Dow Timo Interview
A Dubcnn Exclusive
By: Chad Kiser

.............................................................................................

Dubcnn: What's going on Dow Timo?

Same ol' thang, late nights, early mornings. Fleet Life.

Dubcnn: Let's get right into it. You jumped on the scene with the release of two projects "Leap Year" and "Summertime's Son" what was the premise behind them?

Leap Year was really the Introduction of Dow Timo and is symbolic of the year I stepped up and decided to pursue a serious career in music. Summertimes Son was a birthday gift to myself. With this project I really showed people my versatility as an emcee and indie artist and they loved it [laughing]

Okay, that's what's up I'm glad things turned around, because you initially received some ridicule for your particular style. How did you overcome the initial feedback and continue to move forward?

One word. Perseverance. I wasn't accepted because I didn't sound like everybody else, go figure cookie cut was so serious. But, I can only be me and I can't and won't change that for nobody. Anyways, little by little my "peers" etc. caught up and began to understand where I come from lyrically and now acknowledge and respect my hustle. Every one else can choose to either accept it or move over.

Dubcnn: That's real. How would you describe your style of music?

I make music for the riders, the stunters, the drinkers, smokers. I make fun music, that's me.

Dubcnn: I can definitely dig it. What are your overall career goals?

My overall goals are to fulfil my dreams to the fullest. I'm currently working on expanding my brand and personally interacting with my fans and organizing a cross country tour.

Keep us posted with those show dates! Moving forward, social media has become such a powerful tool for indies looking to gain the attention of the masses. Do you feel if not handled properly it could do more harm than good?

Yeah Definitely! There's a lot of indie’s who mistake spamming for promotion and marketing. If you do it right you will open doors, not close them.

Dubcnn: Is there power in branding?

Absolutely, branding is everything from the street level on up.

Dubcnn: Do you feel it's important for indie artists to cross over into the mainstream lane?

To each is own. Some artist are meant to leave their mark as an indie and gain recognition in that lane and others are destined to headline world tours and go multi-platinum. It's all in the hustle and public's acceptance.

Dubcnn: That's very true. Okay, now every region has had its impact on the hip-hop game at some point. Who do you think's at the head of the class now?

I think there's an overall blend of artist right now. Especially with labels and artists from all regions signing and collaborating with talent from all over the country and globe, instead of just who's in their back yard. But the west is definitely making a comeback on it's own.

Dubcnn: What advice do you have for artists looking to pursue a career in music?

Talent and work ethic make it, not just talent, so work hard.

Dubcnn: So what's going on right now?

Right now I just wrapped up my new mixtape The Fleetlife Vol.1 , and prepping for the release of my latest music video Fuck Yall dropping at the top of March.

Dubcnn: What would you say is the biggest difference between your first projects and this one?

The big difference is a more timely and organized release along with a promotion and marketing plan opposed to just blindly dropping the project. Proper preparation.

Dubcnn: We definitely look forward to the release. Before we go where can people stay up-to-date with Dow Timo?
