We have the pleasure of reviewing the latest Tupac DVD "Live At The House Of
Blues."
Overseer and myself put our heads together and even compared the old Japanese
version to the new official US/European version. The Japanese version of the
concert which was entitled "Untouchable : A Dynasty live in Concert" no longer
appears to be available. First of all there is no question, this is the exact
same show but both have footage that the other doesn't have. For example the
Japanese one has a Suge Knight intro & a Danny Boy performance before Tupac
kicks off. It also has Soopafly performing "I Dont Hang" and DPG doing "What
Would You Do".
The new US DVD has one more Tupac performance (him doing "2 of Americaz Most
Wanted" with Snoop and it has "Do What I feel" plus "Gz and Hustlaz".) It also
has Daz & Kurupt doing a song from their then upcoming album "West Coast
Aftershock" called "Me In Your World" (which ended up on Death Row's Greatest
Hits Disk 2 Track 15) for which the live version has slightly changed lyrics
with Daz dissing Dr Dre in it! It also has performances of "For My Niggaz &
Bitches", "Doggfather" and "Gin & Juice" by Snoop.
We must emphasise that the quality on the new official Death Row release is
far better than the Japanese one which seems to be essentially a poor quality
bootleg in comparison in terms of both picture and sound.
I have to say the highlight of this DVD is when Tupac does "Hit Em Up" and
disses Bad Boy, Mobb Deep and others for about 5 minutes out of anger before
the song even begins. Also when Snoop performs his "Whats My Name" track he
gets the whole House Of Blues erupting even Suge Knight can be seen dancing in
the VIP area. The DVD ends with a bang as Snoop Calls Tupac on to the stage
again for their collaboration, "2 of Americaz Most Wanted."
The quality is crisp and you can almost picture yourself being in the audience
watching the legendary Tupac and all the other 30 people on stage with him (DPG,
Outlawz, Bad Azz, Suge Knight, Jodeci and more)
The bonus material is the only reason for it not getting the 5 out of 5 stars
from me as I was disappointed to see only the following music videos
California Love (Remix), To Live and Die in LA, Hit Em Up, How Do You Want It
(Concert Version) and I Aint Mad At Cha.
4 out of 5 stars a must have for all Tupac and DPG fans wheras for the
Japanese version 1 out of 5 stars; of interest to collectors but not an
enjoyable experience.
