and he’s built himself a following already. I’ve been peeping him for a while – the way he moves is straight business and he understands the way the game works – on top of being the next big thing out of the west,” Muggs explains. “When I got him in the studio, he works like a vet. Ya’ll better recognize Mitchy Slick…the new West.”

The album’s title, Urban Survival Syndrome, is based on an actual disorder. After releasing Triggeration Station, Mitchy came up with the title for USS because Urban Survival Syndrome is a last option used in murder cases or urban-area cases. There was a cat named Damian Osby – he caught 2 murder beefs in Texas. He basically tried to use the fact that he didn’t have no other choice because of his environment and what he grew up having to endure. That was his defense plea in his case, just like post-trauma! tic stress disorder.”

Unlike many “gangsta rappers” and studio gangsters, Mitchy Slick is the product of the rough streets of San Diego – a place where youth are bred to become gang members. Mitchy himself was indoctrinated into gang life in the most unlikely of places – a youth football league. “Pop Warner was the hangout, and the Pop Warner colors were the color of my gang. That’s slick though, I’m 9 years old, I’m the quarterback, the linebacker is lookin’ at me crazy, and they got on the color that their gang wear – the red and black – and I got on the color my neighborhood wear – green – and at 9 years old, you expect me to make the right choice about gangbanging?”!

Mitchy Slick is a new breed of street MC, who hustles harder at the music business than he did in the streets. And with production from DJ Muggs, DJ Khalil, and Fredwreck; Urban Survival Syndrome is sure to rock the streets and the airwaves alike.

news Dirty Birdy Mixtape Release Party / Audio Preview - February 22, 2006 By : Lil Jay

There's some tight new music getting ready to hit the streets, and tonight's the night to celebrate it! Join the dirt diggler of the West Coast Dirty Birdy tonight at his mixtape release party for his highly anticipated new release "Dirty Birdy Mixtape Volume 2". Expect live performances from Dr. Stank and the Ignorant Crew, Lunch, Diamonique and the rest of the Homeless Nation, The PBG, and of course Dirty Birdy himself.

Tonight (February 22), 9pm at Incahoots, 3742 Park Sierra Dr., Riverside, CA 92501; Cost is $10.00. Click on the flyer for directions & more info.

As we previously reported, "Volume 2" is labeled a mixtape but it's actually a street album. Every song comes with hook and original beat, and most of the production was handled by Dirty Birdy & Dr. Stank. Birdy laced some serious heaters on this and rapidly developed his production skills. He even handled most of the production on his upcoming "Volume 3" mixtape (with some exceptions). A lot of the tracks on "Volume 2" give the mixtape a soulful feel as they're sample based for the most part, and therefore songs that couldn't be cleared for the album.

With Birdy being one of the many artists that was first showcased by us, we feel that he's definitely up there with the greats of the rap game. The overall diversity of the mixtape proves that Dirty Birdy is so much more than a rapper, he's an entertainer. With his ability to deliver sick flows packed with a lot of humor, this mixtape makes it stand out from most of the mixtapes that hit the streets. He's showing off his skills in a number of different styles, like on "Take My Life Away", where Birdy utilized the talents of Dr. Stank on a guest verse. Songs like "Where We From (Money Gone)" give the mixtape a sense of realism, where you have Birdy and Dr. Stank teaming up again to exchange I.E. street tales. And on "Gigante" Dirty Birdy took the meaning of diversity a step further, as he's spitting a couple bars in Spanish!

As always, Dubcnn has them exclusive tracks, so peep the shit below to get a taste of what you can expect on the mixtape. These are "Ain't My Fault" produced by Crackajack, "Take My Life Away" produced by Dirty Birdy where Dr. Stank joins Bird to rip up the track like only they know how. The last song is "Hip Hop" produced by Crackajack where Bird breaks down Hip Hop history and how it all started for him.

Dirty Birdy - Ain't My Fault (Produced By Crackajack)
Dirty Birdy - Take My Life Away Feat. Dr. Stank (Produced By Dirty Birdy)
Dirty Birdy - Hip Hop (Produced By Crackajack)

For a complete coverage on the mixtape including tracklisting, check out the Dubcnn preview page for "Dirty Birdy Mixtape Vol. 2". If you like what you hear make sure you pick up a copy of the mixtape. We will add the mixtape to the Dubcnn online store very soon, so check back for another update!

Shout out to Birdy. Tweet Twice!

news Ice Cube Asks If You Got Your Race Card - February 22, 2006 By : Lil Jay

Ice Cube has been making a strong comeback to the music business lately with a new single getting radio play, a new album in the works, a tour planned, and a couple other side projects cooking. If this wasn't enough, the brainiac also produced the upcoming Fox Networks series "Black.White.". The reality show, which premieres March 8th, is about one white and one black family who come together under one roof in Los Angeles as they prepare to go out in the world as the other race.

Ice Cube has also been secured to do the official theme song for the show, entitled "Race Card". And known for being a political rapper, Ice Cube was definitely the right person chosen.

"Don’t believe the hype, everything in the world ain’t black and white / everybody ain’t a stereotype / just because I look wrong I'm about to do right", Cube raps in the title song, which also includes his sharp rejection of an oft-cited phrase: "Did you get your race card? Yo, what the hell is a race card?"

In support of the documentary, Ice Cube also shot a video for the song. A lot of talk, lets see and hear the outcome, as Dubcnn has both the video and audio of "Race Card" below. Download it and hit the forum with some feedback!

Ice Cube - Race Card (MP3 Audio)
Ice Cube - Race Card (WMV Video)

In related news, the official Ice Cube website recently added the video for Ice Cube's song "Chrome & Paint" to the website. The song features WC and is Cube's street single off "Laugh Now, Cry Later", due out June 6th.

news Snoop Dogg Takes Doggystyle Down Under - February 22, 2006 By : Nima

I got some good news for all of our Australian visitors! After 8 years of absence, Snoop Dogg is ready to hit the road Down Under again. Here is the official press release:

After months of growing speculation, Paul Dainty and Dainty Consolidated Entertainment are thrilled to announce the upcoming Australian tour of hip-hop kingpin SNOOP DOGG, with pre-sold tickets via the Internet available February 21 and general tickets available February 23.

Having not stepped a foot (or paw, as the case may be) in the country for over eight years, rap’s self-appointed grand pimp Snoop Dogg is ready to return to our shores and wow hip-hop fans in all major cities with his signature West Coast flavour.

“The last Snoop Dogg tour was so memorable, and stood out from so many other shows, simply because of Snoop himself,” enthuses DJ Nino Brown, Australia’s premier urban DJ who supported Snoop during his first sell-out Australian tour in 1998. “Snoop is a complete artist and unlike no one else in hip-hop. It was his first Australian tour and every song he performed was a classic. There were no songs the crowd didn't know all the words to. His debut album Doggystyle was so huge here, and everyone wanted to see him perform all the tracks live. It was an awesome night, and I can't wait to see Snoop again!”

Born Calvin Broadus in California’s Long Beach City, Snoop has grown from a teenage member of the notorious Crip gang to a 90’s rap superstar to a global entertainment icon – and he’s still only in his early thirties. Due to his gang allegiance and ties with California hip-hop legend Dr. Dre, his 1993 album Doggystyle was the first debut album ever to enter the Billboard charts at number one. Singles such as “What’s My Name?” “Gin & Juice” and “Ain’t No Fun (If The Homies Can’t Have None)” came to define West Coast hip-hop in that era. Having now completed seven studio albums, with his most recent being 2004’s R&G: (Rhythm & Gangsta): The Masterpiece featuring the smash hit “Drop It Like It’s Hot”, Snoop has proven himself a rare survivor in the cut-throat rap game.

In addition to his music, Snoop Dogg is also the ultimate rap brand. The street-savvy entrepreneur gets his hustle on in every way imaginable, from his signature line of Pony Sneakers (“Doggy Biscuitz”), to namesake foot-long hot dogs (“Snoop Doggs”), to his MTV show Doggy Fizzle Televizzle, plus Doggystyle soft porn DVDs and frequent appearances in video games such as True Crime: Streets Of LA. His film career took off in 1998 with a small role in the indie flick Half Baked, and continues to flourish every year, with acclaimed roles in The Wash, Training Day, Starsky & Hutch, Soul Plane and Baby Boy to date.

Currently promoting Bigg Snoop Dogg Presents: Welcome To Tha Chuuch, an album he executive produced featuring artists from his Doggy Style Records plus guests, Snoop can also be seen in Boss’n Up, a film inspired by the music of his latest album, R&G. Boss’n Up is the story of Corde Christopher (played by Snoop), a dead-end grocery clerk who joins the fast life and becomes a pimp to realise his wildest dreams – with major consequences.

“Snoop is such a talented MC,” says uber-producer Pharrell Williams, who’s worked with Snoop on tracks like “Drop It Like It’s Hot” and “Let’s Get Blown”. “But he’s more than just an MC, because he knows what he wants to look like and he understands what his videos should be. He’s just a great, all-round entertainer.”

Get out your flyest pimp suits, run to the store for those custom-made alligator dress shoes, make sure your perm’s perfect and get ready to holler “pimp, pimp, hooray!” (Snoop’s own cheer) when the Doggfather rolls into your city – it will be a night of classic hip-hop you won’t want to miss.

news "2" Is Ready To Deliver "The Double Dose" - February 18, 2006 By : Rud

Now dubcnn is world renowned for opening eyes to new talent, some you take to, others you don't - thats life. Yet every now and again an individual or a collective grabs your attention and urges you to listen and take note. Over the years individuals such as Bishop Lamont, Glasses Malone and some others have requested that respect from their grind, talent and dogged determination to succeed. Two more that strike me are Bad Lucc and his Westurn Union collaborator Damani; both grinding, working hard to succeed in what is a
difficult industry.

The first of which, Bad Lucc, dropped what can only be described as a "Street Classic" track last year by the name of "City Life" which featured the vocal talents of Toussaint on the hook. The track outlined the struggle of inner city living and captured an essence not often portrayed well via music, yet they managed it and to acclaim from all corners of the globe. Now Bad Lucc is a big supporter of dubcnn and as such he promised he would let us hear more from Toussaint and as ever has come through for you the readers with information and music.

It's always a pleasure to unveil an artist who can portray the art of music in a way not often seen, in this case we are proud to exclusively reveal Toussaint soon to be better known in the industry as 2 a.k.a. The Double Dose. Now 2 (Toussaint Harris) has not just thrown himself into the arena overnight, he has been steadliy perfecting his craft over the years, testing his abilities in battles and freestyle sessions all over his native city of Inglewood, Ca. Thus far we have only heard the 21 year old showcasing his singing talent however he also posseses lyrical content and punchlines mixed with a crisp flow that ensures each verse strikes hard and sounds fresh. So put that in a mixing pot and what do you have? Lyrics, flow, punchlines and he can sing? Now that is a competent artist at a very young age and judging by what we have heard thus far a long career in the making. Speaking with 2 he tells us; "My style is what you call Hood Good. The flow is like cursive letters compared to manuscript."

Influenced by artists such as Marvin Gaye, R. Kelly, Nate Dogg, Nas and Tupac, 2 paints a picture with his music thats actually real and not overly flamboyant. Having been born in Los Angeles but raised in Inglewood, 2 began entertaining people with his singing at age 16 and then began perfecting rapping over the following year. Brought up with his talented brother LeMarvin, 2 quickly realised he had a talent to entertain and then decided to pursue it. Blowing away students and faculty alike at High School talent shows and sending competitive MC's back to their walkmans to think again during famous neighborhood ciphers ensured 2 created a buzz in the streets at a rapid pace and a belief enstiled that he is by far "The Popular Product."

He is currently recording songs with talented producers including Ricc Rude and THX, so you know 2 is ready to bring something new to the table, variety and skill.

As ever we have some audio for you to get your ears around; listen and please take some time to visit our forum to drop your thoughts. Both tracks are laced by T.H.X aka "Black Floyd" and feature 2's brother LeMarvin who is signed to the "Co-Stars."

2 - Have U Ever Seen (Feat. Scan, Bad Lucc & LeMarvin)
2 - We Done Made It (Feat. LeMarvin)

Thanks to Bad Lucc, 2 and LeMarvin; look for more news and audio from this collective on dubcnn very soon.

news MC Eiht Announces New Label Deal - February 16, 2006 By : Lil Jay

As we previously reported, MC Eiht is slated to release his new solo album "Affiliated" this spring. Eiht has just signed a distribution deal for his record label, West Music, Inc. in a joint venture with Paid In Full/Koch.

Eiht, who also played the role of Ryder in the mega-hit video game, "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas," says this record deal differs from his past independent signings. "The promotion will be better, the distribution is better," he confirms. "The label that I have the joint venture with this time is more professional than what was happening with my other independent projects. They don’t hesitate to get things done."

The album's first single will be the beautiful "Say Nothing/Comptons Back." produced by Raw Steel. In addition to the Compton rap legend, the song also features Comptons Most Wanted's Chill and Bam, along with King T, who rides shotgun. We exclusively premiered this song back in August, courtesy of King T, as it's also featured on King T's latest project "The Boss Up Mixtape".

The Dub-I.N.C.’s upcoming "Affiliated" title is a natural for Eiht, who explains, "I named it that because there are a lot of misconceptions in the street as far as West Coast music, namely, what we do as far as West Coast music, how we get down with it, and what we represent. A lot of my fans have been anticipating a new record from a true West Coast artist. I get a lot of emails asking me questions like, “When are you going to come back and spit the real, because there is all this fake-ism in the game out there right now." As Eiht points out, "You’ve got a lot of cats from everywhere out there, trying to do whatever, and a lot of it makes utterly no sense." Eiht remarks, “This album title lets people know I’m still affiliated with the streets, with the neighborhoods, and what people are going through out there on the streets; it’s not being about glamour and glitz."

Eiht contends, "As everyone has seen, I just have to remain true and humble, and after all that, things will fall into place." The upcoming album that has yet to be turned into the distributor, is already receiving a kilo of industry buzz, and is expected to become classic ghetto gold.

One of the most respected Hip Hop artists on the West Coast, Eiht articulates, "I am still making my music, just being affiliated with the streets. I’m still in Compton, representing truth."

If you missed our world premiere of the first single last year, here is the song again, "Say Nothing/Comptons Back".

news Update on E-White's future projects - February 14, 2006 By : JustinL

E-White, former Doggystyle artist, is back at it again, and as usual DUBCNN has the first update. E-White has been on the grind since he got out of jail in December 2005 and is ready to come back with a vengeance. He currently is working on a mixtape with a couple huge DJs, a solo album, and a collabo album with another west coast artist you definitely know . . . but we cant tell you who that artist is yet. Ive been told that this album will have a minimum budget of $1 million so Im sure we can expect it to be huge. Before this collabo album comes out, a special edition mixtape will be released of these two artists.

E-WHITE: "Im just real excited to be back in the mix of the west coast movement. Im real excited about my situation with my management and a couple other people in my tight knit circle that I been working with. I know my fans and supporters have been patiently waiting and now Im glad that they about to find out that it was well worth the wait."

This kid is already one of the greats, and you've never heard of him. He goes by the name of Raje' and his timing and delivery are unorthodox, yet blend to a godlike marriage of rhythm. Raje' has something for everyone in his catalog. He has a unique style with a swagger all his own. His style can be defined in one word…versatile. Commercial, thought provoking, lyrical, or down right street, Raje' can get down with the best of them.

The Inland Empire (Moreno Valley) rapper has put out several mixtapes and albums. Right now, he's pushing his new mixtape "Raje' Volume 1" to the streets, and the album "Independently Major" to the majors. He was recently named a featured artist on UBL.com as a result of his smash single "Tonight" featuring Ronnie L (Sony Music Group). Not only a freestyler but an artist with the ability to make real hits, Raje' was in talks to sign with So So Def. After these meetings fell through, he decided to stay independent.

Dubcnn got some audio introducing Raje' which is showcasing his darker side. It's a new track called "Honestly" featuring Goldie Loc of Tha Eastsidaz.

news Paris Recruits His Soldiers To Deliver The Hard Truth - February 13, 2006 By : Nima

Bay Area revolutionary Paris is one of the so-called "underground" artists with a very loyal fan-base that stays supporting the rapper, who never fails to deliver music for those still fighting the system. Never allowing himself to get drawn into the watered-down rap category, Paris recently produced the entire latest Public Enemy album "Rebirth Of A Nation", which is in stores March 7th through Guerilla Funk Recordings.

Also dropping the same day is a compilation called "Hard Truth Soldiers Vol. 1". Started as a response to the current apolitical climate in commercial music, the "Hard Truth Soldiers compilation series is a rallying cry for social justice. Each volume is a collection of material that goes against the grain of commercial hip-pop by providing content of substance, touching on subjects ranging from war and police brutality to black on black crime and domestic violence.

And the Hard Truth Soldiers don't miss a beat.

Featuring Paris' trademark massive sonic production, Volume 1 showcases contributions from Public Enemy, The Coup, Dead Prez, Paris, T-KASH, Kam, The Conscious Daughters, MC Ren, Sun Rise Above, and The S.T.O.P. Movement (Mobb Deep, Tray Deee, Soopafly, KRS-One, Defari, Daz, J-Ro, RBX, Bad Azz, WC, Dilated Peoples, Mac Minister, The Alchemist, Mack 10, Evidence, Defari, Everlast, and B-Real), among others. Fredwreck produced the two S.T.O.P. Movement tracks.

Some of the tracks you may have heard before, others are new. Whatever the case, this is all powerful music, don't sleep on it. I have the tracklisting, along with two preview tracks for ya'll to download below.

The first track is by Bay Area artist T-K.A.S.H., who really gets a chance to shine on this compilation. His solo track "Made In America" is my personal favorite, a real banger. Check it out below:

T-K.A.S.H. - Made In America

The second one features once again T-K.A.S.H., who on this one hooks up with Paris and the Conscious Daughters. By the names alone you know this is gonna be a hard one, and you won't be dissapointed. Revolutionary rhymes over a pounding beat, check it below:

T-K.A.S.H., Paris & The Conscious Daughters - Raid

Tracklisting:

Can't Break Me - Kam
Still Ain't Free - MC Ren
Can't Hold Us Back - Public Enemy Featuring Paris
Woman's World - The Conscious Daughters (featuring Mystic)
Made In America - T-K.A.S.H.
Officer Down - Uno The Prophet
Inspiration - Truth Universal
The Road Less Travelled - Blitz
Throwyahandzup - Dead Prez, Sun Rise Above & T-K.A.S.H.

news Warren G & Nate Dogg "Need A Light" (Video) - February 10, 2006 By : Rud

You can all lay off my inbox now with the requests for the latest Warren G video, i told you it would be available for download here on dubcnn as soon as possible and as promised, we got it!

The second single from Warren G's latest album "In The Mid-Night Hour" features long time friend and collaborator Nate Dogg, the track is called "I Need A Light" and in its first two days of release on MySpace.com it racked up 28,000 plays and rocketed to #44 on the Billboard charts.

The track is one of the smoothest on the new album and is perfectly accompanied by the tones of Nate Dogg, speaking on the song Warren G commented: "‘I Need a Light’ is a song to sit back and listen to if you are stressin’ over something. Listen to the hook and it makes you feel good. As far as the lyrics in the song, I’m talking about growing up in Long Beach, some of the s*#! I went through, everything from what I saw as a kid up until now. We got to do it."

Nate Dogg also took time to break down his thoughts on the record: "This song is deep ‘cuz all of our other songs are about regulating on someone or having fun, talking ‘bout the game. It’s about when you are going through s*#!, you got people who smoke just to relax themselves. Like, I need a light man, there is so much going on in my life that I just need to relax. Or dammit, go get me a bottle or something ‘cuz I need a drink. There’s just so much stress going off, let me relax myself. That’s where I was going with the song. That’s where it’s at."

The music video for "I Need A Light" takes on a late 1940's post second world war period feel with contemporary flair and is the brainchild of director Paul Hunter; he explains the concept: "The overall tone of the video shows the classic side of Warren – how he built his empire from the streets of Long Beach and expanded it to the world. He is showing everyone that we can have a good time, look good and dress well. It’s all about class and treating people right. It’s really about the classy style of hip-hop."

Enough talk about the video and on with the media you have all been craving, below is the video for download, enjoy it courtesy of dubcnn and Hawino Records and drop feedback and thoughts over at the official dubcnn forum.

news One Session Puts Hip Hop Back To Underground Roots - February 10, 2006 By : Lil Jay

Da Noise in Suburbia is getting louder, grimmy, more street and, most importantly, restored with the signing of the group One Session to the label. Get ready to see a new wave of Hip Hop bubbling in the underground that's bringing things back around debut on their debut album "The Hidden Treasures Vol. 1", presented by Bobby B who largely arranged and scratched the album.

One Session is the brainchild of Hip Hop emcees Minus One, Tristate, and producer Cringe.

While this might be One Session's debut, the members' resumes speak volumes. Tristate's blend of street conscious lyrics and real life subject matter has been making waves throughout the Hip Hop community since 1992. Working with the likes of Tha Alkaholiks, Ras Kass, Xzibit, King T, and DJ Khalil, Tristate has made a mark in a crowded scene.

From the sounds of these cats it's hard to pinpoint the hometown. Hailing from the Los Angeles underground and ready to reign on industry heads with a combination of raw hip hop and street cred, One Session has emerged with a heart of the neighborhood philosophy and fifteen years of love for the Hip Hop culture. One Session is now poised and ready to present "The Family Jewels."

Dubcnn lets you preview 2 songs from the album "The Hidden Treasures". Hit the links to download them in Mp3:

news Review of DJ Quik Greatest Hits Live Show 2/3 - February 10, 2006 By : JustinL

Look out for the "Greatest Hits Live" DVD coming soon from DJ Quik and the Mad Science camp.

I recently had the opportunity to attend the DJ Quik Greatest Hits Live show at the House of Blues on Sunset. Here is a brief review I found, written by BEN QUIÑONES of L.A. Weekly. (This review is in reference to the February 3rd show)

"My Grammy Week got poppin’ tonight with a DJ Quik show that was off the hinges! A perm'd out Quik walked out and warned the audience, “This is something you don’t see in a hip-hop show.” True that: With a nine-piece live band and two back-up singers, Quik began to rap (or sing, really) classics from his first album, Quik Is the Name, like “Sweet Black Pussy,” “Born and Raised in Compton,” and the cool irie -feelin’ reggae hit “Tha Bombudd.” Bass player Erick Coomes made the night sound real deep-funky, especially on the James Brown cover “The Payback.” Quik also went into his new album, Trauma, including “Fandango” — with B-Real at his side — “Till Jesus Comes,” and “Black Mercedes,” with Nate Dogg joining him onstage. Quik even brought out surprise guest Chingy on the cut “Get Down.” For the encore he performed “Tonite,” and celebrated the night with some Veuve Clicquot champagne, some bottles of which he passed out to his loyal fans. We saw producer Fredwreck, Power 106’s Big Boy, Capitol Records’ Richie Abbott and the Mijares clan, Sara and Zazil. (Man, those girls can dance!) Quik finished things off by stage diving into the crowd. It was a night to remember."

** Robert Bacon was also playing with the band throughout the whole set.

Setlist:

news Sly Boogy Releases Statement Regarding His Situation - February 8, 2006 By : Lil Jay

What happened to Sly Boogy? A lot of people wondered what happened to the San Bernardino rapper, as he hasn't made any noise since his last mixtape project "The Fifth Letter" last summer. So what what happened to him? Another West Coast talent caught up in the industry politics?

The truth is, Sly Boogy never left. He's been hard at work in the studio; writing, recording, and performing at various shows (Inland Empire, Utah, Los Angeles, etc.). Sly Boogy feels his silence has gone on long enough, and that his fans have a right to know the truth.

Sly Boogy has been waiting for four years to tell his side of the story, but his silence has not been intentional. Sly has now released a detailed press release in form of a interview questionnaire with questions asked by fans. He explains what went wrong with Sway & King Tech and J Records, and it is here in this exclusive interview where Sly Boogy gives his never before told story.

With a new year in motion, Sly Boogy has been looking forward to a fresh start. Sly quotes, “I can’t wait to put the last four years behind me. This interview is very personal for me because I tried my best to answer the common questions asked by my fans over the last four years.” When asked if he has any regrets, Sly’s response, “I don’t have any regrets, just great experiences and wisdom.”

Hopefully through this interview, you can gather a clear picture of who Sly Boogy really is, where he’s been, and where he’s headed. At the pace he’s going you can expect to see something in stores for 2006!

M Dogg is back with the latest edition of his world famous "The Junkyard" editorial feature. In Volume Two he tackles the perception of Sales Numbers in Hip-Hop; something that at one-time true Hip-Hop fans used to point to when showing how much Hip-Hop has grown, yet they now point to it to show how much Hip-Hop has digressed. I've heard some serious talk from a few industry insiders that O.Cruz may very well be heading to Interscope or it's mainstay imprints, Dr. Dre's Aftermath Records or Eminem's Shady Records. Now, I'm sure most of you are probably thinking "Yeah... Everyone's signing to Aftermath."

But these rumors are strongly supported by Blunts appearing in a video with Detroit artist, Hush, a few months ago. The song features Nate Dogg on the hook and the Shady CEO, Eminem, on the beat. Being that Blunts is obviously in close contact with Hush, it, in a sense, reaffirms the rumors as to where he'll be signing.

Of course, these are only rumors, but who knows exactly what might happen. Remember where you heard it first! Your voice of Hip Hop... Dubcnn!

Check the Hush video, you'll see O right next to him throughout the video.
