World Trade Center is a traumatic story based on the real events of September 11th 2001. The film focuses on the story of two police officers who risked their own lives to save the lives of fellow New York citizens. The main character (John McLoughlin) is portrayed by Nicholas Cage who is a police officer and a family man.

It's a regular morning and New York's best police officers go through their usual routines when they get the message that a plane has flown into one of the Twin Tower buildings. The NYPD gathers their men to patrol and keep New York's streets calm before a second plane strikes the second Tower. It isn't long before they realize that this isn't an ordinary accident but a terrorist attack on American soil. John and his colleague Will Jimeno (played by Michael Peña) rush unselfishly into the burning building when suddenly everything collapses over them.

The story line is mostly regarding how these two police officers experience this horrible and inexplicable day. The movie succeeds in quickly re-creating the high tension that must have gripped all those in New York and follows through right to the films conclusion of just over two hours. The movie manages to create very strong visual pictures which really capture the viewers on an emotional level.

In this movie you see many American symbols in use; such as the competent US Marine who seem to solve the problems abroad and on a domestic level even in this case. Even though that is one of the few moments of what can be classed as American propaganda in the movie, what really makes this movie worth seeing is that they have left out much of the politics and spent time capturing the atmosphere and how the inhabitants were feeling during September 11th in New York City.

If you are expecting many action scenes, something you often get in abundance when watching Hollywood movies, then this is perhaps not the film for you however the essence of solidarity and cooperation between all races and religions as they worked hand in hand to save as many innocent lives as possible is well portrayed by the cast.

The movies many ideologies do at times seem un-balanced however this is perhaps a ploy by the Director (Oliver Stone) to give the audience more to think about. Discreetly but effectively you can see Crucifix's, Churches and even a scene with Jesus in the movie which gives a feeling of middle age fanaticism and perhaps even a new mental crusade towards non Christians.

This movie needs to be seen at the Theatres to truly experience it to it's fullest potential and somehow get a feeling of what the victims of 9-11 went through during that terrible day.
