Dubcnn was proud to be a part of the recent Nipsey Hussle in-store event at The Regal Tenant store on Pico Blvd. in Los Angeles. Nipsey discusses receiving radio spins, collaborating with major artists Snoop Dogg and Drake, and his forthcoming debut South Central State of Mind, coming out December 22nd.

Nipsey Hussle: We at Regal Tenant, my boy Perfecto set the in store up, it’s gonna be big. Just kick it with the fans for a little.

Dubcnn: Your single Hussle is My Last Name is getting spins right now on the radio. Is that gonna be an official single for the album?

Nipsey Hussle: That’s like another street record we gave ‘em. We got a lot of requests from DJs. It’s basically like another one similar to Hussle in the House. We gonna shoot a big video for it. It’s a warm up record.

Dubcnn: Another record that’s recently been getting a lot of feedback has been “Gangsta Life” with Snoop Dogg. Tell us about that record and how you and Snoop connected.

Nipsey: You already know I get all the comparisons all the time, “Oh you look like Snoop, you remind us of Snoop.” I always stay away from that. I’m not following footsteps I’m creating my own lane, but I always give him his due respect. He’s one of the best to ever do it from California in my opinion. We just ran into each other one day at a celebrity basketball game in Long Beach. And when we walked in he embraced us. He’s always knew we were a big fan of his shit, and always had respect for him. So we just got in knocked it out and it came out crazy. We did another record that’s gonna be on Snoop’s project, it’s crazy, it’s a monster. Terrace Martin produced that, y’all getting exclusive info on that one. It’s gonna be his biggest single since Drop It Like It’s Hot.

Dubcnn: That’s a big statement.

Nipsey Hussle: I said that so pay attention, it’s gonna come out in November.

Dubcnn: You’ve been doing a lot of work with major artists, you mentioned Snoop Dogg and you. You also did something with Drake called Killer, and I also heard y’all did another song on your album.

Nipsey Hussle: Yeah we did a couple records.

Dubcnn: How did you get with Drake?

Nipsey Hussle: Same way. It’s impossible to be blind of other artists’ movements. So I seen what Drake doing and he’s killing the game right now. He’s A1 and fresh, and he seen my movement. We respect each other’s movement and we ran into each other at the BET Awards, we spoke about doing the record. He sent the beat and it had a verse on it. And it was crazy homie, I liked it a lot. Got on it, shot it back, he did the hook. And later on I found out later my homies 1500 produced the record, and I didn’t even know. So it all worked out. It’s a crazy record to get to people. Something to get to them, to fuck they heads up real quick.

Dubcnn: You’ve been working closely with K Young on a few records lately.

Nipsey Hussle: Hell yeah, shout out to K-Young that’s my nigga.

Dubcnn: Can we expect to hear you on his album and him on your album?

Nipsey Hussle: Me and K-Young got a crazy record on my album. I haven’t wrote to it yet, but it’s a crazy record, I kept it in the cut for awhile. Check that out it’s coming soon. Shout out to my nigga Jay Rock, Mistah Fab, Problem, Bad Lucc, everybody.

Dubcnn: Anything else we can look out for?

Nipsey Hussle: Shit I just been working. I appreciate the support everyone’s giving me. I got my team behind me I got my city behind me. God willing I do what I came to do and take this shit back you already know West Coast.
