Butch Cassidy Gave Dubcnn A Shoutout!  Check That : Here

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dubcnn: We’re here with Butch Cassidy. What’s going on?

Not much man. What’s up with you?

Dubcnn: Not much. It’s been a while since you’ve been on Dubcnn as an interviewee, so let the people know what you’ve been up to!

Right now I’m totally into just doing this record. That’s my main focus, just bringing good music to the people. That’s it.

Dubcnn: We’re really excited to hear the album. You recently changed the title from “Playa Life” to “Gangsta Love”. What made you decide to change it?

Well when you think of “Playa Life”, you just think of being on some fly, playa shit. All the way through the record, just talking about playin’, pimpin’, and all that. But I had street records [along with] records for the women. I had to switch it up and call it “Gangsta Love” because I didn’t want my gangsta songs to come on [after] a woman song. So I had to switch the title to “Gangsta Love”, it just made more sense to me.

Dubcnn: You just dropped the first single “All I See” with Snoop Dogg and Dae One on production. Tell us about your experience in the studio recording that song…

Man, when I recorded it…see, what they did wrong is…that’s not me on the hook! Nobody knows that. That’s my buddy on the hook.

Dubcnn: That’s not you?

No, that’s not me. I’m singing in the background with him, but he wrote the hook. His name is Uncle Issac. They never put his name out on the streets, but we’ve got to fix that.

But when I first recorded the record, we just did it by ourselves. Then later on, when I heard it, I was like, “Yeah, we’ve gotta get Snoop on it. It’s just gonna bring it out a little more.” So I called up Snoop, took it over to the studio with him. He laid his part down, and the song came together. Thank God, it’s a masterpiece! I’m glad the people like it.

Dubcnn: Yeah, people have been going crazy over it. It’s also been getting played on Power 106. Are you hoping this single will eventually become a national record?

Oh yeah, that’s what we’re really hoping. We’re just starting off with the radio stations, but we always kick it off with Power, that’s my home station. We finna start moving towards the other stations, I’ve got a couple little things going on. We’re gonna try to hit everybody this time.

Dubcnn: Awesome. Are you pretty much done recording the “Gangsta Love” album?

Pretty much. But until I release it, if I hear another track that’s just ridiculously fire, then I’ll do something to it and put it down. But I haven’t picked the full lineup. I’ve got like 20 songs to pick from, so I’m gonna pick like the hottest 12 and just deliver them.

Dubcnn: With this being your first solo album, is there a different way that you go in and approach doing songs for your own record as opposed to when you’re doing a guest spot on someone else’s record?

Oh, I approach it real different when I’m doing it for myself. Not like I don’t bring the heat when I’m doing it for other people, but if it’s for myself, I go real hard. I’ve got to go in, light a couple of incents and make the room real dark…throw on a pair of khakis and a white T-shirt, and go in and do my thing. *Laughs* And you’ve got to have the Romeos on, you know what I’m sayin’? So we go in there, get real G’d up, and kick out that fire. I think a lot of people is gonna be real impressed with this record, because I did some good stuff on it. Since this is my first record, I brought the heat!

Dubcnn: Nice! Who can we expect on this record as far as production?

I pretty much did a lot of new cats because I wanted a new sound. I’ve been working real tough with the “New West”, as they call themselves. I have Dae One of course, then I’ve got the guy who produced “Swagger” named “Jedi” Jared Moore, and I’ve got one from Warryn Campbell. I’ve got one…I think Damizza and Warren G put one together, and J. Wells put a real hot one together. Then we’ve got some horn playing by Terrace [Martin], he came and gave me some fire.

So I’ve been really focusing on this new talent, and trying to bring that to the scene. We’ve gotta get this new sound; these guys are just real hungry. Most of these producers, they’ll just throw you a beat that they’ve had in their repertoire for ten years. But these new cats, they’ve got something to prove. So I just did it like that.

Dubcnn: What do you hope that everyone gets out of the album when it’s released?

Just to know that I’m the greatest! *Laughs* I just want them to really dig the music and say, “Man, we always knew Butch was real, real hot, but we think he’s number one, and he’s about to take over the West Coast scene.” That’s my dream, and I hope that’s what they say.

Dubcnn: When can we expect the album to drop?

We don’t got a release date right now, but I know I’m shooting for possibly early May or June. Right when the summer starts, that’s what I’m thinking about.

Dubcnn: What’s your label situation looking like right now?

I was gonna do it with Fontana/Universal. That option is always open, to do the independent scene. But right now we’re thinking…we don’t want to throw no names out there, because we’ve got a little stuff in the works. We don’t want the haters to show up all of the sudden. We’re just gonna keep it quiet right now.

Dubcnn: You were just on three records from PR1ME’s street album “The Transformation”. What do you think of PR1ME?

PR1ME is my dude. He’s from Long Beach too, we’re working real tough together, and we’re gonna be working on his project right after I put mine out. That dude is real hot. The flow that he spits – he could be one of the next hottest rappers coming out of Long Beach. Be looking for PR1ME, because his stuff is real hot.

Dubcnn: Are you going to make any guest appearances on other records in the near future?

I haven’t done any guest appearances in a while. All the people that I’ve been messing with lately, I’ve just been trying to pull them in for my record. When I did the stuff with Snoop, that was for my record, and I’ve got one with Glasses Malone for my record. I’m doing some stuff with Bishop Lamont soon, and I’m supposed to do one with WC. I’ve got some surprises!

Dubcnn: Is there anything else that you want to say to all of the fans on Dubcnn?

Tell them I love them. Keep God first, and the rest will come in together. Thanks for the support. Dubcnn has always been so gracious to me. Much love to y’all. All the fans, keep riding with BC, and I’ma throw y’all on my back and take you to the top.
