BABY FACTORY (June
2010) | Interview By: Yash
We are in a time when many of the big recording studios are closing. It
is remarkable, that the Danish recording facility Baby Factory, in just 5
years, has become part of an elite group of studios that is highly sought
after by international artists. Baby Factory can today look back at 5
amazing years with Platinum recordings, 3 Danish Music Awards, and over 250
projects.
The client list in the US, which includes Interscope and Def Jam, is
expanding every year.
Centrally located in Copenhagen Denmark, two world-class engineers Danny krøger and Lars Falck
form Baby Factory; one of the largest recording studios in Scandinavia.
With 3200 sq, Baby Factory houses the utmost recording equipment, both
analog and digital, including the new Solid State Logic Duality Recording
Console.
One of Baby Factory’s fortés is creating that ”American sound”, which is
notable with customers like Black Eyed Peas, Proof, Lil’ Scrappy, 40 Glocc,
OneRepublic, Yukmouth, Alesha Dixon and many others. Dubcnn had to learn
more... ..........................................................................................

Dubcnn Exclusive – Baby Factory

.............................................................................................
Dubcnn: You have a great sense of getting that ”American sound” – what is it
precisely that Baby Factory does?
We are achieving the same very high technical and creative level
that you get from some of the top US mix engineers - such as Manny Marroquin
- if you send the same song to a mixer like him and to us, you wont be able
to hear whose mix was done by who on the final result.
Dubcnn: Why should someone choose Baby
Factory over studios in other parts of the world?
In regards to equipment, we have exactly the same gear as all the other
large recording studios, but what sets us apart is that our studio prises
are approximately half of what studios charge in the USA. Our prices are
1500 USD per day, while an avarage rec. studio in the US is 4000 USD/day. So
even if a producer should choose to fly in with his or her tracks, it would
still make sense financially.
As Aaron Fishbien, the American producer who has produced among others
Enrique Iglesias and Beyonce, says "I can choose to take an 8 hour
flight to LA, or fly to Copenhagen in 9 hours, and save at least 1000 $ per
day!" Another factor is our super staff technicians and engineers, who
are highly educated and trained, and have a lot of experience.
The goal has been from the start that the music that comes out of Baby
Factory should sound great. No crackling or noice etc… the sound should be
very clean! We can get all instruments to be crystal clear in the mix, if
that is what the producer wants. Also worth mentioning is the differences
between the Denmark and US time zones. It really work to our advantage: When
our american, canadian or other foreign clients go to bed, then we are up
working! And when they get out of bed, the mix is ready for them! It is
incredibly time saving, and time is money.
Dubcnn: How many of your clients are
from other countries, and from where?
Our American clientele has grown at a constant pace from year to year, and
now is approximately 30 % of our business from The US. Besides that we have
requests from The U.K. and the rest of Europe.
Dubcnn: With the American sound in
Copenhagen, why isn’t there more American music beeing made in Denmark?
I think it is coming. After the financial downturn, we can feel there is
more and more customers from other countries, especially the US. They have
realized, that their songs can get mixed at least as well here in Denmark as
in the US, just for a lot less money, and they don’t even have to be here.
They just load the the material onto our ftp server, and within just a few
hours, they have the final result, -US sound, but for less than half the
price!
Dubcnn: How do your American customers
find you?
We have a collaboration with some great producer teams that we are mixing
for, and furthermore we also just signed a contract with a management team
in Los Angeles. We are very excited about this new relationship.
