Dubcnn: What's up, I'm with Darnell Bing, how's it going man?
Darnell: It's going pretty good, thank you.
Dubcnn: So, we're at a charity event right now. Tell us a little bit about it, what it's for?.
Darnell: It's a little bowling event for Down Syndrome. I feel like it's just something I wanted to get into because I had a younger cousin I grew up with who ended up dying. She had Down Syndrome, it hit pretty close to home. So, I feel like this is something I need to do and give back to that community; just being the fact that I've been involved with that since my young childhood. Just wanted to give back to them.
Dubcnn: Definitely. I know you have a lot of athletes that came out to show support. Tell us how that came about and who they were.
Darnell: Most of the guys that's here are guys I've played with, played against. So, we all pretty much all just built a friendship playing with each other. I asked to come down and they all came down to support.
Dubcnn: That's great. Is it a foundation or are you just doing this one event?
Darnell: Actually, I'm doing this for the Down Syndrome Association of Los Angeles. I'm here with Gail who works with them.
Dubcnn: Do you have any more stuff planned as far as fund raising?
Darnell: As of right now, this is my main focus. I'm hoping to do something else. Basically, I'm just focusing on this and getting ready for this upcoming season.
Dubcnn: Tell us about your background.
Darnell: I went to USC, played safety there all American, got drafted by the Raiders in 2006 in the 4th round, and from there I pretty much bounced around a little bit. I went from Oakland to San Francisco to Detroit to Houston. Right now, I'm currently a free agent just waiting to get back out there.
Dubcnn: So, are you from L.A.?
Darnell: Yes, I grew up in the Compton area, but went to school in Long Beach.
Dubcnn: So Gail, tell us a bit about this event.
Gail Williamson: Hi, my name is Gail Williamson and I'm one of the directors of the Down Syndrome association of Los Angeles. My work here today is the lucky beneficiary of Darnell Bing's fundraiser. We're out here bowling. We brought a couple of kids with Down Syndrome and a few adults to help with that. If you want more information about what we do to meet the needs of people with Down Syndrome of Los Angeles County, you can find us on the World Wide Web at dsla.org and you can come out and join us in some of the amazing activities that we do. We got an art program, a music program, a sports program; we're going to be doing yoga soon. You name it; we're doing it because people with Down Syndrome are more alike than different. Thanks for being here today with us.
Dubcnn: Thank you for your time.
