Dubcnn: How did you get into the
music business?
I got into it probably about ten years ago hangin out with Ice
T, Ice came and snatched me off the block.
You know everybody kinda knows this story I was a little street
kid and doing my thang but I ain't gone sit there and indight myself
and go around say what I used to do but you know cuz came and snatched
me up off the street.
I was a little fearless lil dude so he take me on the road with
him to get down probably about 6 years ago is when it really bit.
Cuz used to say you got a cool voice you shoulda try to get down
and I was in and out of jail. Started writing rhymes when I was
in jail so I guess you can say I started when I was in jail like
back in 96. Thats when I really started taking it serious and started
writing.
Dubcnn: How old where you?
Shit how old was I... I was prolly about hmmm I don't really know
how old I was bro. I was barely in my 20's.
Think I was 21 or something like that. Sitting there writing on
tissue paper writing my rhymes
Dubcnn: How old were you when you got introduced
to the ganglife?
It's kinda wiered because I started before it was never crippin
or blood. When you know alot of these silly ass cats thats outthere
don't even know that crip stands for something they don't know the
initials actually stand for something.
And I don't wanna be outthere teaching the world so everybody can
start running around sayin "Oh I know what it stand for, I
know what it stand for"
Ima keep that to myself because then
you gone have every little silly kid running around thinking he
about something because he know what them initials stand for.
But I started when I was 11 years old man goin up to Van Ness Park.
It's a real known park in LA thats split now.
The bloods and the crips it splits of the Rolling 60's and VNGs
which is a blood gang but at one time we was all one. You know everybody
went to the swimmingpool everybody got along..
The beef really started over a cat that went up to a club a club
by the name of Paladium and got robbed over a leather jacket then
got killed.
Thats how the seperation started.
And it ain't like Im old enough to say this because Im historically
known enough to say that I don't care were you was who you was if
you was on the westside wether you were a blood or a crip everybody
wore blue rag..Everybody!
Because it was not a blue or red thing. The red thing didn't start
until you know the cops would pick us up and we go to things like
operation stash on the other side and you know "what colours
do yall like? We wanna see nothing but red well maybe yall should
you know".
And we were on the westside we was about that money so there were
no green rags so we went with the blue. You know this would be a
four hour probably a 4 year long interview if we went too deep into
it.
But as for myself I started bangin...I official got quartered on
there to Rolling 60 Crip when I was 12 years old infront of house
by a cat by the name of Big Peety Wacc. He just came home he's fighting
a case right now but hopefully everything will
work out for him. Im a second generation well known crip.
I never went to jail and found God or found Allah Im just a real
cool dude but you know my pedegree's about mines.
Dubcnn: So when you were little what did you wanna
be when you grew up?
You know what I was real heavy into football. To be honest with
you Caz is a sick footballer, actually Ice used to bet on my little
football team in my neighbourhood.
Played straight street ball on the concrete if you was near the
grass you got poped in your chest and knocked off to the side.
Or you got tackled right there in the street and I was a hell of
a football player man.
That's what I wanted to be. I always played park ball but when it
came time to get into school and stuff like that I was never into
the books. Schools just bored me to death
Dubcnn: So what happened that you chose music
over the sports?
I think Ice T gave me the round to do that..I went and played some
semi pro ball you know when I got home from the penetetiary. Probably
after my second ??? I went and played some semi pro ball for a cat
named Rod Martin who used to play
for the Oakland Raiders and a cat I was in the Pen with used to
say "man you should come try out" So I went and tried
it out..
and it was an opportunity of make 500$ a game with him or go on
the road and make 500$ a day with Ice T . So you make that choise
also.
Dubcnn: Ice T said youre like his little brother..He
watched you grow and he's very proud of you. How does he know you
that well?
Same neighbourhood he knew my sister. He went to school with my
sister actually..
I haven't seen my sister in about (Takes a deep breathe) man I actually
haven't seen any of my...
Alot of people that look on the back of the "Goin Headup"
album dont know that picture of me holding up a picture is me and
my siblings.
It was kinda like you know Im looking for them I know that kinda
interluded there on the question but Ice went to school with my
sister, we weren't real tighten family but umm I don't know if they
dated I really don't know the story.
I knew Ice T always hung around in the neighbourhood..He wasn't
Ice T to us he was just Tracy.
Tracy was always at the basketball games but never played basketball
Tray would be sittin there betting on the team. He be at the football
game wouldn't be playing ball he be betting on them. He be at the
gambling matches he wouldn't be gamling he be betting on niggaz.
Dubcnn: You have done songs with alot of big artists
can you tell me which one of those was the most humble and easiest
one to work with?
Treach from Naughty By Nature that was a dream come true. Dude
is actually funny and he'll tell you the story... Dude actually
had beef with my clique, a real good comrad of mine got a jam him
up in the elevator because we were a little confused. Because you
gotto understand when we first saw NBN we thought they was from
here.
I mean they was rockin the fluffy jackets with the braids Im like
man niggaz look like crips and they caught him in the elevator and
banged on him so we had a mutual friend by the name of Mario, Spinderella
from Salt n Peppa thats her husband and he was in the car with Treach.
Treach heared my song and said I was bla bla bla. Then he heared
me say were I was from and he was like aw man I got into it with
them dudes. Me and cuz just clicked he came in 2 in the morning
into a studio that I used to own man got down wrote the first verse
right then and there we got out we been friends ever since. Whenever
I go up to New York he right there for me.
Dubcnn: Thats cool man sounds like a real nice
guy... Tell me how you hooked up with Moe and those german singers.
I heared their songs are blowin up overthere!
Yea I got the opportunity by this kid named Simon Toklo he's a
real big producer outthere in Sweden in Stockholm. He knew somebody
in The States that was really impressed with me wanted to work with
me that invited me to Sweden last year.
I ended up going on tour with Nas and Sean Paul with a company by
the name of Swing a Ling out of Stockholm.
Somehow somebody came to a show and asked me if I wanted to come
and do something for that kid named Moe, to this day I never met
Moe.
But Im glad I gave him a hit song and he doing what he need to do
with it the kids Qwan they were originally on the song. THe kid
that was originally on there was
this kid by the name of Raptile who I thought his verse was hot
for whatever reason they took him off and put Qwan on but it still
came out hot as hell.
Im glad that european fans can appreciate and accept how I get down
and the song is in top 10 from what I understand doing its thang.
Dubcnn: How did u hookup with Eve and how was
it workin with her?
I was recording a song for my album with Battlecat who was also
working on her album and umm she heared the song we were working
on and was like "dam dudes voice is very distinctive"
and Cat brought it up ask her will she get down with me and girl
was so thourough not the politics not no sillyness and umm she banged
it out.
The songs a wrap it's a hit the cool thing about it is it shows
eastcoast and westcoast artists can get down can collaborate if
you spittin about it you know everyday.. just thugluv and thats
what the songs about thuglovin.
Dubcnn: What producers you got on your new album
Hood Hitz?
Ofcourse Battlecat, Damizza alwaaays, this new kid by the name
of Prophet who is just disgusting this kid is bananas you know he
is a kid that actually caught me in the street and was like man
can I play you something.. I ended up picking like 4 bangers this
kid out of the 805 which people are sleeping on.
805 is like the pretour county of Los Angeles it's you know the
outer outskirts this kid by the name of Smith from the beat bastards
and this kid umm just Pssshhh and he rhymes he's on my album a couple
of times also he is disgusting.
The beats are just out of nowhere. Who else umm oh Platinum Brothers
who did Pop Pop. They also did the joint with me and Napoleon from
The Outlawz "lovely Day" and then you know a few other
cats.
Dubcnn: It's been pushed back alot wussup with
that?
Yea *laughs* that is in no fault of the record company if everybody
knows my pedegree you know I tend to somehow stumble into trouble
for some reason around every album you know I caught a couple cases
and make sure you print this please print this! I wanna give the
biggest thanks of all to my lawyer..cats don't thank their lawyers
enough.
I wanna give the biggest thanks to my lawyer Brad Sandler who stayed
by me for the last four years and I ain't catched nomore cases Im
making it clear now.
I caught some cases dude made sure he took care of me and thats
why the album was pushed back so if folks wondering why I ain't
in their town trust me if I could be in every town right now I would
but community service and being on probation and all that but Caz
gone knocc it out real quik and be in a town near you real soon.
Dubcnn: Who's featured on your new album?
Aw man always my little brother Layzie Bone got this kid named
Blaze who is an up and coming actor who is actually a fire spitter
Napoleon from The Outlawz, ofcourse we got Eve we got E-40, we got
Yukmouth man this is where it gets onfusing..hmm..
YEa yea I got Qwan and Moe, my bad..I got Jayo Felony..
Dubcnn: Shade?
Yea I got Shade Sheist ..haha you gotto help me man ..Nune, Knocturnal
yea there we go.. I got Kurupt I got Rasskass. I hope I ain't leaving
nobody out but um I think thats about it.
Dubcnn: You don't smoke right?
Na your boy Caz stays healthy I own a boxing champ... direct com
boxing out here in lake Los Angeles co owners with legendary Sed
Willis who's a proffesional boxer from back in the day now he's
teaching his whole style and everything to us.
Dubcnn: Tell us about the diss track to Xzibit
which is also on the album?
(Takes a deep breathe) Ima make this quik so I won't give that
fag nomore attention.. When I first came out when I was sitting
in jail I had to do a quik little 15 month right before "Thunderdome"
came out I heared a song of his and I was a fan of dude I kinda
explained the story a few times we gone finnally put it to rest
with you because you always stayed official with me.
But I was a fan man
Im still a fan of that dude IF he'll do what got him in the door
you know that dude is a hell of a spitter but when he switched over
to the gangbangin side well if Im a gangbang I gotto settrip on
him so really it had nothing to do with Xzibit as a rapper.
It was me as a gangbanger from Rolling 60 Crip and if he talking
about coming from the land of this and that Im confused because
you don't have to be born and raised here but atleast know some
pedegree and something when I gotto looking into it
found out he from Detroit and New Mexico and he been here for about
6 years all of a sudden it was like "wow these niggaz is really
jumping right on and don't understand that we just burried"..
By the time he finnished his album we probably done burried a 100
soldiers we don't need him.. theres a few cats we don't need gangbangin
is done man specially when you getting that old.
I look ignorant goin up there crip walking..You gone do that infront
of your kids?
You gonna teach your kids how to do that? So when I banged on cuz
he didn't answer back you know my homie Tiny Caz caught him at a
club and he offered to do a song with me I was like na cuz I don't
wanna do a song.
If I wanted to do a song I would have my manager call you. I was
a gangbanger that was my ignorant mentallity. So I was bangin on
him, it's like walking up to somebody "Cuz where you from?"
and this last song was like a final nail in the coffin like you
silly ass little tramp stop with the gangbangin.
And Im proud of him even more he's on his own tv show getting that
check getting that money but leave the gangbangin out of it I don't
care if he was a blood or a crip just leave the gangbangin out of
it.
If you're a tough guy just be a tough guy..Let me finnish it like
this:
Every day I gotto get up if any female that think Im cute thats
all nice but everyday I gotto get up and look at a scar that goes
from the buttom of my leg to the back of my ass another hole in
the top part of my head another scar on the side of my stoumache
and thats from cats that wanna end my life so I earned the right
to say fuck Xzibit I earned the right to say fuck anybody fuck you
hood I don't give a fuck where you from.
Fuck you because if you
ain't banged on my turf and done nothing with me then fuck you now
if you wanna squabble lets squabble. But don't with the guns and
gangbangin and all that stop that.
Because it ain't nothing cute everytime I look in the mirror with
my 5 year old looks at it and maybe don't wanna touch that part
of her fathers body because she thinks Im still in pain so I guess
you can hear it on my voice that I don't never want nobody getting
this and go oh I guess I gotto bang and it wasn't just me that was
dissin him I was just spittin and mashin all this.. Cj Mac dissed
him SNoop dissed him, WC alot of niggaz dissed dude. Plus there's
alot of rappers outthere thats fronting the same way and it's like
man we don't need it.
If you tough I respect..let me tell you something I respect a faget
a homosexual there's a straight man that would woop your ass then
I respect some nigga that got
his pants hanging down and think he gotto put a rag in his pocket
and throw a hood up. If you can't woop the next nigga next to you
that's not what gangbangin was about It had nothing to do with guns
and talking shit It was rep your hood get down for the turf and
make some sense out of this senseless war we doing.
I think what hurt me the most was all of a sudden I heared Defari
I heared all these cats and I remember spittin with Tash from The
Alcoholics in Miami I believe and thats like another little brother
of mine and I asked him "Cuz ain't Defari a school teacher..
like a foreal school teacher" and when you say you come from
the land of this NO YOU DONT! When you say I come from that means
you done it or you been a part of that so I wouldn't care if it's
50 cent I wouldn't care who it is.
When you indite yourself on record somebody must not be looking
for you. Because I don't care if you pickup a "Thundadome"
"Goin Head Up" or any mixtape you gone never hear Caz
talking about shooting somebody you gone never hear Caz talk about
"I used to do this I used to do that".
B ecause I don't know who's looking for me. So that should make
America wake up a little bit more before you become a fan be a little
more critical be a critic and go well you know what thats true I
got a homeboy thats doing 2 years for a ounce of weed this nigga
talking about how he used to flip birds and he was the chicken hawk
homie you don't think somebody looking for you?
I do a show and keep it moving Im not there to congregate Im not
there to kick it Im there to do my show if I don't know what nigga
as I get off that stage I may have
chunked his homeboy out or did something to his turf so I hope that
niggaz that do show up for my show are the cats that just got love
for Caz and understanding nigga we can shut the show down right
now and just start getting down. Im a rapper last.
Dubcnn: Real talk, so what other projects are
you working on right now?
Right now Im working on another project with this artist by the
name of Slim for troublesome records. who is just disgusting.
Actually his song will be leaked on my website in about a week.
He's got a song called "Winding" which is on the whole
reggea tip right now he's a hot cat *laughs* and his got another
song "riding"(??) with an r. For some reason he's dissing
The Clipse and Fabolous. He got a real bad diss taste for fabolous
but the nigga about 6" 6 and look like he definetly got some
chunk ups.
Another nigga thats always by himself so thats why I like him. I
got another artist by the name of Young who umm not Young one don't
get it missunderstood with the dude that kid Young one.
It's just Young and umm we working on his album and Im just you
know partnering backup with Stan Sheppard who used to run Dj Quik's
lable Sheppard Lane. It's me Stan, Don Juan, Big Lee and my man
Sean Scyk we're all partnering up to do more projects start helping
artists.
If you could sit there and sing your song and you flippin this and
you flippin that homie if you could put a blunt in your mouth you
can probably afford some promotional product you can probably afford
some studio time.
So we're hollering at alot of young dudes like look don't ever comeup
to me rappin I don't ever wanna hear you rap I don't even have to
like your song you know something was taught to me by Stan Sheppard.
Who's legendary in this business.. I used to sit there and play
him new joints and he would go "Caz I don't know I like you
but I don't have too."
It's not what we like it's what the audience likes it's what we
can brainwash people into believing because Im sure there's alot
of songs outthere even me speaking directly to you there's alot
of songs outthere you went oh my god are you joking me it's a hit?
It's the promotion. If we watch enough about 911 you know you either
gone get up worked up into a frenzy or you gone feel sorry for you.
You never gone be in the middle so when you hear a song so much
you can be brainwashed by that either you gone become a fan or a
hater. So I've learned to become a fan of everything and if it sounds
like it can make some money well godam lets go and make some money.
Those are the projects that im doing. Something with one of Suge
Knights Artists SKG and Im helping her out she's got a she's got
an album ready to drop.
Dubcnn: What's Suge Knight up too?
Is he out of jail?
Yea he came out two months ago Im not friendly with dude I don't
think we gone ever sit down and split a piece of bread but SKG is
actually my homeboy Tiny Caz sister his blood sister. She lives
in my neighbourhood I knew she needed a little help while Suge was
gone Suge's doin it all by himself also he's a powerful business
man but you know I needed to give her a little bit of that real
hood love so she's outthere grindin real hot hot female.
Dubcnn: Will that comeout on Deathrow or she gone
put it out herself?
I believe it's coming out on Deathrow I really ain't got that real
teqnichal Im just helping her coordinate the album and put it together.
But she got alot of features on there.
Me and dude (Suge) had no words I don't think we will have no words
Im just helping out.
Alot of cats really starting to holla at me because they know I
work radio I work the streets now if everybody remembers Domino
he's got a disgusting new album off the hingez so he has been calling
me you know that's and honour because dudes been in this business
alot longer than me.
Dubcnn: He's a Legend!
Aw yea he a legend through and through and I don't see how anybody
could say anything about dude if you were bangin to his shit 10
years ago then you can bang to it now because we ain't changed.
His got a hot new album and he hollad at me about help on the radio.
And if people remember Gangsta Dresta..BG Knocc Out and Dresta umm
Dresta's another cat.
Let's make this official BG Knocc Out will be home next year and
BG Knocc Out still look 16 years old because the penetentary don't
pave you it just stages you
it sets the stage for you to get outthere and be a grown man and
he still look good as hell got his rhymes ready niggaz ain't ready
for that bullshit.
Niggaz ain't gone tolerate no bullshit so when cuz come home we
got alot of cats backing him.
Dubcnn: Tell me the story when Sway was on the
streetz and you saved him from some kids jumpin him?
I was at a umm.. It was actually a thang for power 106 and I was
really dabblin about the rap thing I wasn't real serious about it
I was with the baker boys.
I knew Sway's voice I didn't know who he was he weren't on tv then
it was a dude I heared on the radio.
Well he was hosting the show also and as Im walking outside with
my homeboy Puppet I see the dude I had just heared on the mic. Im
like yea it must be the dude I heared on the radio I saw some cats
tripping with him and his potna and another female was walking to
the car you know.
I think he was a little out of his area he was
in a rough neighbourhood and the situation was about to escelate
to a more like a jacking not like a beat down but who knows where
it could have went .
But I saw what was about to go you know I saw that he was crazy
out numbered so me and my homeboy innercieted put it like this dude
said he ain't never seen nobody in his life step into a situation
and end it so fast you know fysically.
We didn't even click there we didn't even exchange nr's it was just
like you know Super Hood to the rescue.
We didn't see eachother again til probably about two weeks before
I got shot in 2000 my homeboy Kilo ran into him and told me he was
inside of a club.
When he came out we hugged introduced eachother for sure this time
exchanged nr's and a couple of weeks later I got shot and I was
in a koma and he had dedicated his whole show to me.
I didn't get a chance to hear the show because I was in one hell
of a sleep that's what koma's do to you. Dude had sent some well
wishes to my hospital bed when I came home he was right there. I
had a welcome home party he was right there.
When he got the job at MTV you know we stayed tight we still tight
to this day. My daughters know him I know he got a daughter I hang
out with them you know we're like cousins.
Dubcnn: What is the exact release date for Hood
Hitz?
It is officially June 22nd that's the album and DVD! It ain't getting
pushed back it will be in your stores it will be on your websites.
Got a paypal account make it simple I luckily walked into the deal
not owing the record company no money so this album will be everywhere.
From 9.99 to 13.99. I wanted to make sure I did a deal where I kept
the cost so low so my album wouldn't be sitting there.
People think because your album sitting there for 17.99 means you're
doing something na that mean you own the record company a shit load
of money.
Well I don't owe the record company nothing because I do partnerships.
When are you gonna be able to get an album and dvd for less than
15 dollars?
It will be available at WCA westcoastaftershock their doing a page
for me so that way anywere anytime folks can grab the album.
I think it's gone be 13.99 shipping included because to ship to
europe ain't no joke.
Im probably looking at a dollar in profit after shipping but I don't
care that's enough for me we got some artists making 8 cents so
a dollar to me is just fine.
Dubcnn: What lable is distrobuting it and will
it be available in all stores?
It's Excedense their out of the Bay..actually Ima make this simple
what I don't do is record deals. From day one Ive never done a record
deal. My first deal was with sony my second was with southwest,
this deal Im partnering it up with a company Excedence owned by
Sean Scyk.
If you learn your business you ain't gotto sit here and pay a distributor
27% to distribute your records so what we did is we did coops where
this is what we give you the records for this is what we want back.
You ain't gotto press it up for me you ain't gotto do nothing.
It's independant but still with that majour push behind it and we're
in total control so the only person who Im really partners with
Excedence they make sure it gets distributed in whatever areas it
needs to get.
Dubcnn: Is this album any diferent compared to
your first 2 albums?
I believe it is you know when I did "Thundadome" I came
home I was fighting a very very serious case at the time so I was
pissed and I was pressed for time think everybody was impressed
that I finnished the album in 11 days because I was about to go
to jail.
That was a world record for someone to knockout an album with so
many guestfeatures in less than a couple of weeks but again if you
go back and listen to "Thundadome" I was a pissed off
young dude just screaming about anything I mean my points was foreal
wasn't nothing I said bullshit but it was alot of anger and then
"Goin Headup" was another album that I kinda rushed it.
Same thing I was fighting a case and then this album it was like
not again man Im fighting a case but I ain't gone rush nothing I
gotto go when I gotto go. My lawyer stayed behind me told me to
stay calm I took my time I worked on this album atleast for about
a good year. People know I used to finnish an album in a month it
was like you know what Im not going too.
This cases ain't going nowhere so I guess I gotto do what I gotto
do and people will notice the difference is that it's alot calmer
album you know what I mean theres still bangers on there... ridiculous
head bangers on there..
We got like 3 rock joints on there I don't think people used to
hear me I think they know my voice can always get down but didn't
know I really do it.
Typical smooth hood joints and it's hard I think every artist does
this "oh yea this ones better than" I don't wanna say
it's better than because I think every album is a legend in it's
own if you really believe in your craft. I wanna say it's more unique.
Dubcnn: So how many songs did you make at first
before you took some off the album?
We ended up making about 52 joints just to break in we got it down
to 30 then we got it down to 20 something.
The album was gonna be 21 but we figured out we couldn't fit em
on there so we had to squeez in 17.
So most likely Ima have another album droppin in about 6 months.
I got alot of material. People wonder how 2pac was able too...
I used to doubt him like man is dude alive how does he keep so many
songs? But me and my daughters went in my garage.
I just bought
a new house we in the garage when I looked through spool after spool
of cd's man I swear to god I probably got another 200 songs easily.
Im like this if I die yall better make some money off me.
Dubcnn: I hope it don't happen though be safe.
Yea yea for sure
Dubcnn: How did you comeup with the name Glass
house recordings for your lable?
Glasshouse actually stands for my little brother. His name is Glass
House you know we're not real tight I always looked out for him
as kids. But you know family situations broke us up. And it's like
a dedication to my little brother man stay outthere stay strong
stay positive.
Thats his hood name he's actually from a rival gang I always felt
like I had to look over him, lookout over him.
We ain't real tight now but I don't think we ever will be the way
we used to but he'll have something that will live on for life,
he can show his kids my nickname actually stood for something.
I felt like let me do this for him at the time I started taking
this rap serious and started my own lable he was incarcerated and
he was faced with alot of years you know I helped him fight the
case but you know nomatter what else fails your name gone be legendary.
And I ain't wanted it to being tied for being legendary for being
a killer or for being a gangbanger you know your name gone have
some royalty to it. Your name was tied to a successful record company.
You know alot of folks don't know my family life.
Which I don't get to deep into but you know he stay with my mother.
My mothers of a German descent, she's a white woman and my fathers
latin.
He's from Ecuador my little brother had a different father.. My
mother was a..she's a woman of the evening.. Woman of the evening
means she was a gentleman pleaser you know Im not doing an Eminem
you can't dissrespect somebody you don't really know.
So I don't really know her like that but that's what she comes from
so we all got a little mixtures up in us. I've never met my pops
before you know I just know what he is or what I was told he is
but everybody that has that "Goin Headup" album look at
it again and you gone notice Im the only one on there with blonde
her green eyez you know but he's home (Glasshouse).
He lives with my mother and he just took on a little different charachteristics
more of that eastside groungier gangbangin style. I took more of
that money perspective you know westside style you know he's home
like I said I know I repeated a few times but there's no bond.
I mean I took care of something for him that I felt like he wasn't
to greatful man you don't ever disrespect the hang that feeds you
and somebody that unconditionally shows love for you so I wish him
nothing but the best man stays healthy stays out of jail but I never
thought of once changing the Glasshouse name..
Like "oh Im hot at him so Ima go change the name" that's
like being mad at one of your children and you know not claiming
them.
Ima claim the name proudly because it comes from a young soldier
who Im just not clicking with right now thats all.
Dubcnn: How many units have you sold of your older
albums?
Of Thundadome I think we did close to a 100 000, Goin Headup I
know I did a door shot before the ink dried on the album. We did
a deal with southwest I guess they went through some financial problems
you know.
Im sure they meant well but I don't give you your out the trunk
underground album I give you big albums big features I guess they
couldn't keep the support behind it.
It was dissappointing because it was a big album for me so I took
my lumps and kept on moving. So I don't know how many units we sold
on that one. But I tell you something I don't really trip off "Man
I need to sell..I gotto go gold" you gotto go gold when you
gotto pay somebody back you gotto go platinum when you gotto pay
somebody back.
I ain't gotto pay nobody back so I don't care if I sell 40 000 -
50 000 records I get rich selling that many records. Because I don't
owe nobody.
Dubcnn: In what ways have you grown as a artist
and as a person since your last album?
Yea I would say my temper. It's been the biggest thing that needed
to change. Stan Sheppard said something to me once he said: "Man
you gonna make it very far in this game but you're gonna end very
fast if you don't calm your temper because you take things to literal."
Literal is literally somebody say literally speaking and you take
it serious or you tell me the sky is blue man Im not expecting it
to change nothing else but blue. So when you tell me something I
take your word on it and I have to recognize thats not the way the
record business works.
90% of these cats out here lying. 90% of these don't want you to
succeed they want the fight to be so strong and the struggle to
be so strong because it makes them look like they earned something
so I had to learn.
You know what bro what they won't do you gotto
step up your game 10 times over and make sure you do it. I just
had to calm down alot thats all. Learn my craft a little bit better,
if you want the people to listen to your record you gotto give them
a reason to listen to your record.
Dubcnn: Yea thats right thats right whats the
best thing about LA and california in general that the others aint
got shit on?
Man you know what I been to Miami I been to texas, I've been to
my fair share of towns but I can never ever leave Los Angeles because
where else could you go and in a matter of minutes you in a whole
nother neighbourhood or a whole nother town.
What you think you heared about Crenshaw you probably heared it
from some dude who just drove down Crenshaw you know I was born
and raised worked in Crenshaw, did my dirt on Crenshaw, did my good
on Crenshaw, made love on Crenshaw I won't say made love or nothing
but did the damn thang in the back of some car on Crenshaw you know
what I mean.
Dubcnn: *laughs* yea!
Had a couple of businesses on Crenshaw and you can literally take
Crenshaw to Hollywood, you can take Hollywood to the Valley.
When you live in another certain town you gotto go to another town
what's beautiful about Los Angeles is you in another town but you're
still in Los Angeles.
Dubcnn: You got China Town too right?
Oh man you know back in the day I used go outthere to get my little
karate shoes think I was doing the damn thang because I just watched
Konfuiator plus I guess thats how I got my taste for the asian women
but LA's a beautiful town and I deferented my life can't imagine
leaving Los Angeles.
I was born and raised in it I appreciate it I wish it was alot calmer
where I can stay right there in it but it ain't Im still in LA county
but Im a little further to the north.
Dubcnn: Any last words for your fans?
For one I don't have no fans I got cuzzins like you my cuzzin they
my cuzzins the word fans just irritates the shit out of me I don't
wanna thank God..
Like I hear alot of cats "Oh first I wanna thank God"
I won't even go there I wanna thank the folks that go outthere and
buy my record. The biggest thank you I gotto give is you man and
the whole European that I didn't even know existed.
Thats still with me that tough I gotto thank yall before I thank
anybody. I didn't really go outthere and do nothing I went outthere
for a few weeks and now I got years worth of love from yall so cats
better wake up because alot of love outthere in europe.
That you got folks hungry for real hiphop that be around this real
culture so I wanna thank yall. My man Sean Scyke who believed in
me. To just a man with no strenght just ok Caz lets do it.
You know Stan Sheppard for always staying down with me. My man Smith!
Please print this I've been going to the same studio I spent 28
000 dollars on my first album which was unheared of.
You know albums caught 100 000 atleast record companys wanna make
you believe that. For the last 3 years I've been recording in the
same studio where Mambo from Q1047, it's a big radio station out
here in LA county, he owns the house along with Dj Scratch.
B ut this kid by the name of Smith who has never in his life asked
for a dollar..We're not the best of friends we don't hang out we
just got a common love for eachother. This dude believes in me that's
the biggest person because without that dude or without that studio
I probably be constantly diggin in my pockets.
This dude has always looked out for me so Ima keep recording my
albums there and to my kids man I got 3 beautiful daughters actually
I have another daughter on the way so. Your boy Caz almost go a
little softball team my daughters are Tie, Sky, Caz and Ariana you
know.
I love them, Ariana will be with us in about a month but she better
hurry up and get here. Me and her mom didn't work out to each full
but Im sure we gone raise a beautiful child.
All the folks from the 805 to 808, 213 to the 606 to 510's to 650's
I mean I love yall through and through and I ain't going nowhere.
Caz ain't going on nomore vacations and we gone make sure we really
bang this til the roofs fall off.
