news Spice 1 Is Back On Dubcnn! Exclusive Interview (Part 1) - March 31, 2008 By : Nima

Dubcnn linked up with the legendary Spice 1 for a three part interview; his first in-depth interview since he was shot late last year. Spice has fully recovered and is back in the studio recording his new album "Home Street Home", and took the time to tell dubcnn all about the night of the shooting, the circumstances, and his opinion on the gun laws.

This is Part 1 of 3, and a very emotional Spice 1 doesn't hold his tongue, spitting that rawness that his fans are used to from his music. Part 1 is all about the shooting, while the next parts will be focusing more on his new music.

You can read or listen to this exclusive interview below:

Incase you haven't heard Spice 1's first track since his recovery, make sure to listen to it below. It's called "Carried By Six", features Daz Dillinger and Spice talks about the creation of the song in the interview:

news The Game - Big Dreams: The Remixes - March 23, 2008 By : Nima

The Game's new single "Big Dreams" has barely been out a week and the remixes are already starting to pop up! Dubcnn decided to drop a few of them right here for ya'll to check out and see what you think. The most impressive remix is probably by Treacherous Records producer Komplex, who you know from his work with Crookde I and One-2.

He remixed "Big Dreams" with a new beat, and it should be illegal to waste such a banging beat on a remix! Feedback has been strong on this one, make sure to check it out below:

The Game - Big Dreams (Komplex Remix)

Then, there is the Black Wall Street Remix with Ya Boy and Juice dropping verses to the original Cool & Dre produced version, get it below:

Crooked I also jumped on the beat for Week 51 of his "Hip-Hop Weekly" series, incase you didn't get that on Wednesday, check it out below:

news Roccett Talks About New CD "Corporate America" - March 16, 2008 By : Eddie Gurrola

To celebrate the release of Roccett’s latest street album “Corporate America”, Dubcnn caught up with the CTE West representative to discuss the new project. When asked about the concept behind this new mixtape, Roccett said, “You know how corporate America is. They think for you to be a mainstream artist, you’ve got to be on the radio, on TV, or you’ve gotta make this kind of music or that kind of music. I’m showing that you can still be you and have your own corporate America going. I’ve got my own campaign in the streets going right now. That’s my corporate America – the streets, the underground.”

“Corporate America”, presented by DJ Warrior, DJ Skee, and Dow Jones, promises to be stock-full of quality original music. The project features production from the likes of Dae One, Tha Bizness, and Ervin “EP” Pope, and guest appearances from Young Jeezy, Young Buck, Akon and Mistah FAB! Roccett assures us that the new CD came out the way he wanted it to. “I really took my time to listen to every beat, picked out everything that I thought the fans would like and that I would like, and put it all together. It’s incredible.”

Speaking of the fans, Roccett has a message that he would like to get out to them. “I really do this for them. I know the fans appreciate good music and I’m trying to give them what they want. Keep checking for your boy.” He goes further and gives everyone a piece of valuable advice as well. “Anything that you’re trying to do out there for yourself, keep grindin’. You don’t need negative people around you that don’t believe and don't support you. Keep doing you. If they wanna hate, then let them get out of your way. You’re gonna make it anyway.”

With his debut retail album and many other projects set to drop by the end of 2008, Roccett has a full work-load on his hands. Right now though, he's focused on his latest project, and has high hopes for the fans’ reactions to “Corporate America”. “They’re gonna get a whole lot. I just kept it 100 and tried to make good music.”

We’ve got a preview track from the new street album for you to check out today. If you’re feeling it, be sure to head over to Roccett’s Myspace and pick up a copy of “Corporate America.”

news The Bloc Boyz Talk To Dubcnn! - March 15, 2008 By : Eddie Gurrola

After gaining a major buzz in 2007, The Bloc Boyz (K-Boy & Ace) are gearing up to flood West Coast hip-hop fans with quality music for the rest of this year. Between a new mixtape “Reality Check” that’s dropping for free download in a few weeks, and their long-awaited street album “Real Talk”, The Bloc Boyz are putting themselves in a perfect position to blow up in ’08.

K-Boy and Ace have been friends since high school, but it wasn’t until later that they officially came together to form The Bloc Boyz. “We ran back into each other somewhere on Sunset, linked up, and started doing a couple little things. Ever since then, that sh*t was just right,” said Ace. At the time, K-Boy had already aligned himself with Glasses Malone after an impromptu freestyle session. K-Boy recalls, “When me and Ace got back into contact, I [said to Glasses], ‘I’ve got a boy that wants in’. Once he heard Ace, it was a wrap. Since then, it’s been Blu Division for like three-and-a-half or four years now!”

In ’07, The Bloc Boyz appeared on a variety of mixtapes, including Glasses Malone’s “Electric Chair”. [Download Here] With the Death Row theme surrounding the project, instant comparisons were made, and some declared The Bloc Boyz as Tha Dogg Pound for a new generation. When asked about this, Ace simply said, “The Dogg Pound put it down hard for the streets. We take that as a compliment. Shouts out to Kurupt, shouts out to Daz.” The duo worked with Daz on “The Electric Chair” as well, and they considered it an honor. K-Boy told us, “To link up with a legend and a motherf*cker that you grew up to, listened to, and looked up to? That’s crazy! For him to f*ck with us, and for him to give us that stamp, it’s unbelievable. I’m lost for words.”

As of late, the self-described “lab rats” have been recording material non-stop. The first offering from The Bloc Boyz will be “Reality Check”, a mixtape hosted by DJ Ill Will, DJ Rampage, and DJ Blvd. When asked about the project, Ace said, “That’s basically a whole lot of music that we’ve been recording. We’re just gonna do it for the internet - free download. Following that is the street album, which is crazy.”

The forthcoming street album in question, “Real Talk”, is promised to be “what the game’s been missing.” Ace said, “Basically, we’re giving you us. We’re giving you what we go through, we’re giving you what everyone else might go through. We’re actually talking about something. We’re actually having fun with the music. We’re doing different things, and just trying to showcase the West. We want to show people what West Coast life is really like.”

Aside from the mixtape and street album, K-Boy and Ace are also working on solo projects. K-Boy is putting together “The Green Mixtape”, which aims to bring West Coast unity to a higher level. “I’m trying not to glorify gangbanging in a negative way. Crips and Bloods can get along, we can do music and get money together, and we can be real friends. I reached out to [artists like] Jay Rock, Lil Bam, 211, Roccett, and Big Wy [for the project]. It’s gonna be a hell of a tape. What I wanted to do is put everybody together and let them know that we’re really pushing the ‘blue and red make green’ out here.”

Meanwhile, Ace has been working on the “Get It Gang” street album with Taje. “That tape right there is something serious. Taje reached out to a n*gga because he seen a n*gga grindin’. He seen what me and K-Boy were doing.” The group also has nothing but respect for LNS’s Dae One. “Shouts out to Dae One. Dae One was actually the first producer to really f*ck with us on a heavy level and provide us with a sound that only fits The Bloc Boyz. When we get into the studio with Dae One, it’s like magic,” says K-Boy.

With a full-lineup of street offerings this year, The Bloc Boyz are making it their mission to be heard. On top of the new music, the Boyz have established their own company, Hustle Money Ent., as well. The group is confident about their position in the game, and envisions major plans for themselves in the future. “[Other artists] hear the music and realize that we’re real n*ggas. Everybody’s f*ckin’ with us.”

We’ve got a new track from “Reality Check” for you to listen to today. The banger is called “I’m Hood”, and it’s not one that you’ll want to pass up. Download it below.

The Bloc Boyz – I’m Hood [Produced by Chris Judge]

Make sure to check out The Bloc Boyz on Myspace, and be on the look out for “Reality Check” to drop on Dubcnn for free download in the next few weeks. The group wants to give a big shout out to Andino, the studio they record at, as well!

Some of you may remember Cavie aka Caviar from his "Bouncin' Down The Blvd" track with Timbaland a few years ago, or from his work with Aaliyah and Toni Braxton. The Compton rapper/producer has been one the quieter cats on the West but has been making some of the bigger moves.

For the past year, he's been down in Atlanta with T.I. and the Grand Hustle camp, you might have caught him on some of the videos representing. But now, Cavie is ready to step out to the frontline and show the world what he's capable of.

He's currently working on a remix album to Xzibit's "Full Circle" album, which was often criticized because of the production. We have two tracks from the album right here for ya'll so you can see what to expect from the project, the first one is a remix to "On Bail", featuring The Game, T-Pain & Daz, and the second is "Movin' In Yo Chucks", featuring Kurupt & Too Short. news Young Keno Makes Major Moves With New Single - March 11, 2008 By : Eddie Gurrola

Young Keno is making major noise on Los Angeles radio station Power 106 with his latest single "Let's Get Together". The song, produced by A.O.W.'s Amil.G and featuring Roscoe Umali and Sharis, is a feel-good anthem that didn't take long to start buzzing.

After its premiere on Power January 23rd, the track has already made its way to the mix-show playlist. This is quite an accomplishment for an independent artist, West Coast or not. Although we're a little late dropping the track here on Dubcnn, we've got it for you today. Check it out below.

Young Keno - Let's Get Together (ft. Roscoe Umali & Sharis) [Produced by Amil.G]

You can look out for Young Keno's mixtape to drop with DJ Nik Bean in the near future. It'll actually be coming a bit faster than Keno originally anticipated. "I didn't expect the single to take off already!" Keno explained to Dubcnn. Although he's currently busy on a Power 106 high school tour, Keno assured us, "This mixtape is going to come along real soon."

The project is a collaboration of sorts with Keno's A.O.W. partner Roscoe Umali. The duo will drop new solo songs on the mixtape, as well as a few collaboration tracks. "It's been like this since day one," Keno told us. "Roscoe and I are really trying to pull up each other. We're really piggybacking and supporting each other, and it's been working in our best interests since we started."

We've got two more songs from Keno for you today. The first is called "Fresh 2 Def", featuring Hot Dollar. This track also appears on Nik Bean, Felli Fel, and DJ Drama's "Streets Of L.A. 4" mixtape, which you can buy here.

Young Keno - Fresh 2 Def (ft. Hot Dollar) [Produced by Amil.G]

The final track we've got is "Gotta Get This Paper", featuring Roscoe Umali, Damani, and Stress of The Federation. This one's got an old-school West Coast flavor to it that we're sure you're going to love.

Young Keno - Gotta Get This Paper (ft. Roscoe Umali, Damani, & Stress of The Federation) [Produced by KikBak On The Track]

Make sure to visit Young Keno on his Myspace Page for more information, and request "Let's Get Together" on Power 106 now by texting it in to 69106.

news Gangsta Rap Breathes New Life Into...Uh...Gangsta Rap - March 6, 2008 By : Rud

Not so long ago the established label Delicious Vinyl released an album that may have caused some to look confused. The release in question was Gangsta Rap's "The Glockumentary" - an album by a group bold enough to name themselves after their chosen genre!

Murder Mike, Du-Rag and DJ Ballistics are the three Compton residents not afraid to revisit the late '80's! Finger waves, dookie braids and curl activator are back with a vengeance. Beatdowns, beepers and A-K spray are here to stay - and Gangsta Rap's The Glockumentary is the album of the year. "Well, it would've been album of the year in 1988," says Murder Mike, Gangsta Rap's jheri-curled giant. "We just couldn't get it put out until 2008."

With the lead single House Shoes quickly turning heads the group quickly established a fan base for the DVD film - Gangsta Rap: The Glockumentary - which was released on DVD from Th!nkFilm on February 5, 2008 that sits alongside the album release.

"The Glockumentary" really does take you back to the days when a Parental Advisory Warning stickers really meant something - albeit it still doesn't seem quite adequate - as Gangsta Rap's ruthlessest rapper Du-Rag thoughtfully observes; "Our music is not suitable for children, who are sure to love it."

Dubcnn's own Guest Writer Peter Relic recently took his life into his own hands and got some phone time with DuRag just long enough to talk about house shoes, gold fronts, and what's really going on with Tracy Morgan. The interview, which again Parental Discrection is advised, can be read below.

Exclusive Interview With Du-Rag of Gangsta Rap [March 2008]

Gangsta Rap was a surprise signing to Delicious Vinyl, the long-respected Los Angeles home to groups like Tone-Loc and The Pharcyde. When asked about the signing, Delicious Vinyl president Michael Ross admitted; "We're officially hemorrhaging credibility like there's no tomorrow." When asked about this dispiriting comment from the head of their label, Du-Rag had this to say: "Hemorrhaging, that means they bleeding right? Cool." And Murder Mike clarified: "What he mean 'like no tomorrow'? There is no tomorrow, fool!"

With that said all that is left to do is leave you with two cuts from their recent debut and let you judge them for yourselves!

Gangsta Rap - House Shoes
Gangsta Rap - My Mamas A B-tch!

Enjoy the new music, check out the exclusive feature and stay tuned to Dubcnn as you never know when Gangsta Rap could be back again!

news Cashis Drops The "Loose Cannon" Mixtape - March 4, 2008 By : Lil Jay

It's only been a month since Cashis released his last mixtape called "The Leak" here on Dubcnn [see: Shady Records Rapper Cashis Brings You "The Leak"], and the Shady Capo has already returned with another new mixtape for free download exclusively on Dubcnn. Today we bring you the 22 track deep "Loose Cannon Mixtape Volume 1".

Cashis picked that title for the mixtape series because it's an early preview for the offical "Loose Cannon" debut album dropping on July 25th. That's right, Shady Records finally gave him a release date for the summer as they're nearing completion soon. Just by looking at the line-up of this double album, you can tell that this could be one of the biggest projects to hit the Coast in the last few years. It has a nice mix of guest appearances from the likes of Eminem, Young Buck, Obie Trice, Bun B, Cee-Lo, Tru Life, Juelz Santana, San Quinn, Mistah F.A.B., Goldie Gold from The Federation, Keyshia Cole, Jon B, and many more to come.

But back to the mixtape: The project, which was mixed by DJ Arkane and compiled by Rikanatti and DJ Arkane, features original production by the Blocc Boyz, Tha Bizness, C Major as well as borrowed beats. As far as the content goest, you can expect a different side from Cashis this time around. «With "Loose Cannon" I wanna set a high level of quality. It could really be an album because I really put my heart into it. It shows my maturity as an artist, because there are a lot of different songs on there. Of course you got the West Coast influenced tracks and even the radio songs because certain people didn't know I could do them» Cashis told Dubcnn.

Besides dropping the free mixtape series, Cashis will also be shooting a few videos in the coming weeks. «I got a crazy West Coast anthem called "Brand New Chucks" that we're gonna shoot a video for. It's produced by Eminem and it's about loving California and our culture out here. We're gonna shoot that, and also the jump off single which might be the song with Bun B. So we're gonna be shooting three videos real quick» Cashis continued.

As you can see, Cashis' grind is in full motion and the buzz is getting bigger by the day. To keep the ball rolling you can download Volume 1 of the "Loose Cannon" mixtape series below.
