Dubcnn: What you been up too?
How you been man?
I’ve been good man but right now I’ve been working on this Get It Boys
Project! You know my clique the Get It Boys which consist of me, my older
brother OG, my two younger cousins and Famous. My homeboy MC and my other
homeboy L from the hood.
We been working on the Get It Boys project and we’re doing a photo shoot
tomorrow and you probably gone be hearing and seeing more of the project next
year.
Dubcnn: Is the album going to be Called Geto Boy?
No I’m not sure what the album is going to be called yet I think I want to
call it “Get Your Money Right” but I don’t know yet.
Dubcnn: Okay let’s go way back. Where did you get your name Chingy from?
It’s actually saying that me and my homeboys used to say for like people with
money.
Dubcnn: Who influenced you to start rappin?
Actually man it was something I just grew into you know I was a big hip-hop
fan at a young age like Run DMC, Grand Master Flash, Kool Moe Dee, Big Daddy
Kane, Big Daddy Kane, DJ Quik, NWA, LL Cool J. You know I was real into
hip-hop at a young age so I kind of grew to loving it and have a passion for
it and it was just something I wanted to do.
Dubcnn: You know when I first heard your first big single called “I Like
That” and then later on heard you with DJ Quik I was like you must be
influenced by West Coast Hip-Hop is that right?
Yeah I was definitely influenced by the West Coast Hip-Hop and East Coast
Hip-Hop and something out of everywhere but a lot of my favourite artists come
from the West Coast and like where I’m from we have like more of the same
mentality as West Coast you know what I mean?
Dubcnn: Yeah
So that’s where most of our mentalities come from.
Dubcnn: A lot of your fans emailed me asking if you could do an album with
DJ Quik, like a full album with DJ Quik; would you consider doing that?
A full album with DJ Quik?
Dubcnn: Yeah like have him produce the majority of the songs or something?
Yeah you know right now DJ Quik is a friend of mine and you know I wouldn’t
mind doing that it’s just all about our work schedules and how it would come
together.
Dubcnn: Okay, did you record any older songs with Quik that didn’t make the
album?
Actually I recorded a couple of songs with Quik that didn’t go on the album. I
recorded like 2 songs with him.
Dubcnn: Oh where can we see that end up?
Hmm I don’t know what I’m going to do with them songs.
Dubcnn: You had Tyrese on your album. Can we expect you on Tyrese’s
upcoming album?
Yeah I did a song with Tyrese on his album. It should be on there.
Dubcnn: What’s the name of the song?
The name of the song is “You Scurred”
Dubcnn: The new album that you got out right has 2 different kind of
styles. You got the club side and you got the hood side. What made you go with
those different routes?
Actually I kind of got that when I was listening to the album... I was already
going to call it Hoodstar but I kind of got that from the title. I heard the
songs that were more hardcore, more street oriented and a bunch of party songs
and all that. So I kind of just separated all the songs and made it into this
you know what I mean?
Dubcnn: Yeah and what song is real special to you on the album?
The song “Cadillac Door”!
Dubcnn: Why is that?
Because it’s dealing with like my past, my past experiences struggling and
just trying to make it in this business and just tragedies in my life with
family, friends and just getting different jobs and getting fired from
different jobs. Hustling in the street you know all that past struggles that I
kind of went through. That’s basically what that song is about and it’s more
of a personal song than anything.
Dubcnn: You worked with a lot of producers and rappers over the years would
you like to do a collabo album with anyone that you haven’t worked with?
Actually I want to work with Dr Dre! I want to work with Dr Dre and 50 Cent
and I want to work with Alicia Keys. There’s a couple of people man; Mariah
Carey…
Dubcnn: I’m sure it’s going to happen soon.
Oh yeah I’m definitely working on it.
Dubcnn: If you weren’t successful in this rap game what would you be doing?
If everything wouldn’t have worked out man I probably would have went to
school and to college and try to do something or I might be hustling in the
streets or just trying to find a way to eat.
Dubcnn: When can we catch you on tour out here in Europe?
Soon hopefully I probably be doing that after I do the tour out here in
January in The States.
Dubcnn: That would be tight man when you come out here.
Oh yeah man that would be beautiful.
Dubcnn: The artists aren’t selling as much as they used too, what do you
think is the main cause for that?
It’s too much downloading and they can get the music in too many different
ways now so if I can go on something and download a song I like of yours
without buying the album or whatever, they do that or they just get burned
CD’s or anything like that so I think that has a lot to do with why artists
are not really selling that much.
Dubcnn: But do you think it helps some artists too? Is it just negative or
positive in some ways too?
I don’t really think it helps, it takes away from the artist. It takes away
from the artist not selling.
Dubcnn: What do you do when you aren’t writing songs? What do you do in
your spare time?
I like to go to the movies man and I like to shoot darts and just hang out
with my people but a lot of this happens in the studio because that’s what I
love to do.
Dubcnn: Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
10 years from now I’ll be running my record company helping other artists and
have a couple different businesses going on, franchises and just being a
businessman and getting money!
Dubcnn: Okay the last question I want to ask you is with Global Warming that’s
threatening the planet, what do you do to help make a change and can you give
any advice as too what people should do to help the planet?
What you should do to help is not pollute it and as far as us being human
beings and as far as us on Earth that have to live everyday I think the
government and those people should look more into that situation.
I mean really really really take care of the earth and the planet and what
revolves around it. You know we can only do so much being everyday folks
living here but the president and the government and all them, that’s
something they need to work on and we’re really not in position too...I mean
we can try to make a statement and go protest and go do something to say stop
this but 9 times out of 10 they have to take on their responsibility since
they got the power over us.
Dubcnn: Alright man that’s about it. Do you have any last words for the
fans?
Hoodstar album is in stores. If you ain’t got it go get it! Look out I got a
men’s clothing line coming out in the winter called Red Marine the women
clothing line called Pink Monkey so look out for that.
Just look out for the Get It Boy project coming out in stores and that’s it. I
appreciate everybody’s support.
