The British Independent Film Awards 2006

The ninth annual British Independent Film Awards (BIFA)
were presented on the evening of Wednesday 29 November 2006 at the Hammersmith
Palais in Central London.
The British Independent Film Awards, created in 1998 to celebrate the best in
British independent filmmaking, have proved a huge success. Over-subscribed
for the last eight years, this is the UK's fastest growing indigenous film
event.
The BIFAs honour merit and achievement, celebrate new talent, and promote
British films and filmmaking both nationally and worldwide.
This year's jury was chaired by Sandy Lieberson, and consisted of Reuben
Barnes, Martin Childs, Anne V Coates, Frank Cottrell Boyce, Leo Davis, Anna
Friel, Jason Isaacs, Mick Jones, Damian Lewis, Helen McCrory, Damien
O'Donnell, Kelly Reilly, Martin Sherman and Colin Salmon.
Patrons of BIFA include Tilda Swinton, Ray Winstone, Mike Figgis, Tom
Hollander, Adrian Lester, Ken Loach, Ewan McGregor, Samantha Morton, Bill
Nighy, Trudie Styler, Meera Syal and Michael Winterbottom.
