Dubcnn: First and Foremost, Thank you for taking the time to speak with us
today…. since most people are familiar with your resume, give our readers a
brief rundown of how you got started, as well as a peek at your resume?
I come from a real musical family…there were always records being
played in the house, then in high school I was in a group and we would go
and perform all over. Then we made our to the BRE convention in Washington
D.C. where long story short Eddie F. ended giving me my big break
To answer your question, however I worked on Usher’s first single called
“Think of You” that I co-wrote with Faith Evans, I also worked on Bedtime
Stories for Madonna, and 702 to name a few.
Dubcnn: It’s been a minute since your last release “Journey of A
Gemini” but I see that you’ve been active with release like “The Lost Files”
and now “Lyrics” how have these efforts been received by the fans
It’s been a blessing. The true fans have been truly positive and supportive
and treat me as though I never left.
Dubcnn: The hip-hop crowd may very well remember your massive hit
“You Know What’s Up” featuring Left Eye (R.I.P) how was it working with her
on that record?
We didn’t work together in the studio on that record but it was a good look
to have her on the record, because her group TLC just had a big hit with “No
Scrubs”, plus it was something for the clubs.
Dubcnn: You were also the featured vocalist on Big Pun’s last
official single “It’s So Hard” how was that experience?
We actually were in the studio for that record, at the Hit Factory in New
York it was like a party, all of his Terror Squad crew were there, I had my
crew with me, we had ladies and some drinks, it was like an event.
Dubcnn: Since you are both writer, as well as producer, which do you
prefer over the other?
I actually believe they go hand in hand…so I can choose one over the other I
like them both.
Dubcnn: Let’s get into the new album “Lyrics” recently released on
your own imprint “CandyMan music, Inc.” what’s the vibe fans can expect on
this new album?
I’m basically picking up where I left off, from the last album “Journey of A
Gemini” and giving the fans what they want and expect from me, the only
record of the new album that’s a little different from the rest of the album
would be the track ‘What’s Next’ featuring Inessa.
Dubcnn: What’s up with the time lapse between your last album and
this one? Your fans wanted some of the good music?
Basically when I dropped my last studio album “Journey of a Gemini” I felt
the label I was on at the time didn’t really give the push I felt it
deserved, so I basically was waiting out my contract, so that was basically
it.
Dubcnn: I read in your bio that you had no interest in keeping up
with the ever-changing climate of music, and prefer to do what you do best,
which is good R&B? any particular incident happened to cause you to feel
this way?
I have no problem doing any type of music that’s out there but I don’t wanna
step away from what it is that I do, I know what I am good at doing.
Dubcnn: Your current single and video for ‘Love Like This’ is
getting a lot of love out there on the net, so what’s next off the album?
and will there be any other videos?
Yes, the next video from the album will be for the track “All About The Sex”
followed by “Blackmail” I actually plan to have at least 4 videos off of the
album, so the fans can get into the new album
Dubcnn: Since you are now sporting the crown of CEO with your new
label “CandyMan Records, will you be looking for new artists at all?
Well on the new album “Lyrics” I actually have one of my new artist “Inessa”
on a track called ‘What’s Next’. But yes I’m always looking for talent, I
just don’t want a whole bunch of acts at one time.
Dubcnn: As always I like to ask every artist…how can fans or artists
get in touch with you for collabos, etc.?
I can always be reached on Twitter or Facebook and as far as music artists please
submit your best work first.
