The Beatnuts, Souls Of Mischief, Aceyalone, Abstract Rude, Defari, Phil Da Agony, Self Scientific, Supernatural, Mood, DJ C-Los and others! All in one room. That's a great line up, not to be missed. news Free J.Dee! - August 27, 2004 By : SGV

If you haven't already, here is your chance to sign the petition to free J.Dee of Da Lench Mob. Here's a press release:

This cry for freedom is one I pray that doesn't go un-heard. My name is DaSean "JDee" Cooper. I am an Original Member of DA LENCH MOB, a rap group founded by Ice Cube in the 1990's.I was the lead rapper in the group for our debut Platinum release titled, "Guerillas
In The Mist."

Upon our return home from Europe in the summer of 1993, I was falsely accused, tried and convicted of murder - a crime that I and 95% of Los Angeles (including the victim's family) know that I did not commit. My trial attorney had suffered a stroke prior to my trial
and subsequently he had a mild stroke. I was denied several constitutional rights and was tried and convicted based on rap lyrics and a 911 tape recording. There was no gun, no gun shot residue, no credible eyewitness and the only compelling witness
was instructed to stay hidden until the prosecution needed her. There was ineffective assistance of counsel, jury misconduct, prosecutorial misconduct and judicial misconduct. Hearsay evidence was illegally admitted and jurors were overheard in elevators
discussing the case before it was submitted for deliberation.

There is a retired L.A. Sheriff named Herb Giron who's known me for over two decades and he conducted his own investigation and knows that I'm not the real suspect shooter and culprit. My 14th,5th and 6th Amendment, Rights were violated. And I truly believe that "Music" was placed on trial and I was convicted of being black and a "gangsta rapper". I was denied any and all Black jurors...my jury consisted of 8 whites & 4 Asian-Americans. This was in 1994 - post L.A. uprising/Rodney King beating and during the O. J. Simpson pre-trial circus. I was denied bail in a non-capital case, which was a violation of my 8th Amendment Constitutional Right.

O'Shea "Ice Cube" Jackson left me for dead due to negative publicity. The record label, East-West/Time lawyers and law students to help me prevail in this fight for freedom. I've wrote several law firms who claim to do Pro-Bono work. But no one likes rappers; especially one who's as outspoken as myself. There are plenty of Federal & State violations and I am literally throwing myself at the mercy of this law school (and/or firm) to please get involved in my fight for my life.

I've been in touch with the retired sheriff (Giron), this past Feb.2003 and he's willing to help. I've tried everything in my power and I've even located 3 new eyewitnesses who were present the night the crime was committed.

As of this writing certain artists are expressing their concerns. However, talk is extremely cheap and I'm in need of serious help. Please feel free to write me at the address below with any help or suggestions. Comments are welcomed also.

May Our Creator Bless You All! Peace!

news Big Von Interview From Xplosive Mag - August 26, 2004 By : Nima

All you Bay Area cats know Big Von through his shows on KMEL Radio. He has the infamous "On The Block" show with strictly Bay Area Hip Hop and much more. The homie C-4 from Xplosive Magazine took the time to sit down and conduct and in-depth interview with the man about the politics over at the radio stations and what it takes to get radio-play. Below is a little part of the interview, to read the full thing either pick up the new Xplosive Magazine or click here to read it on the Siccness board.

"What do you think about what gets played on the radio these days? “People always complain about the songs that get played on the radio, but if they was here all day and hear the phones ring and hear people request the sh*t, they would know. People think we sit here and think ‘let’s pick the most f**ked up song we could play, just to piss everybody off.’ NO! People seem to think that since I work inside the radio station I’m some sort of like corporate white suite type dumbf**k. NO! I’m from the same place everybody else is from, I just happen to know what goes on in here. Don’t think that I like the sh*t. I’m not a fan of a lot of the sh*t that goes on. Then you go ‘Okay this song sucks,’ but ain’t this the same song you watched on TV? Don’t blame the radio. MTV playin’ a thousand times, BET playin’ it a thousand times. He must really suck, there’s only a million people that bought his record.”"

It's a great interview, make sure to check it out!

news Jean Grae Releases 2nd Album - August 24, 2004 By : Yash

After blowing minds and whetting appetites with her first release for emerging indie heavyweight Babygrande Records, “The Bootleg of the Bootleg EP”, in October 2003, heads have been clamoring for the follow-up. September 21st sees the release of Grae’s second full length album, her first long player on Babygrande, “This Week.” Arguably the most gifted and critically well received emcee of the past five years, Jean Grae is a startlingly fresh talent. Gritty and raw, yet intelligently artistic, she has become not only an indie hip-hop icon but one of today's most promising new artists. A rising media phenomenon, all eyes are on Jean with the release of This Week . “This Week” realizes the potential fans and the industry have seen in her since the get go, providing a platform for her caustic lyricism paired with classic beats.

A prodigious talent, Grae grew up in a musical household to parents who were themselves independent jazz musicians. At age 13 Grae became the youngest person to be a part of Alvin Ailey’s second company. She also attended LaGuardia School of the Arts and Performing Arts (made famous by the show Fame). This background nurtured her creative instincts and allowed her to begin refining her rhyming and beatmaking skills. Shortly after, her crew Natural Resource was born. The group was shortlived but successful. After the crew disbanded in 1999 Grae began beating her own unique path. She guested on so many records she earned herself the title of the Cameo Queen by the underground hip hop community. It wasn't until she was asked to participate on the solo record by Mr. Len (ex Company Flow), that her skills became undeniable to a larger listening public. She followed her Len appearance up with a well-received full length, Attack Of The Attacking Things. This release confirmed to many that Grae was one of the underground’s finest talents. Fall 2003 saw the release of The Bootleg of The Bootleg EP which delivered a tantalizing glimpse of Grae’s developing artistic vision and consummate skills on the mic. It also led to the beginning of her relationship with The Roots.A short stint on the winter OkayPlayer tour turned into The Roots asking her to tour with them and be on their new record as well as inclusion on the Okayplayer spring 2004 tour. Jean is featured on The Roots recent release, The Tipping Point and will be featured on Talib Kweli's forthcoming album, Beautiful Struggle, both Geffen/Interscope Records recording artists. Jean's street-hop mixtapes and recent guest appearances/collaborations with artists such as Masta Ace, Okayplayer, The Badass Soundtrack and Babygrande's own Sharkey are have been making noise all year. (Sharkey's track Summer in the City with Jean is rapidly climbing its way to the top of the national College radio charts).

Leading off with the first single, a double A side consisting of "Goin' Crazy" b/w "U Don't Want It," produced by Midi Mafia (50 Cent), “This Week” is surrounded by the anticipation of hip-hop fans everywhere waiting for Grae to burst out of the underground and into mainstream consciousness. With heavyweight producers involved such as Midi Mafia (50 cent) and 9th Wonder (Jay-Z), this could be the record to do that.

news Domination Lashes Out At Everybody - August 19, 2004 By : Nima

New York Rapper Domination, known for his work with Ex-50 Cent affiliate Bang Em Smurf, has yet again unleashed a song where he disses everybody, from The Game, Dr. Dre, G-Unit, 50 Cent, Eminem, Jimmy Iovine, Aftermath, Interscope...

His flow is good, and he raps over the classic California Love & Can't C Me beats, but I can't help thinking that they're trying too hard to gain attention with these diss songs.

Domination states that Suge Knight choked Game at the club, and many more, often, humourus diss lines.

Listen to the song yourself below and make your own opinion:

news MC EIHT New Album Sept 28th!!! - August 18, 2004 By : Nima

“You don’t have to go to L.A. to get your MC Eiht,” Lloyd Banks contended on his debut album, Hunger For More, which entered the Billboard pop chart at Number One. Banks’ assertion on his madly successful album keenly demonstrates how deeply it is ingrained within hiphop consciousness that MC Eiht is known as being the streets’ ultimate spokesperson for the West Coast. Period.

As signified by the title of Eiht’s new album, Veterans Day, slated for release on September 28, Eiht is one of the true O.G.’s of L.A. hiphop, a true veteran of the ghetto, emerging in 1989, with the debut release from Comptons Most Wanted, It’s A Compton Thang. Coming into the game, Eiht rolled along side Tha Chill, their luminary scratcher DJ Mike T and producers Slip and DJ Unknown. Cited as a select musical inspiration for producer/director John Singleton’s classic film, Boyz In The Hood, the group’s single, “Growin’ Up In The Hood” was picked as the single for the film. Eiht’s releases with CMW, Straight Check’n Em and Music To Driveby quickly became West Coast underground classics. Eiht, who has graced the cover of the Source Magazine twice, appeared in the Hughes Brothers’ feature film Menace II Society, and also achieved critical acclaim for his indelible single, “Streiht Up Menace,” which appeared on the film’s multi-platinum selling soundtrack, which held the Number One spot on the Billboard Top 100 R&B Albums Chart for eight weeks. We Come Strapped, which quickly achieved gold status, created controversy for its no holds barred attack on racist police officers, and was eventually attacked in a speech by then Presidential candidate Bob Dole. Rolling Stone Magazine was among the media outlets that joined in the frenzy to address the fact that Eiht’s record label, Epic Records, felt compelled to issue an extra warning sticker on the disc, which stated that Eiht’s lyrics were not necessarily the opinions of the Sony label.

Eiht released Death Threatz and Last Man Standing, officially ending his time with Epic, and then he signed with Priority, releasing Underground Hero, Section 8 and N My Neighborhood. Always in demand, he has accepted numerous offers to record duets on albums released by other artists, a few of which include Spice 1, Scarface and Pete Rock, but now he’s back on the solo tip with a new album, Veterans Day.

Eiht comes back for the kill with his new album, Veterans Day, released by West, Inc. Records though Native Records with distribution by Ryko’s Penalty Associated Labels. Again, as noted by the album’s title, Eiht is reveling in the light of a long career that has garnered him sheer respect from the streets, as well as countless props from other artists. On Tupac Shakur’s birthday this year, L.A.’s KWPR 106 FM re-broadcast the interview during which Pac stated that when he was in prison at Dannemora, he fervently listened to MC Eiht’s music. When Ludicris broadcast his video countdown on MTV, he opened it up with Eiht’s “Streiht Up Menace.” To Eiht, these were not just props---they were omens. “All of this just told me I needed to be working on putting an album out, to keep going. I had done some projects that were just to keep my name out there, but I realized this year that I really wanted to do a significant album, which will actually be my very first since being in the Priority situation.” Despite his heavy reputation in the hiphop world, Eiht acknowledges, “To some people, this will be my first solo album, because they weren’t around for my prior releases, and to them, this will be my first album.”

The production on Veterans Day was done by Tha Chill, who has also recently recorded tracks for Snoop Dogg’s 213. There is one exception, and that is the track, “Some Of These Thugs,” produced by Prodeje of South Central Cartel.

>From its provocative intro, “Vetz Day,” Eiht takes the listener into the streets with him. He potently explains of the album’s opening, “It’s the national anthem, but this version is our national anthem, for those that can relate to it. It’s national throughout ghettos everywhere. You’ll listen to it, and you’ll say, ‘That’s real what he’s saying there,” referring to the police violence, the people, my generation, and he’s trying to make a point.”

Among the album’s tracks is “Gangsta Smash,” which Eiht describes as “a gangsta groove song. It’s just telling gangstas to mash to this groove."

“It’s Alright” deals with the problems and struggles going on with males and females as they hustle up and do what they need to do to keep food on the table.

Being a true vet, “We Made It 2004” derives from a song CMW did on their first album. Eiht says, “We had a clean version, a radio version on that album, so we recreated it here. We made it a street version for 2004.”

Words from the wise, “Nobody Beat Us,” says Eiht, is a Biz Markie remake. “Like nobody beats the business,” pontificates Eiht, but I’m saying that nobody beat us. I’m using old school sounds on this record, using a little Biz Markie and UTFO. I think people will like this cut that features people from my era who started out with early hiphop.” It has a bit of an East Coast feel to it. It’s all West music again, however, when Eiht returns with “Streets Don’t Love You,” which Eiht describes as “more steered towards classic Eiht, CMW music. It’s that old Barry White that we’re known for. CM-Dub is known for heavy Isaac Hayes, the Meters, stuff like that. I was thinking of veteran shit, old school shit, trying to do something significant, so people would say, ‘That’s classic Eiht right there.’ It’s explaining the circumstances that we live in today.”

“I speak for the people on the streets and the underground,” notes Eiht. “I try to keep my music on that level. I don’t deal with how much money there is, or how much it’s going to cost to get a chick that is a celebrity. I can’t talk about people in Compton riding around in Bentleys and going to the clubs, messing with models. We don’t even have any clubs in Compton. My music is about being in the neighborhood, being around real people, who are stuck in the struggle of doing whatever they be doing, every day jobs, dope dealing, trying to take care of their families.”

He adds, “A lot of guys never get a chance to do what I’ve been doing, but I still stay true to where I started, still being able to connect with folks. That’s why I feel I can touch a lot of people.”

You don’t have to go to L.A. to get your MC Eiht, because instead, you can go to the nearest place where there’s a record store, and get a copy of Veterans’ Day. Geah.

news 50 Cent and G Unit Show! - August 18, 2004 By : Yash

When I first arrived backstage they told us digital cameras and videocameras were forbidden. Even the tv station in Sweden wasn't allowed to film or take pictures..
After a few hours of waiting 50 Cent and G-unit showed up,
they had cleared the backstage area and all backup artists were moved into this big tent or was forced to sit around the taped area so they wouldn't be able to speak to 50 Cent and crew when they arrived.
My friend from Kingsize magazine was with me and he did a interview with them the day before after signing a 20 page contract he spoke to them for a few minutes without cameras etc.
Youngbuck had been without weed for a few days and all he kept asking him was "can you please get some weed".

Anyways I had spoken to Youngbuck about hooking up so when he saw me in the tent he sent his bodyguard and got me. I went back and met 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks and Youngbuck.
I'll just put it like this he was so happy about Yash gettin him some of that sticky icky that he gave me the hotel room nr with a big smile on his face:)

The Game wasn't there and Tony Yayo had a restraining order so he couldn't leave the country.

They smoked some chronic and headed up the stage to do the show.
50 started with ”What up gangsta”, ”Wanksta” and ”21 questions" in a fastpase tempo then came his biggest hit "In Da Club" and the 10 000+ crowd went crazy.
After 15-20 minutes 50 Cent started doing G-Unit songs then Lloyd Banks did "On Fire" with crazy fire effects.
Youngbuck later did a few songs from his upcoming album.
I was surprised that most of the people knew the lyrics to "Let Me In". Because they haven't played that song in scandinavia that much. After each song they performed they ended with a Gunshot that Dj Whoo Kid is famous for in his mixtapes.
50 Cent finnished up with "If I Can't" and a few other solos.
He stopped the music took off his cap and threw it out and told the crowd I gotto give yall something to remember me by then took off his new G Unit Boots and threw those out aswell which unfortunately hit one girl in the head and knocked her unconcious for a few minutes. He even dropped his diamond ring while he threw stuff out but they later found and gave it back to him.

After the show I went to the hotel where we where planning to do a few interviews. Now that The Game and Yayo wasn't there I was thinking of doing a interview with just 50 Cent but he was so tired so he went to his room and slept.

So I took Youngbuck and his peoples to the club called KB in Malmo. Oh boy we had a great time partying we even went on stage got Youngbuck a mic and he rocked the club and tookover the Dj's job.

Youngbucks new album has been pushed back and he has recorded new songs that will replace some of the ones that were leaked to the internet.
Youngbuck was one of the nicest most humble people i've ever kicked it with too bad the people in his security and entourage was straight assholes to people in general.

We will post a 50 Cent Interview which my boy from Kingsize magazine did later this month. So be on the lookout for that and make sure you go out and cop Youngbuck's album "Straight Outta Cashville" BOOOOOW!

news 213 On Power 106 This Morning - August 18, 2004 By : Nima

While the rap world is still shocked at 213's "Tha Hard Way" album not having a single Warren G produced track, the trio is busy promoting the record that dropped this tuesday in stores worldwide.

They made a quick appearance on Big Boy's Morning Show and played alot of songs from the record and announced a second 213 album in the making. Seeing as they took 10 years for the first one, I wonder when the 2nd one will drop!

Anyway, they announced Nate Dogg's solo album coming out next year, and it will feature the song Dolla Dolla Bill, that once was supposed to be the lead single to 213. Warren G mentioned that he is gonna focus on producing now, and that he's teaming up with his old group the 5 Footaz again.

You can go cop the record in stores now, and catch Snoop on tour with Linkin Park and KoRn.

I have had the opportunity to listen to both the Riflemen and his solo album, and they are THE SHIT, without exagerating. Jayo Felony delivers and amazing performance on both records, two of my most anticiapted records of the year.

In other Riflemen news, 40 Glocc has been in the studio this week with RBX and Kokane working on his 2nd solo album, the follow up to his HIGHLY underrated debut The Jakal. We will put up pictures from the studio sessions tomorrow.

news Pioneer Hip Hop Journalist Unleashes New Book - August 17, 2004 By : Nima

YinSumi Press, the worlds first publishing house dedicated to documenting the political and social aspects of the Hip Hop sub-culture, in conjunction with www.lyricalswords.com, is proud to announce the release of Adisa Banjoko's highly anticipated book "Lyrical Swords Vol. 1: Hip Hop and Politics in the Mix" on November 2nd 2004. Edited by journalist Ali Asadullah, "Lyrical Swords" is a collection of essays and interviews on Hip Hop culture, politics and social issues written over the last decade. Hip Hop cultures political effect has been a highly discussed topic in this Presidential election year.

While new to most of America, this arena has been Adisa's stomping ground for over 15 years. "I was raised in my early days politically by my parents" says Mr. Banjoko. "In my young adult years I was raised poltically by panthers, rebellious artists, poltical activists and urban educators in my world. This book, is a cliff note of that journey."

Pioneer Hip Hop journalist, Adisa Banjoko, hails from the San Francisco Bay Area. His articles have graced the pages of The Source, The Harvard Hip Hop Archive, XXL, Vibe, Yoga Journal, Grappling, Daveyd.com, Rapstation.com, Pacific News Service, and Allhiphop.com among others. His book "Lyrical Swords" features intervews and essays with some of Hip Hop's greatest icons including Russell Simmons, Q-Tip, Everlast, Martial Arts Legend Royce Gracie, Paris, Mystic, Dilated Peoples Rakaa, Encore, Shamko Noble, Shaolin Monk Shi Yan Ming, and many others. He is easily one of the most respected, hated and loved people in the Hip Hop community.

Under the pen name ᶴThe Bishop of Hip Hopᶴ, Adisa Banjoko has entertained and educated many on Hip Hop culture, Eastern philosophy, Martial Arts, Islamic culture, and African American social issues. Host of the critically acclaimed One Mic Radio show, his poltically charged antics got him swiflty removed from the wickedly conservative 910 AM KNEW which host radio personalities such as Mike Savage and Bill O'rielly. "I knew I was doing something right, when they booted us", Adisa laughs. Nevertheless, his online support grew globally. Downloadable at www.lyricalswords.com, it has proven to be a core bridge between the Hip Hop and Political realms. Past guests include Presidential Candidate Al Sharpton, WMD Insp. Scott Ritter, Warren G, Jackie O, Paris, MC Lyte, Daz Dillenger, DJ QBert, T-La Rock and Wu-Tang Clan's Masta Killa.

Mr. Banjoko㙠s knowledge has earned him countless invitations to lecture at prestigious universities such as Harvard University, Stanford University, U.C. Berkeley, U.C. Santa Cruz and San Francisco State, just to name a few. He has shared the stage with political and cultural icons such as S.F. Mayor Willie Brown, civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, Presidential Candidate Dennis Kucinich, Hip Hop pioneer Afrika Bambataa, rap legend Chuck D, and pioneer b-boy Crazy Legs. "I'm trying to get the young people of the world to arm themselves mentally and politically. On November 2nd after you go to the polls, vote for yourself and get 'Lyrical Swords'. I'm gonna be touring the continental U.S. the next few months. I'll be walking all over the streets of the Bay, LA, NY, the ATL and Philly with these books. Wherever people are getting boxed outta the game by these snakes and fakes, I'm gonna be handing out these swords to libirate minds."

People looking for a glimpse of "the swords" can go to www.lyricalswords.com (designed by graf legend Scape Martinez) and get 3 complimentary chapters of the book sent to them via email.

news DubCNN & Enexes - The Movement - August 2, 2004 By : Nima

We all know West Coast Hip Hop has been strugglin' to get exposure for the past couple of years. This musical slump might have many different reasons, it might be the artists not putting out top notch music, or the industry intentionally blackballing the West Coast...

One thing's for sure though, we want this to change. And this is why DubCNN, the West Coast News Network, is teaming up with Enexes, your Entertainment Gateway. Together, we're going to start a new movement, and it's in motion as we speak. The A&R of Enexes, Frank Nitty, who many of you might know as THE man behind everything going on on the West Coast, is recruiting an army of soldiers, hungry to record new music. Not just the same shit you've been hearing over and over. But some FRESH music.

Dileone, the CEO of Enexes.com, is backing the movement by providing us with the studio, where Goldie Loc from Tha Eastsidaz has eagerly been recording for the past few months along with the legendary Chocolate and many more. I'm not going to disclose too much about the new projects, as it's still in the beginning stages, but we will be having regular updates, right here on DubCNN.com, so stay tuned.

Now on to the alliance between Enexes and DubCNN. We're taking HipHop on the internet to the next level. If you aren't hip to Enenex yet, hit up www.enexesartists.com and check it out. If you're an independent artist and are trying to get cracking on the internet, this is for you. Enexes offers you a website, including store and everything. With the Enexes profile, everybody can know who you are, what you do or what you're trying to do, with just a few clicks. And they will be able to buy your music, right there.

This is new age promotion. You control it, not a label. And that's how it's supposed to be. We're going to give you a more indepth view on the future developments, so make sure to check back right here on DubCNN real soon.

I know we've been kinda slow with the updates and interviews in the past few weeks, but believe me, you're not prepared for what's about to come. I'm not even gonna spoil it for you, just sit back and watch, DubCNN is gonna bring you more than just news and interviews on the West Coast. We're gonna have it in a way where you're going to feel like you're RIGHT THERE, watching every step of what's happening of the West Coast, wether you live in Australia, Japan, Russia, New York, or in L.A.

It's about to be big, oh boy!

news Projekt Revolution Tour - August 1, 2004 By : SGV

The Rap/Rock Tour started just over a week ago and is still going strong. Featuring Linkin Park, Korn, Snoop Dogg, Less Than Jake and The Used on the mainstage. With acts such as Ghostface, M.O.P., Downset and others on the second stage, titled the "Revolution Stage." If you're not ready to get hype, this is NOT the tour for you. High energy seems to be the theme for most of the tour. Peep it when it hits your town, if it hasn't already.
