40 Glocc Flips "Love Is A Battlefield", Colton City Style - April 30, 2006 By : Nima

Everybody and their mama knows the classic 80's hit "Love Is A Battlefield" by Pat Benatar. Well, what happens when you take that sample, and let an Infamous/G-Unit artist from Colton City, California give it his own twist?
40 Glocc is a household name on dubcnn, and took that task upon himself. Sometime last year he let me hear his version of "Love Is A Battlefield", but we decided against releasing it at that time. People weren't ready! Now it's 2006, people got a better understanding of who 40 Glocc is, and through his Infamous/G-Unit affiliation, the world got to see him on "The Massacre Tour 2006" all over the world.
With his current street banger "Where Them Hammers (ft. Sam Scarfo)" (Prod. by Rick Rock) blazing radio stations nationwide, and his buzz steadily growing, I thought now would be a good time to let ya'll get a glimpse of some, you might say, different Hip-Hop.
Anyway, enough talking, it's time to let ya'll check it out! Listen to 40 Glocc's "Love Is A Battlefield" by clicking below:
40 Glocc - Love Is A Battlefield
40 Glocc is also getting ready to go on tour with Mobb Deep & the Infamous camp (Nyce, Gail Gotti, Sam Scarfo, 40 Glocc, Alchemist) for the release of Mobb's new album "Blood Money". I will be bringing ya'll the tour dates asap, lookout for them to take over the House Of Blues in Hollywood around the end of May, where 50 Cent is rumoured to be making a surprise appearance. Stay tuned!Discuss This Topic

Tha Dogg Pound & Ice Cube Invade Portland! - April 30, 2006 By : Nima

As ya'll know, Tha Dogg Pound and Ice Cube have been touring through the States along with The Clipse opening up for them, and they've been tearing down every venue they hit. On the 28th, they stopped in Portland, OR and our forum member 187Proof was present and posted a detailed review, aswell as a series of pictures from the show.
I've posted highlights of the review below, aswell as a couple pictures, but to see the full review and all the pictures, click here to view the topic on the forums.
"First off, let me start off by saying that I have been to this venue (The Roseland Theatre, in downtown Portland) MANY times....seen MANY concerts there, but I have NEVER see a show packed like this one! I mean, you had to almost have a snorkel that was 6 ft tall in the air to get fresh air to your lungs....that's just how packed this place was!
.....
After a brief break to set up their equipment, Tha Dogg Pound came storming out to the stage! Daz & Kurupt were in the building for sure on this Friday night! At this point the crowd was the loudest as it could get, all night! I mean everyone was AMPED!!! I don't remember the last concert I was at where this kind of atmosphere, this kind of electricity could be matched! It was uncanny! They performed such hits and verses from tracks such as "What Would U Do", "New York, New York", "Cali Iz Active", "Who Ride Wit Us", "Xplosive", "All That I Need" and several more!
.....
Next up Ice Cube & WC were brought to the stage by DJ Crazy Toones. They did about an hour set where the performed hits such as "Jackin For Beats", "Today Was A Good Day", "Bow Down", "The Streets", "Gangsta's Make The World Go 'Round", "Natural Born Killaz", and many others. At one point, before going in to "Bow Down", WC declared himself & Ice Cube as "The Real Westside Connection". Of course Mack 10 was never mentioned throughout the night so I guess their's still decension between the camp. "
Click below for some of the pictures.

Diego Redd - "Hottest In West Or Whole U.S?" - April 28, 2006 By : Rud

If you were an Up & Coming artist how would an endorsement from Kanye West register? Exactly, it doesn't get much bigger when the current "IT" man in Hip-Hop says; "One of the hottest out of the west or all over the United States"
Now if that isn't enough to make the world sit up and take note I don't know what is. Enter; Diego Redd, now if you ain't knowing - get knowing, read up and school up right here on the hottest talent out of Fresno, California.
At 25 he has already been in the game making records on a professional level for a decade however only now is he set to make the transition to the forefront of the public-eye.
So with 10 years of perfecting a craft and a verbal accolade from Kanye West surely it's time you respected the hustle and started to listen to the material that brought him that respect? Get ready then...
Over recent years he has had his share of major label attention and platinum artist affiliation; including working with producers including Scott Storch and artists such as Xzibit and Nate Dogg. Having a stint with Def Jam Records gave him the feeling that the situation he felt happy and most comfortable in was the self-made, independent route; and as such created the imprint; Rebel Music.
Having grown up in the gritty & tough westside of of Fresno, Diego Redd has witnessed and partaken in much of what you hear in the music we call Hip Hop - yet don't assume he encompasses a Thug image and is caught up with discussing what heat he holds or how much weight he moved this week. Diego Redd is a proverbial sponge, he soaks up what he sees and he lays it out for others to interpret; he sits between what some would call a "Backpack" rapper and what the mainstream is used to; exactly the kind of artist needed. He has real charisma, real emotion and when you hear him you can feel that passion that drives him to make music...the same passion that has earned him the accolades and the attention.
He first showcased all this talent last year when he released his debut album; "Living Proof" which featured artists including W.C (of Westside Connection), E-40 & Yukmouth; not bad for a first attempt. Since then he has been working even harder and in the fall of 2005 released; "Dog Eat Dog" his sophomore album which includes production from Kanye West [on "The Whole City Behind Us" - he replaces The Game, with Kanye's approval], Scott Storch, Clark Kent and others as well as Ludacris, Kanye West & 50 Cent as guest appearences. Kanye's verbal accolade makes an appearence as an album skit [available below]. The album encompases work from the Def Jam era as well as new material from his time with Hecktik and the Rebel Music camp; audio of which dubcnn has available below.
The future looks bright to say the least for this young artist, the releases so far have gained praise across the country giving this Fresno native the world at his feet...only time will tell what's next for Diego Redd, one thing is for sure; this is not the last time we will be hearing from him.
As ever dubcnn has audio for you to enjoy below, check it out and please take time to feedback over at the dubcnn community.
Diego Redd - Street Hustla Diego Redd - All American (Feat. 50 Cent) (Hecktik Remix) Diego Redd - In The No Diego Redd - Incredible Diego Redd - Kanye Skit
Most recently we have news that he has been in the studio with GLC (recording artist of Kanye West as well as San Quinn. This week he is scheduled to be in New York recording with R&B sensation Ne-Yo and Remy Ma as well as talking to labels; stay tuned to dubcnn for the latest. In the meantime visit Diego Redd's official site; Rebel 247. Our thanks go out to Diego Redd, Hecktik and Rebel Music as a whole. Photo credit: Daniella Renee.Discuss This Topic

"Its Not A Game" For Lynwood's McClain - April 23, 2006 By : Rud

Lynwood, California has - as many areas - its fair share of MC's hustling to make it in the industry, one we want to showcase here today goes by the name of McClain. Hailing from the Pimp-Infested, money hungry streets of Lynwood he has grown up most of his life with no father, surviving off welfare, sharing everything he possibly had with his 4 younger siblings as they moved from city to city including Fresno, San Bernardino, Long Beach & Compton.
Poverty was the least of his worries as he watched countless friends and family members die or get senselessly murdered.
Witnessing this, no matter the age, is always going to lead someone to have an escape route and as such McClain, as do so many, sourced music as his outlet.
Now when you try and distinguish yourself as an artist you can rely on only a few things, your voice, flow and lyrics. Now although flow can be switched and lyrics can be improved your voice's texture is always going to be a factor...can people 'feel' your passion? Encompassing genres to his musical outlet has helped McClain grow as an artist and as such the flavour he brings on different cuts give different angles to his persona.
In recent years he has appeared on televison [Girlfriends & Century City], in movies [Voice over in I-Robot & Old Skool] and gotten his feet wet in the Industry; however he wants more: "I want to make an impact when it comes to anything I put my hands to whether it's music, acting, drawing, or plain out working a 9-to-5. I've been doing this whole Music thing since I was 14 years old, And now I got a Shorty there's no turning back, I'm a beast anything anyone give me. After I lost a couple people in life since then I've just been on the grind making this music stuff work for me."
Climbing the industry 'ladder' is tough for all aspiring artists however he has had advice from vets including Clarence Avant, worked with experienced professionals such as Blaqthoven & Jellyroll and had praise from Mr. Rodney O. Collaborations have been a key aspect to his rise in local circles and aims to take it to a wider level in terms of exposure.
So far he has been features on mixtapes including "Halla The Buzz Vol. 2", "DJ Nicky Slicks : Rebirth of the West", "Gain Green Records Present - Stress : Young Church Vol.1 & Vol.2" and countless others. He has also featured alongside Stress and Jellyroll in the music video for the record; "Hot Patada."
In terms of his own projects he is putting the finishing touches to a mixtape entitied; "McClain Presents (3552 Lynwood)Da Mixtape" as well as making plans for a debut album. We have material from McClain for you to hear what he has done so far, including some original material; "Its Not A Game" featuring Blaqtoven and a record with dubcnn regulars N.V. as well as some mixtape tracks - one over the Tupac track "Pain."
McClain - It's Not A Game (Feat. Blaqtoven) McClain - Show Me What Ya Blocks Made Of (Feat. Killa Twan & Young Thug) McClain - Problems (Feat. N.V.) McClain - Pain (Feat. 1 Punch) (Over "Pain" by Tupac)
Once you have heard the new music, feel free to drop your thoughts over at the dubcc community. Look out for McClain to be featured on dubcnn again as we keep up with his releases and latest news. In the meantime you can visit his label's website Gain Green Records and learn more about the company is doing and who is involved.Discuss This Topic

"Truth" Emerges From Louisiana To Stake His Claim - April 23, 2006 By : Rud

Although northwest Louisiana is not often aligned with dubcnn and Hip-Hop; today marks an exception. In 1982 an artist was born who goes by the name of Truth. Child of a middle-class pre-school teacher and papermill worker, he was the families only son. As the years progressed he found the perfect way to express himself was via lyrics and as a youngster began rapping accapella with no knowledge of structure. As his 'poetry' evolved he found ways to portray his life when he was transferred to a city high school where he quickly began to see life in a new light, and began to see struggles that occurred in the streets.
Having taken to participating in rap battles and freestyle ciphers he quickly made a name for himself. Dropping out of college due to financial problems he yearned for a change of scene, so with $200 and a notebook he moved to Orlando Florida, living for two months with a friend where he slept on the floor. He then met Spider who envisioned starting a label with Truth as an artist. Time elapsed and the label collapsed due to financial constraints, as a result Truth found himself at a loss until he met Dox the Ceo of Colab Ent.
After talking they made the decision to work together; this time there was no time wasting or finance issues - they were in the studio recording original material. Still in Orlando Florida he has made a name for himself performing, his wordplay, raspy voice and deep content helps him separate himself from your average southern MC. The release of his debut mixtape; "Too Good To Be Truth" has resulted in him quickly becoming a household name in the homes of thousands from the east to west coast. The hard work earned him a spot on Dow Jones' "Play Your Position Part 3" where he was featured alongside names such as Snoop Dogg, The Game & 50 Cent.
Truth explains the essence of who he is right here: "I feel that a big relevant part of the true meaning of hip hop was taken away from us in the loss of Tupac and Biggie. There is a much needed presence of tracks such as 'I Ain’t Mad at Cha' and '10 Crack Commandments.' I know my purpose in life. Its not to change some ones life but to inspire one who wants to change. I am a person for the people and of the people. That’s why when people refer to me as a rapper who writes good music about life, I swiftly correct them by stating. I am not a Rapper that writes good music about life. I am a writer that raps great music that comes from the soul"
Now the name makes sense huh? That's real talk; and as ever we have media to showcase his work available below including a freestyle over a Scott Storch production and a cut with dubcnn regular Wyze Randal.
Truth - Who Am I (Prod. By Wreck Wregular) Truth - Real OG's (Feat. Wyze Randal) (Prod. By Publik) Truth - Let That Go Truth - Best Of Both Hoodz (Freestyle) (Prod. By Scott Storch)
Look out for Truth on his upcoming releases which include "Nu Money", "Strictly for the Misses" & "Best of Both Hoodz" mixtapes as well as his as yet untitled debut album. In the meantime visit Truth's MySpace page.Discuss This Topic

Everyday Rick Ross, Busta Rhymes and Omar Cruz Be Hustlin' - April 21, 2006 By : SGV

What does an up and comer from the West, an up and comer from the South and an East Coast legend have in common? Everyday they hustlin'! Omar Cruz hopped on the already hot Remix of the first single for Slip N Slide/Def Jam's latest signee, Rick Ross, entitled "Hustlin'." Previously only featuring a guest verse from Flipmode General, Busta Rhymes, the Miami emcee was blessed to have Omar Cruz drop some Cali hustle on this Hustlers Anthem.
"They said we couldn't rap, they said we couldn't trap, well ask T.I. about L.A., bet he know about that!"
Peep the little insert of T.I.'s smash "What You Know" at the point of the song. If you liked this Remix with just Busta on it, you won't be dissapointed with this latest version. Shouts to DJ Skee, LuLu and BYI Entertainment for this "Westside Hype Radio Exclusive."

E-40 To Appear On Upcoming Snoop Dogg Album - April 21, 2006 By : Lil Jay

The Dogg Pound just hit up Dubcnn to let us know that Snoop Dogg recently reached out to the Ambassador of the Yay, E-40, for a guest appearance. They laid down the vocals a couple of weeks back, and the song is scheduled to appear on Snoopy's next solo album "The Blue Carpet Treatment", due out later this year.
This project will surprise a lot of people, as it will have a total different vibe than his last album "R&G: The Masterpiece". And this feature with E-40 is another indication for a switch-up.

In related news, Kurupt has already started working on his next solo album which is still untitled. He's putting it out on the major market through Snoop's Doggystyle Records at the end of the year (Snoop also took over the executive producer role). So far they recorded 6 songs, the first 3 songs are produced by Fredwreck and the other 3 are produced by Mel-Man. Until then, watch out for Kurupt's upcoming underground project "Same Day, Different Shit", and of course the DPG album "Cali Iz Active" which is out in stores June 27th.

Messy Marv & San Quinn's "Explosive Mode 2" Out Now - April 21, 2006 By : Lil Jay

My boy Yash already let you guys hear a preview of Messy Marv and San Quinn's "Explosive Mode 2: Back In Business" in our last Weekend Audio. Dubcnn would like to remind everybody out there that the album was officially released this week and is on sale now.
The album is a nice follow up to Volume 1, and fans are already debating on different things about the album, such as the length as it's only 10 songs and 2 skits. The album is indeed short but sweet in the song selection, with "How I Came Up" (produced by Davey D) being one of the standout tracks.
The overall production is very good and it gives the entire album a very melodic vibe. There aren't any guest appearances on the album, which is good because people requested Messy Marv and San Quinn and that's what they get from start to finish.Discuss This Topic

Yung Walt: An Artist On The Rise...Quickly - April 20, 2006 By : mrtonguetwista

You will be forgiven for wondering when you first download these tracks from newcomer Yung Walt if we have presented something other than Hip-Hop, the track "Playboy" although starting with "I know you gonna dig this" presents a soulful sound with a light tempo that may surprise you - if not then "Dreams" surely will; with its light 'keys' intro that lulls you into the song with its melodic feel and unbelievable catchy hook...you'll soon be wondering when you hear the tracks if we have stumbled across something a little special with this artist.
So who is the person behind Yung Walt?
Well the goverment know him as Walter Gaines but the neighbourhood know him by his music. Graduating from Inglewood High in 2002 after swapping and changing schools he opted to head towards a career in hip-hop. When he turned 17 he looked at his life thus far and began to think that this was his calling.
Having spent most of his youth being the "Man of the House" for his mother and sister he wants to show and prove through words and rhymes and after dropping out of college in 2003, a decision he was criticsed for, he has achieved great things including landing a hit single with Snoop Dogg on the "Welcome To Tha Church Tha Album" release on the track "Shake Dat Sh-t," where he wrote and performed lyrics for the hook. He has since worked with various producers such as; Battlecat, Terrace Martin, 1500 and Chordz. He has recorded a solo album which is titled "Hustle 2 Struggle" under the independent label "Ghetto Child ENT" run by himself and partners Bubba and Mac Jackson. Due to the extensive street buzz and credibility created in California along with the street team and own promoters, the album has managed to sell over 3,000 copies in Los Angeles alone since January 2006.
This is not an artist to be ignored; raw talent is rare and when portrayed correctly a pleasure to see and hear - check out the music below and pick up a copy of Snoop Dogg's "Welcome To The Church Tha Album" to see him credited - shouts to Snoop for getting Yung Walt on the project.

Weekend Audio (Messy Marv, San Quinn, RBX, Papoose) - April 16, 2006 By : Yash

I decided to end this years Easter holiday with a huge audio update from upcoming albums that we think you guys should definitely give a listen to.
We start with the album from Messy Marv & San Quinn called Explosive Mode 2. It is a very solid album with zero featurings, which is refreshing. How I Came Up is my favourite song from the album but pretty much all of the songs are certified bangers.
Now let’s move on to one of the realest groups from the west called The Coup; who have an album coming out April 25th on Epitaph entitled "Pick A Bigger Weapon"; the release has some of the freshest audioscapes The Coup have ever produced. Backed by Tom Morello, Dwayne Wiggins, veterans of Parliament-Funkadelic, The Gap Band, Toni Tony Tone, Jesse Johnson, and Frankie Beverly and Maze.
Listen to the song called My Favourite Mutiny featuring Black Thought & Talib Kweli.
Next up we bring a banger from Ant D.O.G. entitled "Playaz Party" featuring Yukmouth, Shock G, Ray Luv, Mac Mall, JT. His brand new album is called "Dogshit" and apart from the above mentioned artists, he also has T Kash, Skrilla & Roc on the album, which is in stores now.
This weekends’ r&b song is from Avant's upcoming album "Director". The album drops April 25th on Geffen. The song we have for you features JD and is called "GPSA". Make sure you checkout our interview with Avant for more info on this smooth r&b album by clicking here.
This week we decided to showcase the soundtrack to Touchstone Pictures' new comedy "Stick It"; the movie starts playing in cinemas April 21st and the OST is in stores right now. We have the song called Crowded by Jeannie Ortega and Papoose. Missy Elliot and Talib Kweli are some of the other artists who are on the soundtrack.
RBX is working on his upcoming album, but for now you can check him out on the Da Danker's debut album "Vallejo's Top Exec". Da Danker's album is out in stores and features San Quinn, Keak Da Sneakand few other bay rappers. Checkout the song titled "End Of Days" ft RBX and Jt The Bigga Figga. RBX is about to do some stuff with Dresta the Gangsta but more news on that later.
Last but not least I got a slumper from DJ Fresh Presents...The Tonite Show with Smigg Dirtee. The song I'm talking about is "A Gust Of Wind" featuring Ya Boy & Tower..
As ever we feature "Weekend Audio" to remind you of what new material is out and urge you all to go out and buy the albums and mixtapes if you are feeling any of the tracks!

Da Backwudz and Bun B Don't Like The Look Of It - April 13, 2006 By : SGV

Oompa Loompa's has never been so funky. Atlanta duo Da Backwudz recently released their latest single "I Don't Like The Look Of It" with a hot sample from the 1971 cult classic movie Willy Wonka And The Choclate Factory. They take one of the songs performed by the little works of the factory the Oopma Loompa's and flipped into their new banger. As with any hot track, a Remix always follows. They keep the vocal sample, but DJ Montay of the Oomp Camp lays a menacing backdrop for Da Backwudz and Caz Clay to match their new verses with the legendary Underground King himself, Bun B.
We have the track here for you:

Pastor Troy Says The Police Cant Break It Up - April 13, 2006 By : SGV

Born in the College Park section of Atlanta, GA, yet growing up in Agusta (Only to move back to Atlanta later in life) Pastor Troy made his name back in the late 90s with his scathing Master P diss record "No More Play In GA," as well with his amazing Independent following, which led to a three year stint with Universal Records. Since his last major release in 2004, PT has been keeping a steady pace of strong guest appearances. This year, he's dropping two albums, Money & Power and the 845 Ent./SMC/Fontana/Universal release, Stay True. We have a track from the latter, that, yet again, reaffirms Pastor Troy is a force to be reckoned with on the mic. More than your typical Crunk rapper, the Pastor implements substance, alongside his ode's to tearing clubs up.
This particular song though, is more riot inducing, than thought provoking.
"My Killas Is Tired, And I'm Gettin' Tired, And We Won't Quit, Til That Grill Re-Wired, Ya Hoe!"
Check out "Police Can't Break It Up" courtesy of Dubcnn, the Room Service Group and 845 Ent.:

DJ Quik & Omar Cruz Tear Up Rosarito On April 15th! - April 11, 2006 By : SGV

Compton and West L.A. connect to bring you the final and possibly the hottest show during Rosarito, Mexico's Spring Break concert series. The series, which has already boasted performances from Dancehall top biller Sean Paul, Mack 10, The Game, E-40 & Lil Jon, Lil Eazy E and many more, will come to a close this weekend, with DJ Quik and the next to blow Omar Cruz.
For those in and around the SouthWest area, I suggest heading South this weekend to catch this show. It'll be well worth your money. Not only great performances, but there's sure to be an abundance of women (plenty of dudes for the ladies) as well as no shortage of liquor in sight. As long as you're 18 and up with a valid ID, you're good to go. Hop on those 5 and 15 freeway's drive South to the border, you'll be there in no time. Dubcnn will be in the place alongside the BYI Family so holla at us!

Melloe Won States "Im Back" & "Gets Busy" - April 11, 2006 By : Rud

Last year we introduced you to an artist on the westcoast by the name of Melloe Won who was grinding hard as part of the group The Doty Boys. Since we initially brought him to the attention of dubcnn readers he made the biggest noise on the internet when we exclusively premiered a track of his with Dr. Dre, Nate Dogg and Snoop Dogg - a track that countless DJ's, websites and outlets edited and called a "Detox" teaser track which was utter rubbish. The Snoop & Nate verses were new as was the Dr. Dre production however his verse featured on Nate Dogg's "Your Wife" track in 2001. The track, as we originally stated was given to Melloe Won for his mixtape; "The Next On The West Vol. 1". The track we premiered was: There They Go.
Since then he has been working hard touring across the country as part of the DUB Magazine Car Show where he has performed with countless mainstream artists including Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Slim Thug and many more. He often has the pleasure of Vida Guerra for company too - its a hard life! To view some of the footage and pictures from those shows check out Dub Magazine or visit his Official Site.
With the year now in full effect he gave dubcnn a call and asked us to premiere some new music that will be on his latest mixtape; "The Next On The West Vol.2" which drops at the end of this month. We have a new track which features fellow memeber of The Doty Boys, Moe Moe laced by Dem Jointz as well as a second which sums up his message; "Im Back"
Melloe Won - We Gets Busy (Feat. Moe Moe) (Produced By. Dem Jointz) Melloe Won - Im Back (Produced By. One-2 "Can't Leave Rap Alone" - New Joint! - April 9, 2006 By : Nima

That's right! Treacherous Records artist One-2 hit up dubcnn again with a new joint! After we brought you his critically acclaimed mixtape "High School Dropout", where One-Tweezy showed us for the first time why he's one to really watch out for, he has recently completed his new tape called "New Day, New Money".
The 21 year old MC, who's catalogue boasts tracks with the likes of Crooked I, Jayo Felony & Big Syke, is known for his clever wordplay and sharp lyrics. Personally, he impressed me by speaking on deep topics, but at the same time keeping it humorous and easy to listen to.
On this new song, produced by Komplex, he samples the infamous Jay-Z line "Can't Leave Rap Alone, The Game Needs Me" over some hard hitting drums. 'Nuff talk, download the song for yourself and be the judge:
One-2 - Can't Leave Rap Alone (Prod. by Komplex)
Enjoy, and watch out for the latest on One-2, as always, right here on dubcnn.Discuss This Topic
