Week One: New Look, New Year, News...
By : Rud
Well
week one of the New Year has come to an end; 2006, the Chinese year of the Dog
and dubcnn’s year of the shake-up. Little was known of how this week would
effect us as a society, to the outside world it was just the climax of the
holidays and a rest from the excesses of food and drink; to us it was – of
course the climax to all those things – however also the closure of one era
and the introduction of another.
I’d like to once again welcome you all to the new dubcnn, don’t worry this
section will not be a weekly slot to rant about the site and what’s been
happening however I feel with what we have toiled with over 12 months it is
apt to briefly thank all involved and the patience and dedication of everyone
that supports us. Firstly thank you to Lil Jay for joining us and allowing us
to both envelop his technical abilities, the fresh site design you see before
you and of course the site content of westcoask2k. We cannot stress enough
what this merger means to both the westcoast ‘scene’ and online journalism as
a whole, we now have the options, skill and personnel to take the goals of
dubcnn to the next level. I also wish to thank the whole staff; Overseer,
Nima, Yash, SGV, Justin, Jome, Adon, Mr. Tongue Twista, Inspire and all those
involved in the planning, work and development behind the scenes. We still
have much to do and we are by no means complete, we acknowledge our faults, we
readily encourage criticism and suggestions and we urge people to rally behind
us and allow us to push forward in pursuit of our goals. To do that we need
support in every sense of the word please try and make regular visits to us,
download the music and video we provide, feedback to us on content, take part
in the contests we offer, sign up to dubcnn alerts, read our
editorials/interviews and new artist features, take advantage of the vast
knowledge the staff of this site possess, use our forum to learn and discuss
but most importantly of all we need you to continue to spread the word that
dubcnn exists so we can continue to grow.
So what has week one of 2006 provided so far? Well for us too much media
downtime (apologies it is being fixed for the better!) and for the rest of
Hip-Hop; well it’s been an average week overall not surprisingly, I sense
everyone is recovering! However there we’re some exceptions…
Detroit artist and Shady Records recording artist Obie Trice brought the New
Year in with a bullet in his head…best wishes to Obie and anyone else injured
in the attack from dubcnn.
DJ Quik received 4 mics for “Trauma” from The Source which is a credit to him
however as someone on the forum rightly stated, “If Lil Kim got 5 mics then
Trauma deserved 7.” Amazing what a manager can do with their
‘talents’…amazing.
Spider Loc continued his Game bashing on the internet, while no words of
encouragement or reconciliation have materialised from the Black Wall Street
Camps. The internet is the new media and clearly the fastest way of spreading
word but can we please ease off the Net-Bashing, lets leave that to the Chat
Rooms for adolescent youths with bad temperaments.
Another “G-Unit Soldier” set to feel the sole of 50’s boot? Rumour has it that
Oakland R&B star Keyshia Cole is set to join G-Unit to replace Olivia, whose
‘hype’ has been less than a Vanilla Ice comeback tour would generate. A-List
producers, heavyweight guest features still don’t appear to be enough to drag
the album out of the studio and onto shelves; looks destined to be consigned
to the G-Unit “Let’s forget it ever happened pile” alongside “300 Shots.”
Long time friend of Tupac and producer of tracks on “Me Against The World” and
“All Eyez On Me” Mike Mosely is rumoured to be putting together a “Best Of
Mike Mosley and Tupac Shakur CD” which may also feature previously unreleased
material, such as the renowned "Wrote The Glory" which Tupac recorded for Mike
Tyson as his ring entrance theme…how long til Afeni gets word, blocks the
release, demands his master copies, chops the lyrics up, hires a “hot right
now” producer and knocks out another posthumous CD…‘I’ll give it until
December.’ Good luck though Mike it would be nice to see.
Daz has revealed the 12 Hungry MC’s who are taking part in his “DPG Idol”
contest where the winner will be crowned an honour member of the group. Best
of luck to all involved but Daz, quick word in your ear – hope the show is a
complete success but when this is over can we get a program where we see you
and Kurupt taking time, working hard and toiling over a new DPG release,
something where we can see you try and put the same skill, determination and
hunger that created Dogg Food – I know you don’t have to but its what people
what…real talk.
Week one of fifty-two out of the way, so long to go, so much yet to happen,
bookmark here and make a weekly trip to The Edit(or) Suite for a mix of
opinions, rumours and intrigue – every Sunday…pardon the late start, it’s been
a hectic New Year!
