BINC (November
2010) | Interview By: Rud
BINC emerges from the rough-and-tumble streets of East Oakland,
California. His rough childhood and upbringing helped shape him into the
person and artist he's become. From living in a church with his father while
going to high school, or playing hundreds of games of chess with convicted
felons to pass time, every experience in his life has been the foundation
for which he's brought his craft to the table.
BINC grew up as the Bay Area music scene was bursting with talent in the
late 1990s, and early 2000s, and was casually introduced to some of the
biggest names in the business. But his interest in becoming a part of it
didn't develop until a chance meeting with Money-B, one of the original
members of the multi-platinum legends, Digital Underground. BINC began
touring with Digital as a roadie, and eventually gained access to the stage.
Along the way, he's spent time with the likes of The Luniz, Coolio, YOung
MC, Tone Loc, B Legit, and dozens of others.
Now college-educated and ready to take the rap game by storm, BINC has
steady been on his grind. His first mixtape "Rough Draft. Vol. 1" was an
instant Oakland street classic. He's since been featured on mixtapes by
Money-B, and a recent Coast 2 Coast mixtape hosted by M.I.A. BINC was also
featured on Digital Underground's final studio album, 2008's "..Cuz A d.u.
Party Don't Stop!" In early 2010, BINC was highlighted on the Jake Records
"Hip Hop Xplosion" compilation, featuring some of the freshest names in Hip
Hop. Lately, he's been seen on stage with the likes of Warren G and others,
and is preparing for the release of his debut album, 200X, due later this
year on Jake Records. His first official video, "We So On" was shot and
produced earlier this year, and his second is on the way.
We caught up with BINC briefly to discuss his FREE 7 Track Sampler
available on Amazon
and to get an insight into him and his music.

Dubcnn Exclusive – BINC (Best In Northen Cali)
of Digital Underground
By Rud

Dubcnn: For people just
learning about you, what's something you think they need to know?
I am a hard working artist who comes from
a long line of platinum mc's ready to come into the industry and get right
to work entertaining the
world.
Working with Shock G and Digital Underground is like going to a hip hop
university. Yeah there's partying but constantly I was being schooled and
trained to be a dope MC. The information I soaked up was like winning the
"knowledge lottery." I was blessed to have those teachings directly from 2
of the best in the game; Shock G and Money B.
Dubcnn:
What sets you apart from other
rappers in the Bay area right now?
I have a style that is futuristic and different. I feel like people always
say "I'm real" well what does that mean? These days I don't think it means
anything. There is too much leaning to our own understanding and not
sticking to the facts. Is real having a gun? Is real selling drugs? Is
a person real if they go to jail or die because you didn't want to be looked
at like a sucka? Or is real going to college, having a good job and taking
care of our children? I went to college before I entered seriously into the
rap business. I studied the game and used skills that I learned in college
to give me a boost. I think that separates me from other artists because a
lot of famous artists came from the gutter, which I can relate to, because I
did too. I just chose a different path.
Dubcnn:
What can people expect from the
debut album?
People can expect a complete album that covers the streets, clubs and places
of entertainment. I let people know who I am, things I find
interesting, and I'm just having fun with it so I hope people can have fun
listening. Then with features like Shock G, contributing an old school
endorsement or Lee Majors bringing it to the streets, or Jpark reppin' the
BINCRU, its all there. We got dances, chants, and catchy party hooks that
will make the clubs go bananas but also gritty songs like Pardon Me If I'm
Shinin and V. Bincowski which show that BINC can attain appeal in all
regions not just the bay. You gotta just throw it in, and come along for the
ride!
Dubcnn:
Final words?
Thanks for the chance to get my name out and let people know I'm out here.
The sampler album is still available for free download at
BINCsampler.com
and we have a holiday single that just dropped called Many Times, Many Ways,
which is on iTunes and all the rest. Its some real shit about how I see
Christmas and the holidays.
