--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
dubcnn.com: For all of those who
don't know you yet, introduce yourself and let us know where you from.
Man, I'm DK All Day, I'm originally from Ingelwood, and I've been all around
Cali and I'm representin' just California, period.
dubcnn.com: You're a producer, how did you get started?
Oh man, when I was very young man, I was always excited about the whole
turntable DJ'ing thing, so I started actually DJ'ing first. I was a DJ first,
and after DJ'ing, I met somebody named Anthony Collin, who is a DJ from New
York and he was making some beats. So he taught me how to make beats man.
That's how I really started way back in like '88, that's when I got my first
drum machine, which was a SP 12. And I always wanted to do it from then on.
dubcnn.com: Who were your main influences coming up?
Marley Marl, DJ Premier, Dr. Dre, and as I got older with time, Timbo.
dubcnn.com: Which projects have we heard you on until now?
I appeared... My first placement was on a guy named Aaron Sky on Red End
Records.
dubcnn.com: Have you been on anything else other than that?
Oh yeah, many records! I've done Lil Zane, I produced for him, I produced for
Kurupt, I produced for Guerilla Black, Yukmouth, Baby S, Athena Cage, uhm, I
did a pop group called EYC...
dubcnn.com: Who was your favorite artist to work with up until now?
Ludacris.
dubcnn.com: You hooked up with Ludacris for the song Child Of The Night. How
did that get hooked up?
Well that was all basically on my homeboy Poon Daddy, give it up to Poon
Daddy. Poon Daddy made that whole thing happen for me, it's a old school homie,
and I linked up with him in Atlanta before Ludacris was Ludacris. They had a
show together it was Poon Daddy & Cris Lova Lova, and I used to do radio drops
over there. Poon put that together, Poon Daddy.
dubcnn.com: It is rumoured to be the 2nd single, is that true?
Nah, actually, the 2nd single is the song produced by Timbaland, they're out
here shooting the video probably this weekend.
dubcnn.com: You're from Ingelwood, how do you feel about the mainstream
presence of the West?
I feel like, there isn't really a presence, but I do think that there is alot
of cats out there on the rise and we're about to bring this whole West Coast
thing back, you know? But I just think that there is no presence right now
unless you're coming off of Dr. Dre. But there are alot of other artists out
there ready to come, it's just that L.A. has to accept it.
dubcnn.com: So what do you think it'll take for the West to get together and
rise again?
Man, I think that we all need to get together and everybody let go off their
ego's and just get together and form as a unit. And just all get together and
we can bring it back. For example it's too many chiefs and not enough indians.
dubcnn.com: I feel you. Everybody's beefin' with each other, nobody's
supportin' each other.
Right! Exactly! And until that happens, that's what it's gonna take. Radio,
DJ's all get together to support this movement that we have going.
dubcnn.com: Are your beats typical West, or how would you describe them?
Man I can go to any level. I can go East Coast, West Coast, whatever. I'm Hip
Hop. I'm HipHop. Back in the day, wether you listened to Marley Marl or King
Tee, it wasn't about that. It's about being able to go to any sound. I can get
down on any sound!
dubcnn.com: What equipment do you use?
I use a MPC 3000, and a program called Reasons. Along with a SE 1, you now.
dubcnn.com: Do you play any instruments?
Yeah, I play the keyboards.
dubcnn.com: And did you ever try to rap?
No, but you know what? I'm writing verses as of right now. So I'ma eventually
come out with some records myself! DK All Day the producer and artist.
*laughs*
dubcnn.com: Which artists would you like to collaborate with?
Man, I wanna collaborate with Jay-Z, Xzibit, Jadakiss, Missy Elliot, who
else... Mos Def! A Tribe Called Quest!
dubcnn.com: You're also getting ready to release a mixtape, can you tell us
what it's called?
Yeah! Basically the mixtape it's gonna be showcasing alot of the newer MC's
from around L.A., from L.A. to San Bernardino to Orange County. But the main
purpose of the mixtape is to showcase the things that I have worked on in the
past and the future.
dubcnn.com: What's it called?
It's gonna be the "The All Day Mixtape".
dubcnn.com: Who's gonna be featured on there?
Artists like Kurupt, Bad Azz, Lil Zane, Yukmouth, Guerilla Black, Athena Cage,
E-40, you know, all the people I've worked with.
dubcnn.com: All produced by you?
Yes!
dubcnn.com: So what else can people expect from you 2005?
Oh man, what's gonna happen man, I'm really workin' on an artist named Young
Case, and I'm also from a family called The Himalayaz.
dubcnn.com: I was in touch with one of those dudes a few years ago...
Well all the stuff that you heard with them, I produced on. I produced all the
Himalayaz stuff, that's like my family. Mr. Mash and Himalayaz are the Roots
of my beginning. And we have a artist out that camp that I'm really focusing
on, and I think that he has the possibility to bring the West Coast back, his
name is Young Case.
dubcnn.com: So you're gonna be working with Young Case..
And I'm also gonna be working on the next Ludacris album! I'll be working with
Big Reg, and I also got some things in the works where I'll be working with
Twista. But that's not for sure yet, but we definitely workin' on it. The
money is there for him to do it. Twista, and I'm just trying to see man, I
don't wanna put all my eggs in one basket man, who knows what's gonna happen.
It's just alot of blessings going on right now. And I'm willing to accept any
and every one of them. *laughs*
dubcnn.com: Well that's about it for the questions, is there anything else
that you would like to let everybody out there know:
I wanna send out a couple shoutouts, is that cool?
dubcnn.com: Yeah sure, go ahead!
Shoutout to God, and I wanna give a shoutout to my boy Mash first for him
hooking this up for me. And I wanna say wassup to Bambino, to my boy Amil G,
Kickback, Young Case, my boy Mark Brown & TK from Ball'r Records. Those are my
cats. I wanna give it up to my boy MJ at Platinum Music Group, and I-15, and
my cousin Mio out here, he's a sick engineer. And this is the last one, my
girl Sabrine.
dubcnn.com: Aight fo sho, I appreciate you taking the time to answer the
questions!
Ay man, thank you, thank ya'll! Thank you for interviewing me, and just a
shoutout to you, dogg, for real! For lookin' out for me man, I really really
really appreciate this.
