interview KITTY   (January 2007) | Written By: Rud

When we first heard her in 2006 we were initially inclined to reveal her talents straight away. After much deliberation however we decided that the world was not ready and that 2007 was to be Kitty's year.

Female rap artist Kitty, was born Kendra Holland on January 12 in the Philippines, before moving to Southern California. Having gone through college Kitty, who is the proud mother of one baby girl, started writing poetry and quickly incorporated her poetry with beats. It was became obvious quickly that she possessed a lyrical talent.

Having spent many of her years growing up with friends and other inspiring rap artists she had listened to various males speak in detail about their experiences with women, both good or bad. It was then she realised she had something to say in response and writing poetry was her way of expressing herself. Soon after Kitty became involved in so called "Spit Sessions" which lead to her first break into the local scene as she started to get invited to perform at events, clubs and hair shows. Then in August of 2005 Kitty opened for Brook Valentine at a popular Hip-Hop club in Southern California.

Since her emergence on the local scene she has worked alongside and been under the watchful eye of countless artists and producers including The Eastsidaz, BattleCat, Fred Wreck, Suga Free and also the legendary Snoop Dogg. From all these artists she has gained vast experience and support however it was the encouraging words of The DoggFather himself that assured Kitty she had the talent to pursue music as a career. The female rapper's passion and determination has seen her move quickly in the industry and her lyrical skills are set to continue to open doors.

In order for you to appreciate what Kitty brings to the table, we have some music to sample below. We have three tracks that are all very different in terms of sound and concept however all showcase Kitty's lyrical and song writing capabilities. This material was all produced by Steve Vicious, and the track Stinky Face is set to be the lead single from an album that is set to be completed by March.

Kitty - Stinky Face
Kitty - Do What It Do
Kitty - No One But Me

While Kitty's people put the finishing touches to a planned promotional college tour they are also talking to both Def Jam and J Records regarding a possible deal. Other producers set to feature on the release are 8 East and DJ Lethal. We will keep you updated on the latest from Kitty in the meantime you can learn more by visiting her official MySpace page.
