news June 2nd, The Wait Is Over, Who Has Omar Cruz Signed With? - May 30, 2006 By : SGV

This coming Friday, June 2nd 2006, the rumors will all cease to exist as B.Y.I Entertainment's very own Omar Cruz will be holding his official press conference. As you may know, it's rumored that he's going to be signing to a huge major label, that will all be cleared at the conference, as well as and what type of label deal BYI has, too. Last year, O.Cruz dropped his first, now classic, mixtape City of Gods, which sent not just the streets and the internet, but the industry in a frensy. We've heard labels such as Dr. Dre's Aftermath, Eminem's Shady, 50 Cent's G-Unit, as well as Jay-Z and Def Jam have all been interested in signing Omar. Well stay tuned to Dubcnn as we'll have the EXCLUSIVE first look at who he'll be signing with.

BYI Entertainment would like to thank "all the fans, especially the Westcoast, for all the support Omar Curz has received. To show the appreciation and to give back, B.Y.I Entertainment will allow everybody to download Omar Cruz' two classic mixtapes City Of Gods & Blow for FREE. All you have to do is head over to their official site, BYIEntertainment.com and sign up for the forum. But, if that's not enough to feed your O Dot needs, you'll be able to find him on numerous mix tapes with the likes of DJ Skee, Whoo Kid and a host of others from all over the United States. We premiered Omar Cruz' Remix of "Hustlin'," which you'll still be able to hear all over Sirius Satelite, which features Def Jam's Rick Ross and Aftermath's Busta Rhymes.

As I said earlier, Dubcnn will be at this exclusive Press Conference on June 2nd to bring you the UP TO THE MINUTE news on what went down. Accept no substitutes for your West Coast or general Hip Hop news!

news Brand New Music From Dirty Birdy - May 29, 2006 By : Lil Jay

Even though he's still in the studio finishing his new "Mixtape Volume 3", Dirty Birdy has laced us at Dubcnn with 2 more tracks in support of his upcoming projects. We premiered his infamous "Rumerz" song last summer, which showcased his talent to deliver sick flows packed with a lot of humor. The Inland Empire veteran has yet to release "Volume 2" of his mixtape series, but it has been finalized for a long time now. Birdy is looking for the right time to return, and it's gonna be worth the wait as it clearly shows that this project will stand out from most of the mixtapes that hit the streets of the West Coast.

Dirty Birdy will also re-release his slept-on album "Tweet Tweet" in August. Skyline Records will put it out in conjunction with Universal, who is serving as the distributor. They signed with Universal at the end of last year, ensuring a proper and better distribution this time around. The album will have a couple new songs that he's recording right now, but the majority will stay as it is.

Dubcnn got some brand new music which will give you a little taste of what to expect from the dirt diggler. First off we got a new joint from "Volume 3" called "High and Trippin" where you have Birdy showing what it is like when he elevates his own style over this dope beat.

The second song we got is called "Dirty Words" and he's going all out showing how nasty he can get on the mic. The beat was provided by Fingazz, and this will be one of the new additions to the re-release of "Tweet Tweet".

Check out the tracks below (not in full length):

Dirty Birdy - High and Trippin
Dirty Birdy - Dirty Words (Produced by Fingazz)

news Traxamillion, Too Short & F.A.B. Go Dumb At The Sideshow - May 22, 2006 By : Nima

Who is Traxamillion you ask? He's the mastermind behind Keak Da Sneaks hit "Super Hyphy", which invaded the clubs last year, and has also been getting regular rotation on MTV amongst others.

So when you think Hyphy, think Traxamillion, aka The Slapp Addict. The man has been on his grind for a long time and with the growing mainstream presence of the Bay Area, it looks as if his time has come. "When I sit down and make my beats, I purposely make beats for the club. Even if it’s a sad beat, it’s a sad beat you can dance to. I try to make my beats in mind that one day it’ll get played on the radio.", Trax says of himself.

His next project is his debut album, entitled “The Slapp Addict”. The tentative release date is October 15th 2006, and if that sticks, you'll be sure to go dumb this fall! "The Slapp Addict" features appearances by Too Short, Keak Da Sneak, F.A.B., San Quinn, Turf Talk, Dem Hoodstarz, and many more.

His first single is called "Sideshow", and features a legend and a rising talent. Traxamillion holla'd at Too $hort himself, aswell as Oaklands Mistah F.A.B. to come rap over a slapping, heavy-bass beat.

Of course, dubcnn has the single for ya'll to listen to. Check it out below:

news Bay Area's Prophet Wants You To "Let Yourself Go" - May 17, 2006 By : Nima

Prophet has come a long way since releasing his debut "Block Venom" in 2002, which gained him some underground buzz. We brought ya'll his single "Strip For Me" (ft. Clyde Carson of The Team) a few months ago, and the homie Brooks just laced me with a new track featuring L.A. rapper Grown Mo called "Let Yourself Go".

Grown Mo goes first, and Prophet showcases his rhyming ability on the second and third verse. Download it below:

Prophet - Let Yourself Go (ft. Grown Mo)

Also be on the lookout for the remix to Prophets "When We Come Trhu" coming soon, featuring Killa Klump, which is going to be featured on "Rah Records Presents: Dope Game 4".

The song is called "Let Yourself Go" and is going to be featured on the "Rah Records Presents: Dope Game Vol. 4"

I'd also like to urge all our visitors to head over to bigvon.com to vote for Prophet in the Battlegrounds contest for his "Strip For Me" joint. Prophet is the only artist that was already in the Battlegrounds 1 contest that was also picked for the second one, so show your support.

news K-Salaam Says The World Is Ours W/ Mos Def, Rakaa & More - May 17, 2006 By : SGV

"I would like to dedicate this album to all people around the world who live in constant fear of being arrested, deported, attacked, or murdered just because of who we are." - K-Salaam

Queens, New York Producer K-Salaam is gearing up to hit the Industry and the world over the head with his infectious music filled with tons of social commentary. Along with Beatnick, the production duo's Shining Star Music, with backing from Koch, will be releasing The World Is Ours on Jully 11th. The Album is sizing up to be massive with features from Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Saigon, Rakaa Irescience of Dilated Peoples, Sizzla, Papoose, Da Backwudz, dead prez, Bobbitto and others. On top of the quote above, K-Salaam also had this to say about the project:

"I would also like to dedicate this album to all people who have had their land stolen from them, from New Orleans to Palestine. We must take it upon ourselves to learn about what is really happening around the world, rather than watching the news because we are not going to get any type of truth from watching a media broadcast that is funded by vampires...Furthermore, I would like to dedicate this album to the people who created this music and culture that is currently being raped by major corporations and record labels. The majority of people who are making big money off of hip-hop are people who have added nothing to the culture, and are not giving anything back to the communities where it originated."

These quotes, plus more, will be in the inlay of each CD. So, if you're feeling what he's saying here and would like to read more, cop the album on July 11th. Here's a few quotes from a couple of the artists on the album:

"It is a blessing to be a part of this project, to be doing something positive for the people through our music, thats what we do. The Lord would not have created the World if he didnt mean for us all to live in it peacefully. We gotta work together to make things right. We stand behind K-Salaam. The World Is Ours." - Da Backwudz

"The world belongs to the people, but it is controlled by the strongest army...through organiztion we can fully excercise our power as a people and as individuals. As individulas we have to do what we can to survive and gain position that can help the whole...THE WORLD IS OURS!" - dead prez

Here's the tracklist and 3 tracks for ya'll to preview:

01. Intro / So Much Trouble
02. Talib Kweli – “What I Feel”
03. Sizzla – “Sail On”

news Exclusive: Dogg Pound, Ice Cube Promoting + More [Pics] - May 14, 2006 By : Nima

This is history in the making! You will probably be just as surprised as I was when I heard this. Ice Cube and Daz Dillinger have been in the same circles for over a decade, but, up until this Ice Cube & Dogg Pound tour that's tearing up the States right now, the two of them had never been in the same room, let alone went on tour with each other.

Now that Ice Cube is promoting his "Laugh Now, Cry Later" album dropping June 6th, and Daz & Kurupt are promoting "So So Gangsta", "Cali Iz Active" and "Same Day, Different Shit", they've been on the grind, and hopefully we'll end up seeing some hot music coming out of it aswell.

In the process of promoting and touring, Daz also ran into 40 Glocc. As you know, they've had an on-going feud for past few years. With Kurupt serving as the middle man, the two put their differences aside and moved on. For those who don't know, Daz has also squashed his beef with JT The Bigga Figga, who was at the "Cali Iz Active" video shoot.

I have a series of pictures for ya'll, taken on tour:

Ice Cube & Daz At 100.3 The Beat in Philly, PA

Ice Cube & Daz At 100.3 The Beat Pt. 2

Daz, Kurupt, 40 Glocc, Canibus & DJ Kurupt

Daz At Sirius Sattelite Radio

Daz & Jermaine Dupri On The Set Of "It's A Daz Thang"

Daz On The Set Of "It's A Daz Thang" Pt. 2

Daz, JT The Bigga Figga & Bigg A

Bigg A

You have an idea of how the D.P.G. is doing it right now, this summer is about to be real crazy!

news Dutch, Haystak and Lexx Luger: The South-West Connection - May 14, 2006 By : Nima

White Boys can't rap? Nashville natives Haystak, Lexx Luger, and Bay Area spitter Dutch Tha Great have come together and formed the South-West Connection aka C.W.B to dismiss that point.

Some of you probably remember Dutch from the Bay Area group F.E. who dropped their highly underrated album "What We Do" a few years ago. Dutch has come a long way since, and linked up with Southerners Haystak and Lexx Luger on this project. But the C.W.B. is not just a one-album thing, it is, as they call it, "a movement".

Now numbering in the tens of thousands, the C.W.B. movement has become more than just a community to trade war stories within, but a forum – both physical and online (see whiteboyscantrap.com) - for white hip-hoppers to showcase their music in a supportive setting often not found in the broader hip-hop nation. And while this forum allows artists who might otherwise go unheard escape unfair ridicule, it also provides a haven for fans of the music and accompanying movement to commune with their social peers, whom are both in and outside the business. In 2006 it's not uncommon to see supporters of the movement who have no connection to the music industry or the group C.W.B. sporting a C.W.B. tattoo, representing their loyalty to The Dubb.ť

The "South-West Connection" album is in stores now, on Independent Day/Paid In Full/Koch Records.

Features on the album include A-Wax and Smigg Dirtee, aswell as some Southern fried flavor of Interscope Records latest signee Big Fella, Young Struggle and more. Production was handled by Lexx himself, Jody Stevens & Sonny P., Vince V and more.

I have four tracks from the album for ya'll to listen to, you can check them out below:

C.W.B. - Take Me As I Am
C.W.B. - Dope Boy
C.W.B. - Sleepless
C.W.B. - By The Bar

news Diego Redd Flips Lupe's "Kick, Push" [Audio] - May 13, 2006 By : Nima

We had a big feature on Fresno, California artist Diego Redd last month, who's been buzzing tremendously after Kanye West gave him his stamp of approval. Lupe Fiasco is also a Kanye-approved newcover who's been enjoying success with his current single "Kick, Push".

Diego Redd decided to take that song, and give it his own twist. The result is a gritty, more grimy song, with Diego Redd spilling some California realism over the throwback Hip-Hop beat. The homie Hecktik posted it on the forums, and I have it here for those who missed it:

Diego Redd - Kick, Push (Remix) (Rebel Ent)

news The Time Has Come For L.A Talent Mykestro - May 11, 2006 By : Rud

It's two years on May 28th since we introduced Mykestro to the world on dubcnn in a news article/interview with both Mykestro and his older brother and westcoast legend Battlecat. [View the article in the Archives].

When asked to describe himself he told dubcnn: "I would say I'm absolutely universal. I have alot of versitality, and definitely not what you would expect out of L.A. I come from a musical background, MC and production wise. I'm very consistent as far as lyrics go, I'm a MC!"

When asked about his influences growing up Mykestro shouts without hesitation that "Kurupt was my hero! That's my hero right there! That's who I looked up to when coming up, I always felt like he was a different type of MC, so that was my main influence from the gate. But now I listen to alot of different shit, I like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Pharaohe Monch, Ice Cube.. I like real MC's, I like Slum Village, Jigga of course, Eminem is a monster, Busta Rhymes, of course Biggie & Pac.. Yeah those are the main ones" While his big brother told dubcnn; "To me man, Mykestro is like Jay-Z and Common Sense in one... yeah he's like the mix of the two!"

Since then things have only been on the up for the artist that Tawala Sharp of KKBT Los Angeles said; "Hip-Hop is a couple, lost on a dark highway...Mykestro is the map that will set West Coast Hip-Hop back in the right direction."

Dubbed "The Best West OF The 110," Mykestro is THAT dude who is grinding hard and making his presence felt on the westcoast. His pedigree includes appearances on LPs by Snoop Dogg, countless mixtapes, and working with his older brother, the prodcution legend that is DJ Battlecat. On his debut single, Mykestro has linked with two of L.A.'s newest and brightest stars, Glasses Malone (Blu Division/Sony Music) and Bishop Lamont (Aftermath/Interscope) to deliver a record that could be a contender for CD Single & 12" of the year come December. Even rapper Big Pooh of Little Brother got nothing but love for Mykestro: "I f-cks wit Mykestro."

We have the audio from the single which is being released by ABB Records featuring Glasses Malone and Bishop Lamont with production from Terrace Martin and Diverse; cop the single to enjoy the "Raw & Uncutt" mix produced by DJ Battlecat.

Mykestro - Where You From?! (Feat. Glasses Malone) (Produced By Terrace Martin)
Mykestro - Fireman (Feat. Bishop Lamont) (Produced By Diverse)
Mykestro - Dubcnn Shoutout (2004)

We will be keeping you updated on Mykestro's debut album with news and audio as the year progresses, shouts to Mykestro, Glasses Malone, Blu Division, Bishop Lamont & ABB Records. Until then you can visit Mykestro's MySpace page to learn more about this talented youngster.

news Method Man Analyses "Things They Say" & States "Yah Mean" - May 9, 2006 By : Rud

With Wu-Tang originator Method Man releasing his last album in 2004, "Tical O: The Prequel," its apt that 2006 will see the release of his latest, as yet untitled album. As such we have some new audio that will either make the final cut or be featured on mixtapes in the build up to the release - let me assure you, Method Man still has the material to make you say "Damn!"

On the first track Things They Say" we see Method Man 'float' over a smooth melodic beat with vocals from Lauryn Hill laced between and over his verses. Whereas the second track "Yah Mean" is a heavy, speaker-shaking clap-fest which features Fat Joe & Styles P.

We will keep you updated on this album as it's shaping up to be some classic material, perhaps this album will finally see a Dr. Dre & Method Man collaboration released after "Take The Heat" was left off his album in 2004. Shouts to the Cali Untouchable DJ's & DJ Warrior on the new heat.

news Fate Williams The Female "Best Kept Secret" On The West - May 8, 2006 By : Rud

Westcoast female MC's are hard to come by, however there are plenty out there. The most well known and to many the greatest female to ever grace the MIC is The Lady Of Rage formally a Death Row recording artist. More recently Diamonique has been representing the I.E. and the coast with her mixtapes, album and shows.

Today dubcnn, as we are famed for doing, want to introduce a new talent who wishes to edge into the spotlight and into your attentions as a female force in a male dominated Hip-Hop industry.

The name of the artist in question; Fate Williams. Fate itself means an event, or course of events, that will inevitably happen in the future - could this be a sign of things to come? Well Fate believes so and is working hard to make that dream a reality. Raised in Watts she, although still only young, has already been signed to a major label some time ago where she had the opportunity to work with artists including Snoop Dogg and Juelz Santana. Having decided that she wished to finish college before actively pursuing a career in the music industry, Hip-Hop took a back seat until she completed her studies. Now she has a Bachelor's Degree in one hand and a pen and pad in the other she is ready, once again, to tackle the music industry.

As with many aspiring artists she intends to make some noise with her debut mixtape entitled "Best Kept Secret" which features the street single "Gimme My Mic" which discusses Fate Williams' off and now on again relationship with the microphone. The record sees Fate laying rhymes over an instrumental that will be familiar to many; the Easy Mo Bee beat for The Notorious B.I.G.’s "Gimme the Loot." With Biggie in mind Fate Williams informed us that in 1997 she had been introduced to The Notorious B.I.G. at a Vibe party. When Fate informed B.I.G. that she was an aspiring rap artist he agreed to meet with Fate and her brother the following day; tragically as we now know this was the event that B.I.G. was killed immediately after. Fate still possesses a picture taken with B.I.G. shortly before the Vibe party ended; now one of the last photos of him alive.

Since "Gimme My Mic" was recorded Fate has been working hard and has put together a new single with the hitmaker Dem Jointz called "Two Loverz" which catalogues exactly that, being with two lovers at once; the chorus has the soulful sample of Mary Wells' classic song of the same title. Both tracks mentioned we have available below as well as another mixtape track entitled; "The Chase"

Fate Williams - Two Loverz (Produced By. Dem Jointz)
Fate Williams - The Chase
Fate Williams - Gimmie My Mic

This is just an introduction to Fate Williams, we will be covering more news and details from her over the coming months as she gears up to release the "Best Kept Secret" mixtape. In the meantime take a moment to visit here MySpace page. To view this article as a dubcnn On The Come Up piece, click here.

Another day, another Rapper gone. Today, Houston Rap legend, H.A.W.K. was shot outside a friends home in his car. The rapper was well known and respected amongst Southern Rap fans. He was an original member of DJ Screw's (R.I.P.) Screwed Up Click. He was the older brother of Fat Pat who was gunned down in 1998. The two brothers shared a spot on the Houston posse-anthem "Wanna Be A Baller" back in 1998, just before Pat's death. H.A.W.K., most recently, was featured on Rap-A-Lot's latest signee Trae's first single "Swang" which we premiered here on Dubcnn back in March and was a tribute to his fallen brother.
