1097012913 - January 1, 1970 By : Friday October 1st found the Malibu Inn being invaded by the Project Blowed and other West Coast Underground acts. Big shouts to Brian Lewis & Juda Starr for putting on the show. Thanks for lacing your boy with some VIP acess. I got you on anything you need homie. Now, back to the show.
I showed up with LatinaBeatz(from this site, with her fine ass. LOL.) and her cousin, about half way into the first set. The first group up was 7th Sign. Seen them before, real dope group. Didn't get any pics though. They are actually a 7-8 person squad, including a drummer, but this night they only had 5 people. Not sure why. Nonetheless, I suggest peeping them out here. Preview their album on CDBaby.com. Their emcees are very powerful and don't follow that usual Compton sound. Very dope group who are yet to get the attention they deserve. They have a singer, a Reggaeton artist, male emcees, female emcees, the works. A real eclectic group with a real crazy sound and great message. Now, they're not on some preachy shit, but they're socially concious, and all of them can spit it hot. Watch for more on them here in the coming weeks. On to the next act.
Hailing from the Northside of Long Beach is the Project Blowedians Da Mon Star Mob. I've also brought them up before on the site during a few of my reviews, these cats are SERIOUS. Skarekrow on the beats, and let me tell you, this boy is a problem. He's got some of the illest beats I've heard in a minute. Jul Unique, L-Swift & Onslaught are very dope emcees, I might add, as well. They all have mad energy and spit heat for the streets and the clubs. I got a couple videos of their performance so you can see for yourself. I'll be dropping that in the coming time. I'm for sure gonna bring a lot more info on this group. They're being slept on, but it's time to change all that. They got an album dropping and another one coming sooner than you think. Check out their official website.
Next up, more Blowed members, Customer Service. This is an 8 man squad, but they only had 6 members with them. They all looked rather young, but all controlled the mic well. This group is truely breaking down the color lines, so to say, we find in Hip Hop today. They got cats of all colors and creeds and cultures in their group. I had heard their name before, but I've never seen them. I enjoyed their set. They have fun with Hip Hop, but keep it in it's purest form. But, if you're a close minded person who only wants gangsta shit, they may not be for you. Anyway, the entire crew has some real good energy. I enjoyed their set. I'll also be bringing info on them. If you don't frequent the Project Blowed events on Thursdays, you can keep up with the crew on their Official site or their page on Myspace also. Look for a video of some of their perfomance coming soon.
Now don't sleep on this next emcee. He's one of THE illest on the West Coast, hell, he's one of the illest in all of Hip Hop. I don't give a fuck, I'm big uppin' him like that. Trenseta is NOT for play. On the mic he's a beast. He's cocky, but he backs it up. He has witty punchlines, but DO NOT confuse him for a punchline emcee. Tren comes with depth, real lyrics and a great live show. On stage, he's no different that he is on CD. Anyone who heard his Uncut Vol. 1 mixtape will know what I mean. Unfortunately, my camera started acting up during his performance, I was only able to get a few pictures and the video cut off. Not to worry, I'll be bringing the scoop on Tren and his Urban Legendz crew, soon.
Planet Asia. What else is there to say? A Legend. An amazing emcee. One of the greats out here. His live show is a must see. He comes out solo. No hype man, which is a major plus. He gets the crowd very hype. He performed some old cuts and did a lot of new shit. He even treated us to a cut off his up coming Mixtape. It was tight as hell. I got it on tape and I'll be bringing that exclusively to ya'll here. Also, during his set, Asia pointed out legendary Hip Hop producer Battlecat(shouts to BC!) in the crowd. He mentioned that he and Cat will be collabing, so be on the look for that. It's gonna be major. One of the illest producers with one of the illest emcees, can't wait. Also, don't forget, As is doing a full album with Evidence of Dilated Peoples. He's working hard, so support the man damn it!
To close the show, you had the leader of the Project Blowed, Aceyalone. As always he puts on a great show, going through classics and new material. Just as with the rest of the acts, I got some video of his performance. You'll just have to keep checking back for that. It's gonna be off the hook. Ace ended his set by bringing up a bunch of emcees who performed and they all started freestyling, in classic Project Blowed fashion. Cats from Customer Service and other Blowedians like Non-Stop went up and busted. Even Planet Asia joined in on the fun. Great way to end a great show. I'll be keeping ya'll informed on the Blowed as well, too. All the artists.
Here are some pictures to keep you occupied until I get the videos ready.

1102928260 - January 1, 1970 By : The homies over at Ground Up got some new heat they wanted me to let ya'll check out.
Ground Up Records is the newest and hottest label on the West Coast. It's home of Logic, Manson, E-Nuff, Scan, Swiss Cash and Juan Jones.
Ground Up was founded in October of 2003. It's the perfect name for the label considering that the CEO Donald Johnson ran his company operations from his Navy paycheck. He runs Ground Up Records like his mentors Damon Dash (Roc-a-Fella Records), Russell Simmons (DEF JAM), and Lyor Cohen (Warner Brothers). He studies his mentors blueprints for success and applies them to his record label. On top of running an up and coming record label he serves in the United States Navy, he is stationed in Ventura CA and has been in the Navy for 5 years.
Jason Strother is the Company General Manager and Don will always say “Jason is a genius and is smarter then I am on a lot of industry topics.” The first artist signed to Ground Up was Logic. The West is really thriving for an artist with Logic's style, charisma and lyrical prowess. Some of the West Coast hottest artists have reached out to record with him; artists like Knoc-Turnal, Spitfiya, Planet Asia, Tha Relatives, Techneic (Dynamis Certified) and many others have took notice to what’s going to be the biggest label and artist on the West Coast. Major labels have already showed interest in Ground Up and Logic such as Ballr Records, Def Jam (East) and Interscope Records. His album will be hitting the streets soon and is yet to be titled but is sure going to give the West an extra platinum plaque. Logic was signed with the now shutdown Rawkus Records when he was 18 years old and since has been ripping MC’s and amazing every A&R at every Major Label and now, teamed with Donald Johnson, he is set for stardom and is going to be a major part in the resurrection of the Left Coast. Ground Up will be Logic's home forever just like every other artist on Ground Up as every artist is real serious and committed to the Ground Up emblem. Logic states “If it wasn’t for Don getting me back rapping none of this that is happening and is going to happen in the future would be possible.”
The next MC’s that signed to Ground Up was Manson and Juan Jones. Jones is currently serving a bid in the California correctional facility in Taft California but will be out next year. Manson is a versatile rapper that started rapping when he was eleven years of age; him, Logic and Spitfiya (Next Up Interscope) formed a group named “Dot Com." Manson's voice tells a story like no other rapper that graced the mic before. His songs tells a story that will give you chills and before you get to cold he will have you dancing with his tongue spitting lyrics. Manson, just like all of the Ground Up artists, will go down in history in hip-hop. His album “The Gemini” is going to be slated for later on this year and is going to be one of the best albums ever on the West Coast.
The next artist on the roster was a CEO pick, and that is Scan. Scan caught the attention of Don while freestyling at the Spitfiya video shoot. It took six months for Don and Spitfiya to put a tap on the streets of Compton, Watts, Gardena, Inglewood and neighboring cities to find the mystery MC. Once found, Scan has not disappointed his label mates or even more importantly his hard to please label exec. He spits hard and his lyrics are off the charts. Scan brings to Ground Up raw lyrics layered on top of cleverness. He has worked with many top producers and his album is slated for later in the year.
E-Nuff is the official left hand of Ground Up. His voice, lyrics and delivery will make him one of the greatest MC’s ever to come out on the Left Coast. He's been rapping since he was nine years of age and has been improving on every bar. E-Nuff was brought to Don by Manson and Logic and has been amazing the CEO ever since his first bar. His album is under development and will be coming out next year.
Last by not least is Swizz Cash; he is the newest member of the Ground Up classic roster of MC’s. He was just recently released for jail and is excited to work with the label. He rapped side by side with the rest of the Dot Com family that consist of Logic, Manson and Spitfiya (Interscope). He'll bring the streets and the nightlife of the West Coast on wax and will keep you on your toes with his delivery and versatility.
The Ground Up roster is full of talent that is going to explode on the West Coast. Each of the artists are lyricist and the average age is only twenty one so Ground Up will be around for a long time to come.--Tha Schizo WWW.WESTSIDERAP.COM
I have four cuts for ya'll to check out below, so make sure you peep them, these cats got some serious heat!!
Logic - What It Do (ft. Spitfiya)
Scan - Let 'Em Go (ft. Logic & Spitfiya)
Logic - Sup Crip, Sup Blood
Manson - Wake Up
Enjoy the songs, and look for much more coming from Ground Up in near future!

1112834566 - January 1, 1970 By : Mill Ticket Entertainment presents: The ultimate Mixtape, "It's A Problem Volume 1" with Wallet, Kontroverse, K.Dot, Dubb and Kapp featuring special appearances by Kurupt, Lil' Jon, 40 Glocc and Young Ron.
The Rap game has never experienced true problems until now. "It's A Problem, Volume 1" is a title that is truly self explanatory. No artist has caused this much chaos on one Mixed Tape. On April 12, 2005, this 24 track mixtape will include 3 bonus Southern Inspired "Screwed and Chopped" songs, which will force everybody to take note to the competition that is about to raise the bar in Hip Hop. Wallet, Kontroverse, K.Dot, Dubb, and Kapp prove that the game has been taken over. With production by T.I.T.O, Flow, Ivan, Dow Jones (Roscoe P. Coldchain/Star Trak), J.Gambit (Rass Kass, Scipio), Da Rock (Memphis Bleek, LL Cool J) and Ramone-Golden Boy Music (J Boog, LIL Fizz, Guy), Bionik(Stat Quo, Slimm Calhoun) this mixtape is sure to bring a revolutionized view of music. "It's a Problem, Volume 1" provides the listener with special appearances by some of Hip Hops biggest influences. One of the West Coasts own forefathers, Kurupt, The South's creator of Crunk Music, Lil Jon, the Source Magazines Unsigned Hype 40 Glocc and new emerging artist Young Ron all make unforgettable appearances that will definitely cause new problems.
The songs "Murder by Numbers" and "What?" already have the underground rap scene buzzing about this upcoming sound. Three title tracks, "Uh Oh," "Heat" and "On the Street", have been Chopped and Screwed to change the dynamics of the original lyrics and beat of the song. Chopped and Screwed music originates from Down South, made popular by DJ Screw(R.I.P.!). It's a slower version of a regular paced song. "This causes the song to have more length, changes the format without changing the actual message and lets the listener vibe to the bass line of the track," Mill Ticket Entertainment CEO, E. Mills, explained. This type of music has yet to be attempted by an East or West Coast artist and "It's A Problem, Volume 1" brings a small taste to listeners who may be completely blind to this style of music, which is the next big thing in hip hop. You haven't experienced a problem until you've heard "It's a Problem, Volume 1."

As high school friends it was only a matter of time before they opted to join forces to create a new group, The Doty Boys. After rocking crowds in their hometown of Hawthorne, CA the two L.A. natives took their musical talents nationwide on a variety of car show tours such as Hot Import Nights, Import Revolution and Import Showoff. These shows gave Melloe Won and Moe Moe the opportunity to become seasoned performers and create a huge following on the import car scene.
Now the two performers are embarking on conquering the world with their new and refreshing music and it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the world outside the import scene acknowledge that these young men are destined for great things. 1144769943 - January 1, 1970 By : Last year we introduced you to an artist on the westcoast by the name of Melloe Won who was grinding hard as part of the group The Doty Boys. Since we initially brought him to the attention of dubcnn readers he made the biggest noise on the internet when we exclusively premiered a track of his with Dr. Dre, Nate Dogg and Snoop Dogg - a track that countless DJ's, websites and outlets edited and called a "Detox" teaser track which was utter rubbish. The Snoop & Nate verses were new as was the Dr. Dre production however his verse featured on Nate Dogg's "Your Wife" track in 2001. The track, as we originally stated was given to Melloe Won for his mixtape; "The Next On The West Vol. 1". The track we premiered was: There They Go.
Since then he has been working hard touring across the country as part of the DUB Magazine Car Show where he has performed with countless mainstream artists including Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Slim Thug and many more. He often has the pleasure of Vida Guerra for company too - its a hard life! To view some of the footage and pictures from those shows check out Dub Magazine or visit his Official Site.
With the year now in full effect he gave dubcnn a call and asked us to premiere some new music that will be on his latest mixtape; "The Next On The West Vol.2" which drops at the end of this month. We have a new track which features fellow memeber of The Doty Boys, Moe Moe laced by Dem Jointz as well as a second which sums up his message; "Im Back"
Melloe Won - We Gets Busy (Feat. Moe Moe) (Produced By. Dem Jointz)
Melloe Won - Im Back (Produced By. Marshall Law)
Stay tuned to dubcnn for more news and audio from Melloe Won and remember to visit his Official Site to order the mixtape when its released at the end of this month.

1144912409 - January 1, 1970 By : Born an raised in Plainfield, NJ, TM was the victim of a torrid childhood; aside from bullying in school he tragically, before the age of 3, lost his sister. Fast forward to present day and TM is trying to find a way out of the struggle to help his mother with rent and to ensure the life that so far sees him awaiting a trial, changes.
Enter: Hip-Hop. In a short space of time TM has been making moves in the mixtape community.
He has been on a mixtape with Techneic's group Dynamic Certified, Shortyo's mixtape and he is looking to feature on the second "New West Attitude Mixtape" - as he states; think of me as NJ's El Dorado Red - working hard with westcoast talent such as Livewire, Balance, Dynamic Certified, Eastwood, Jayo Felony & City Boy. Aside from that he and some artists from Plainfield have formed a group called Get Right; Trigga, Wawa, Chase, Young C & E-Dot make up the collective with beats provided by Tone Clutch.
TM is currently putting the finishing touches to his mixtape; "Now Or Neva", hosted by DJ L-Gee, an official BWS & BumSquad DJ. We will have news and audio from the mixtape later this month however for now this is just an introduction. Below we have two tracks from TM both mixtape cuts; one of which "My Life" is over the Eminem production from the Tupac single "Ghetto Gospel" which sees TM poor out his heart about his life. The other is a cut with Stat Quo, Shortyo & City Boy called "Im'a Bang"
TM - Im'a Bang (Feat. Stat Quo, Shortyo & City Boy)
TM - My Life (Over "Ghetto Gospel")
Stay tuned to dubcnn for the next update from TM with audio featuring Balance; until then enjoy the music and drop your thoughts at the forum.

1149329457 - January 1, 1970 By : Tonight, a select few got to witness history in the making. Omar Cruz announced that he would be the first artist off of BYI Entertainment (and partners Mr. Cartoon and Estevan Oriol of Joker Brand/SA Studios) since the label inked a 50/50 Deal with Geffen and industry super-power Interscope Records. To make it real official, Tom Pununzio of Geffen and Jimmy Iovine of Interscope were in the house co-signing O Dot, LuLu, Rome and the whole BYI heavily. Also in the house for this event was one of the illest producers out right now, period Javie Lopez; Long Beach native Crooked I; Sen Dog of the legendary Cypress Hill; Skinhead Rob of Expensive Taste/Soul Assassins Family; VA's DJ Noe Dout and others all showing love and support for Omar Cruz and BYI.
Back in late 2004, I introduced ya'll to a name that was randomly heard around the L.A. underground scene and to a label that was a virtual unknown at the time. A year and a half later and they've done a complete 180. This has been a long time coming for an artist like Omar Cruz and a label like BYI. They've made it this far with little to no major affiliation in the Rap world. O Dot now has the blessings of big-wigs Jimmy Iovine and Tom Pununzio, not to mention, a Hip Hop legend like Dr. Dre giving personal advice. All those who had doubts about whether O.Cruz was really signing to a major should be feeling real stupid right now. This was no Publicity Stunt, O.Cruz and BYI did it and they did it big.
The event was nothing but smiles and good times. Drinks and food (Tacos, Taquitos and more direct from Tito's Tacos) were on the house. Mr. Cartoon brought the lowriders out. DJ Noe Dout was spinning the hot shit (including the up coming mixtape from Omar Cruz The Cruzifixion, which, in my opinion, blows his other two mixtapes, and they were extremely hot to begin with, out the water). As I stated before, we'll be bringing you the up to date news and on this historical event. We've been your number one spot for O.Cruz and BYI news for a hot minute, now others are trying to catch up, but they're still falling short. This is just a wrap up report of what went down tonight. We got some exclusive Photo's and an exlcusive video that only the people the party got to see. But, as we always do here... we bringing it to ya'll on here courtesy of BYI!
Lastly, here's a little audio clip of Mr.Cartoon and Omar Cruz talking about the deal and giving their thanks to all those who made it possible. The audio maybe a bit high, so do not have your speakers too loud right off the bat.
Mr. Cartoon & Omar Cruz Talk About The I/G/A Deal
It's BYI BITCH! Check back tomorrow for more. Accept no substitutes!

1149528448 - January 1, 1970 By : It’s official Powerhouse labels like Interscope/Geffen are signing Latinos! On June 2nd, 2006, Omar Cruz announced to the world that he would be the first artist to release a record on BYI Entertainment, now that the label got a 50/50 deal with Interscope/Geffen. For anyone disappointed that he didn’t sign with Dr. Dre (though BYI has a deal with the same people giving Aftermath a deal), the Doc has been and will be close to O Dot giving him personal advice. To celebrate their signing, the Westside’s pride and joy, Omar Cruz, knocked out 14 banging tracks for his DJ Skee hosted “Album before the Album,” The Cruzifixion.
With beats from in-house Producers ROME(10 tracks) and Javie Lopez (2 tracks), O snatched up a beat from Julian Bunetta, who produced for Hush; as well as another producer, by the name of Xtreme. With all original tracks, this could be considered a Street Album, more so than a Mixtape. Keeping the features to a minimum, O Dot only uses family as the guests on Cruzifixion. Javie Lopez’ artist Raw Deal (whom we introduced here and will have more on soon) drops the hook on “My World”. BYI’s in house singer J.Ortez lends his vocals on two tracks (“We Right Here” & “Let’s Go (The Show)”). Lastly, O’s right hand man, Merzevelli hops on “Cops Gang Bang,” and is the only other person to have a verse on the entire street album, outside of O.Cruz.
We have two tracks for you to check out, which you may have heard but have not been able to download. As usual, we got the exclusives for you. In the tracklist you’ll find the L.A. anthem “We Rydaz.”
“We pump that soft and that hard like we El Debarge to the beat of the rhythm of the City Of Gods”
We then have “Cops Gang Bang” featuring Merzevelli. The ominous ROME beat and a “Screwed Up” O.Cruz voice sample set the serious tone for this ode to crooked cops.
“Walk with me so you can see how these LAPD muthafuckas is living so dirty, some of ‘em claim hoods, some of ‘em still ride, some of ‘em is movin’ birdies”
Check these tracks out in the Tracklisting and head over to BYIEntertainment.com to order this Street Album on Tuesday, June 6th, 2006 (6-6-6).

1159030091 - January 1, 1970 By : In August we dropped Mikkey's controversial street single "Liquor Store" here on Dubcnn. Arab store owners aren't too happy with the content and have "banned all Mikkey Halsted's music from all their JB's and Collection Stores, which are all located in the hood and supported by black people."
It all started when DJ Sean Mac put "Liquor Store" on his mixtape last month. The owners of Collection banned his cd after hearing "Liquor Store" and have subsequently banned any mixtapes which feature Mikkey in any shape or form.
In a press release Mikkey states the following:
"Now the Arab stores are known for selling mixtapes in the hood and have never had a problem with us degrading ourselves and talking about killing each other, but the minute we put the flashlight on them, they ban us. Why, when we have been the ones putting food on their table with our hard earned money."
"I didn't intend to alienate all Arabs with that song, I just wanted to paint an accurate picture of what's really going on in OUR hood to provoke thought, letting black people know that we don't have to support those that do not have our best interest at hand. I had no beef with the Arab clothing store owners because I didn't think it applied to them, but obviously they think it does. Therefore, I say that I have no problem with any Arab that respects our people and treats them with the same dignity that they treat their OWN with. However, I say ---- YOU TO ALL YOU BLOODSUCKING ARABS THAT HAVE DONE NOTHING BUT LEACH OFF OF OUR COMMUNITY FOR THE LONGEST AND TREAT US LIKE SHIT. I HAVE NO RESPECT FOR YOU AND NO LOVE. I WILL NEVER SHOP WITH YOU AGAIN FOR ATTEMPTING TO BAN AND CENSOR THE TRUTH. U WILL ---- AROUND AND GET BANNED FROM OUR COMMUNITY. As the last line in the song says, "I KNOW YOU THINK THAT WE STUPID, AND U FEEL LIKE WE CLOWNS, BUT WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO SHUT YA ASS DOWN!!!!!"

1177931762 - January 1, 1970 By : Although featured in countless updates as a feature or a name referenced by another artist, Jay Rock has not as yet been a mainstay on dubcnn. That changed last week when staff member Eddie Gurolla caught up with the man himself at the Rimac Arena in San Diego, CA.
Hailing from Watts, California, rap sensation Jay Rock is being groomed to dominate the West Coast rap scene. His powerful single "Lift Me Up" is currently in heavy rotation on Los Angeles’s number one radio station, Power 106.
After grinding hard to get his name out to the public and opening up for stars like (DJ) Quik, The Game and Slim Thug, Jay Rock is ready to step into the spotlight.
His debut album, "Follow Me Home," due out July 10th, is what Jay Rock describes as "a straight, real ghetto album." The CD, coming out on Warner Bros/Top Dawg Productions, features an all-star production lineup, with the likes of (DJ) Quik, Fred Wreck, Kay Gee from Naughty by Nature and JR Rotem contributing tracks. When asked about his time in the studio with (DJ) Quik, Jay Rock told us that "he’s definitely the most creative person I’ve worked with."
The unique opportunity to work with Kay Gee arose when Jay Rock’s associate Niam Ali reached out to the super producer on Jay Rock’s behalf. "We flew out to a studio in Jersey and made it happen," reflects Jay Rock. The album features guest appearances from E-40, Yung Joc and K-Dot as well as The Game, who also contributed production. Be on the lookout for more on Jay Rock on dubcnn soon!
For more information on Jay Rock and the debut album "Follow Me Home" in the meantime, head over to his official MySpace page or TopDawgProductions.com for the latest.

1178215043 - January 1, 1970 By : Earlier this week we brought you details on Watts representer Jay Rock and his impending debut album "Follow Me Home." In that update [see; Watts' Jay Rock Readies "Follow Me Home" For July] we mentioned a feature from K-Dot. As with Jay Rock, I recently caught up with K-Dot live at the Rimac Arena in San Diego, CA.
Coming straight outta Compton, Top Dawg Productions signee K-Dot is working hard on his new album. He has a prospective deal from a major label, which is currently being held under wraps.
In the meantime, K-Dot is focusing on the record, making sure that it comes out exactly how he wants it. When asked about his still untitled debut album, K-Dot excitedly replied, "It’s gonna be a well rounded album, real artistic. I’m expressing myself over the tracks, [and I’m going to give the listeners] something that I feel is missing from the game."
He has already collaborated with big name producers such as Quik, JR Rotem, and Fred Wreck, whom he shared a special chemistry with in the studio. "We knocked out about three tracks, and they all came out blazin’. We’re probably gonna have to keep all three of them for the album." More of the production is coming from in-house producers Soundwave and 4th Quarter. K-Dot feels that "for a good album...you’ve got to have a concept, it has to have the lyrics, and you have to have the [production] tracks...and that’s what I’ve been putting together for the last couple months."
It is apparent that K-Dot has a strong work ethic. He told us that "The key to success is loyalty, dedication, consistency, and keeping your faith in God." Looking back on it, he feels, "That’s what got me to the point I’m at. I remember when I was back in middle school, it was just a dream to be in the office [of a major record label.]" He also went on to explain how he holds Compton native The Game in a high light. "The West Coast gotta appreciate The Game, because he opened a lot of doors for a lot of new West Coast cats. He’s really been an influence to me coming out of [my] city, showing that you can come out of the hood and do your thing...So shout outs to The Game."
K-Dot's new album will assuredly be a treat for all West Coast fans. He hopes for the record to be a unique experience for listeners as well. "I’m trying to bring the good music back, back to the city. And something different from the city too, [but] I ain’t gonna tell you just yet." For more on K-Dot, check his official MySpace page or TopDawgProductions.com - we will keep you updated on his debut due later this year. Be sure to buy his new mixtape, "Training Day," available now for purchase on his MySpace page.
