YUNG WALT
(April 2006) | Written By:

You will be
forgiven for wondering when you first download these tracks from newcomer
Yung Walt if we have presented something other than Hip-Hop, the track
"Playboy" although starting with "I know you gonna dig this" presents a
soulful sound with a light tempo that may surprise you - if not then
"Dreams" surely will; with its light 'keys' intro that lulls you into the
song with its melodic feel and unbelievable catchy hook...you'll soon be
wondering when you hear the tracks if we have stumbled across something a
little special with this artist.
So who is the person behind Yung Walt?
Well the goverment know him as Walter Gaines but the neighbourhood know him by
his music. Graduating from Inglewood High in 2002 after swapping and changing
schools he opted to head towards a career in hip-hop. When he turned 17 he
looked at his life thus far and began to think that this was his calling.
Having spent most of his youth being the "Man of the House" for his mother and
sister he wants to show and prove through words and rhymes and after dropping
out of college in 2003, a decision he was criticsed for, he has achieved great
things including landing a hit single with Snoop Dogg on the
"Welcome To Tha Church Tha Album" release on the track "Shake Dat Sh-t,"
where he wrote and performed lyrics for the hook. He has since worked with
various producers such as; Battlecat, Terrace Martin, 1500 and
Chordz. He has recorded a solo album which is titled "Hustle 2 Struggle"
under the independent label "Ghetto Child ENT" run by himself and
partners Bubba and Mac Jackson. Due to the extensive street buzz and
credibility created in California along with the street team and own
promoters, the album has managed to sell over 3,000 copies in Los Angeles
alone since January 2006.
This is not an artist to be ignored; raw talent is rare and when portrayed
correctly a pleasure to see and hear - check out the music below and pick up a
copy of Snoop Dogg's "Welcome To The Church Tha Album" to see
him credited - shouts to Snoop for getting Yung Walt on the project.
