      Dubcnn.com got the chance to speak with San Diego native Jayo Felony. He spoke to us about growing up, his past and future releases, the deal with Daz, the westcoast in general and much more in this indepth interview! Nima : Where in San Diego are you from, and what set do you claim?

I'm from South East San Diego, Neighbourhood Crips.


Nima : Tell us about San Diego, how was it growin' up there?

It was, you know, just ghetto, wild, the average ghetto shit, you know what I mean? Growin' up, livin' through poverty, and just gangbangin' and shit like that. Just the wild typa South East, you know what I mean, that's where all these gangs at, East San Diego and South East San Diego.


Nima : How did you get into the rap game, and why?

I mean, it's just basically, most people get in the game because of where they grow up at, if you grow up in that area, 9 times outta 10 thats where you gone be from, that's basically how its done. You know, you're just out to join a gang, and the people that's where you grew up at, that's 9 times outta 10 where you're gonna be from.


Nima : Tell us what happened with Def Jam Records?

Uhh, you know, basically, it was just me myself as a young artist, I just needed somebody to represent my career, and to fight my battles for me instead of me tryna fight my battles myself. So as me maturin' and gettin' older and seein' what's goin' on in the game, everything wasn't Def Jams fault, you know what I mean? Alot of it had to do wit my representation, and needin the right people behind me to push my career where it needed to be, you know what I mean? So, you know, we all know how they treat the West Coast, actin' like it was all my fault, but you know, sometimes relationships don't work how they supposed to and you gotta move on!


Nima : How's things goin' for Loco Records?

They goin' pretty good man! I'm just in the middle of gettin' a new situation, you know for the distribution of the company, and you know I got alotta records done as far as me as a artist, got alotta projects done right now, I'm just tryna find the right machine to be a part of it, and I just wanna have the support, from whatever distributor I sign with, I just want them to have my back and support me to the fullest, and make me the premiere artist so I can push my line, and do what I wanna do!

Nima : I heard you just signed with a big label, Universal I think...

Oh right now we just tryna work the deal out, you know what I mean? Nothin is set strong yet, we just workin' out the details, but they definitely lookin' forward to doin' a deal with me, you know, as well a couple other companies, so we just tryna find who gone give us the best situation and the most on the back hand, you know?


Nima : What happened between you and Mitchy Slick?

Nuttin' really happened between me and Mitchy Slick, I don't really know the guy personally like that.. I never really heard none of his music or nothin' like that so I'm not really too familiar with him as far as bein' a artist or bein' a rapper, you know what I mean? I heard his names a couple times, you know thats just the end of it so.. As far as me havin' problems with the guy, or me and him goin' thru anything, I never even seen the guy personally, so I'm on some whole other shit right now, you know what I mean? And that's like, real small, because I'm not tryin' get nobody no light, I'm just tryna do my thang, you know?

Nima : So there wasn't no fight or anything.

Na, I've never even seen that guy before.

Nima : Cause there were rumours that Mitch hit your jaw and he got you pretty bad... So none of that is true?

Man, people believe rumours everyday.. I be signin' to Death Row, I be all that.. If people wanna believe rumours, then that's what they do, you know? If a muthafucka hit me in my face, I don't think they'd be braggin' about it, and like I said I ain't ever seen the guy a day in my life, I never heard none of his music, so rumour is one thing, you let a muthafucka know that hit me in my face and they live to tell about it, and they mouth ain't crooked or something.. then thats BULLSHIT! I ain't the one to be played with man, I ain't even got to try to make the next muthafucka look bad, I don't even gotta try to sweat no nigga, but I ain't the one that's gettin' socked up, I don't play those typa games... If a muthafucka that hard to do something' like that do me, I'll stop rappin' homie! I'll be out the game if that ever happen to me homie! And that's on Crip!


Nima : Are we going to see a Criminalz Vol. 2 album? And how come you weren't on the cover of Vol. 1?

Because that wasn't never a group.. And I wasn't part of no group, I just appeared on the album and did songs with the cats, that was just the end of it, you know what I mean? Them is my folks, but its like, I'm tryna do bigger and better things..

Nima : But are we ever goin' to see a Criminalz Vol. 2?

Nah, I mean there wasn't no Criminalz Vol 1 as far as I'm concerned, you know? Its just a project that I did songs on, and that was just the end of it.. There wasn't ever no group or nothin' like that.

Nima : It was bangin' though! You should think about it..

Yeah it was tight, you know what I'm sayin, but like I said, I'm tryina do bigger and better things right now, you know?


Nima : Will we see you hookin' up with Dago artists such as The Relativez, Lil Rob, Cricet and others?

Naw, right now I'm just doin' my shit, doin' the Du Low Gang shit, and I got my lil homie comin' outta San Dago, Young Nube you know what I mean? He bout to do his thang, and the Du Low Gang, you know what I mean? Right now I'm just doin' my thang tryna blow up Jayo Felony. Everything else is secondary right now, it's finally time for me, to be heard by my fans and for me to drop records consecutively, like people been waitin' for me to do, and I'm bout to have a siatuation where I'm in control of my own destiny, and the be albe to put out records, and alotta people gone be outta the job, so I don't give a fuck about rumour's, about who's sayin' what, the niggaz know how I am, the niggaz know how I do it, and now I'm hot on the streets, and ain't nobody gone disrespect me to my face, they can do it behind my back all day because that's what cowards do, but when it comes to a muthafucker confronting' me or ever gettin' in my face, they will definitely be checked, and be handled accordingly homie, period. I don't play no games like that!


Nima : How is your relationship with Lil CS? I heard your going' on a Australia Tour with him soon!

Yeah, we bout to do it big, you know what I mean, that's my folks, and I'm here to let you know man, he know what typa muthafucka I am, and he keep his ear to the streets, so you wanna ask him about any type of motherfucker puttin' their hands on me, man you can ask him and see what he say about it.. But I'ma let you know, if any motherfucker slappin' or puttin' their hands on somebody, I'ma be doin' it homie!! It ain't gone be the other way around homie, EVER!


Nima : When is "Hogg Tied" dropping and what's gone be on it?

Hogg Tied is just a song on my new album, but my albums is called "In Da Trenches", that's the name of my new album. It's just no holds barred, I'm just lettin' motherfuckers know how I do it, and just gone get out there and promote my new album, it's comin' out this summer, and people gone really, really finally see what I'm about, and finally get the promotion and marketing' it deserves, so I can be out here, like the rest of these cats that's sellin' multiple platinum records. So now finally its my time, and by the time my album come out everybody gone be waitin' for it, and it's gone be a big thang you know what I mean? For not only the Coast, but HipHop in general! Because I feel HipHop in general needs a album like this, needs a artist like this, that's gone let it be known, and let it be known what time it is in the game and what's goin' on you know what I mean? And show the world what's crackin', because alotta these muthafuckers out here talkin' shit about what they do, and this and this and that, but at the end of the day, these motherfuckers can't rap, you know what I mean? So you know, the real is gone speak for itself man!


Nima : Who did you hook up with as far as production goes?

Right now I got my boy Meech, he made alotta of the album.. Not Meech Wells, this other cat named Meech, he made alotta of the album, you know he did alotta shit for Pac's Makaveli album, then I got DJ Silk who did shit for Whatcha Gonna Do, and I got my boy Twenty, he's a producer on Kam's stuff, I got my boy T-Funk, that was originally makin' music wit me from the gate, make the Take A Ride album and all that shit, so I'm just goin' back to the basics man and get down wit the producers that I been ought to work with, just comin' with a whole new sound, and a new energy to the game!


Nima : Who is part of the Du Lo Gang?

Man, I got my boy Crook, he's rap will be on a couple of my albums, we gettin his stuff together, then I got my boy Spider, then I got my boy Non Stop, you know, it's gone be hot man!! Then I got a hot artist thats nine years old called Young Nube from the Du Lo Gang you know what I mean? He's puttin his project together, so I got a couple tricks up my sleeve man, it's gone be real fun..


Nima : Will we see an album soon?

Yeah the Du Lo Gang album will probably come out beginning of the year, beginning of the 2004, you know we just gone set it up right, make sure the politics and the business right on it and then we gone drop that album. But it's definitely comin' after the Into Trenches album, I go the Du Lo Gang coming after that. And let it be know man, I ain't playin' with these streets, and I'm bout to show these motherfuckers what time it is.. I'ma let you know like this man, my true fans know how I do it, and I ain't playin' no games, you know what I'm sayin', I might disappear from the game for a year or two or whatever because the game is so funny and simple man, but now I'm about to get in the game and I'm stayin' in the game, and I'm bout to put these records out, back to back and go hard in the pain, and show these niggaz what I'm made of. When the chips fall we gone see what's crackin, let these motherfuckers know! I mean every local motherucker, to every motherfucker thats my folks, or enemy gone get shut down, and anybody that ever said anything about me, just know I got records comin' out dissin' everybody that ever said anything about Jayo Felony, for anybody that ever had beef with me, the Trenches album is gone shut down any motherfucker I ever had beef with, whether we said it was cool, whether we said it was squashed, I finna go at your motherfucking head, period.


Nima : I know this is old, but can you tell us what happened between you and Jay-Z again?

Uhm you know basically man, I mean I feel at the time when the shit went down I was the only one speakin' up for the WestCoast and bein' an MC, I felt a motherfucker was disrespectin the WestCoast when they said they wear more bling and all that bullshit at the Grammy and SoulTrain, and nigga won't do thang, and that shit is held on the WestCoast, and if that's not a subliminal diss I don't know what it is, and niggas act like they don't know what I'm talkin' bout they can suck my dick! Everybody know the nigga is disrespecting' the WestCoast, and I was the only motherfucker to speak up, so if they don't like it they can kiss my ass!

Nima : Cause alotta people were sayin' you were just doin' it to get attention...

I don't need attention man, I make hit records I don't need no motherfuckin' attention, I don't do shit for attention, you know what I mean? I can make a hot record and thats gone get me all the fuckin' attention I need. I never needed to diss nobody, I been doin' my thang all my fuckin' life. If it was to get attention, I woulda fuckin SLAPPED him, to get attention, I woulda went and slapped the shit outta one of these fuckin' executives, or one of these motherfuckin' so called superstars, if I wanted to get some attention, you know what I mean? I was ridin' for my fuckin' coast, thats what the fuck I was doin', so anybody say I wanted to get attention they can suck my dick too!


Nima : On some mixtape, Daz Dillinger had said he had seen you at a swap meet and that you were scared of him. Is that true?

How could I be scared of a motherfucker that's scared of Suge Knight? How could I be scared of a motherfucker that's been runnin' their whole career and never put in no work, never been no real street motherfucker!! And first of all, how the FUCK could I be scared of him if I'm in a Long Beach Swap Meet? You gotta understand, where the motherfucker said he seen me at, was in Long Beach! I'm not from Long Beach, so if I'm scared, what the fuck I'm doin' in Long Beach Swap Meet? That don't make no sense! And when it comes down to it, that bitch ass nigga can't rap and he's a motherfuckin' square, the nigga changed his game every fuckin' week, first he's from 19th Street, then he from Dubs, nigga make up your motherfuckin' mind homie, nigga this Rich Rollin' 40's nigga and I ain't never changed, never will nigga, you know what I mean? So motherfuckers tryin' to walk up my tree cause they wanna be a motherfucker, and to say about that motherfucker, that motherfucker ain't made a hard beat since Soopafly left him, that nigga ain't had a hard rap since Kurupt left him, so as far as that weenie ass nigga concerned, nigga when you see me see me nigga! Period. He's not even no motherfuckin' threat to me, no type of harm to me, it's nothin' homie! Period. And if he wanna make it technical, I seen the motherfucker again when he was with Bad Azz after Bad Azz got whooped on by Suge and them when Daz was in the backseat with his shirt off lookin' like a fat ass animal or someting, like he was fuckin' on drugs or somethin' like that, that nigga was dehydrated, I'm like what the FUCK wrong wit you nigga lookin' all sloppy like that! If a nigga got problems wit me why the fuck he ain't do nuttin I'm by my motherfuckin' self! But nigga we can rap blast or scrap shoot the body or slap box homie I don't give a fuck, nigga!! Ain't none of them niggas no thread to me. Period. I mean a motherfucker gettin' their little settlement money then tryna walk up my tree, or just like the motherfucker sayin' on the internet and like real motherfuckers sayin' on the internet homie, if a motherfucker walkin' up the wrong tree fuckin' wit Jayo Felony, nigga, cause can none of them niggas rap like me, and they all know it homie!

Nima : So you were there that night that Bad Azz got beat up?

Nah, I wasn't there, but my boy from the Du Lo Gang, my nigga Spider was there.. And he did his thang, you know what I mean? That's my folks tho, you know what I mean? On the real, there's some niggas around here runnin' their mouth, I ain't the one to be played with homie. Period. And as far as Daz go, that nigga got his little settlement money or whatever, keep speakin' his mouth about who he had meetings with, keep my fuckin' name out your mouth!

Nima : And is that Spider you're talkin' about the same Spider that's on Death Row Records?

Yeah, yeah, that's my folks you know what I mean?

Nima : So what's the situation between you, and the whole DPG Clique with Snoop Dogg, Tray Deee and them?

I mean shit is cool man, but its like this, if motherfuckers got issues wit me, I ain't the one to be talkin' behind their back, I ain't the one to be doin' all that gay shit, and if niggas is cool they cool, but as far as me and Daz or whatever, we just need to shoot the fair one and call it a day. Nigga can't rap better than me, nigga can't do shit better than me, so niggas can shoot the fair one and call it a day and motherfuckers keep my name out their mouth! And as far as Tray Deee we can do the same thing, shoot the fair one and call it a day! Because when it come to rappin', can't none of them niggas see me with a 10 foot pole, period. And as far as Daz that nigga need to keep my name out his fuckin' mouth, and stop tellin lies because at the end of the day my two lil homies was wit me and we woulda destroyed that nigga if we wanted to, and then he comin' out like we don't want no beef wit him and all this old gay shit, nigga when it comes to techniquals, you make bread gettin' on niggas songs and all this bullshit.. But then you sit around and say "aww I don't want no beef wit you and whoo whoo". Even that day when we was in the Swap Meet and seen him, this nigga talkin' bout I was bowin' down like "I don't want no problems with you", I don't wanna hear that shit! He try to tell motherfuckers in magazines and shit like I was like "I don't want no beef with you", and "I don't want no beef with Jay-Z" and this and this and that.. And he just told me like "I don't wanna hear that shit" and just walked off, like he was in the Swap Meet and just walked off, like I wouldn't have broke his motherfuckin jaw!!! What the fuck do I look like, nigga? Man my girl is right here with me, she was with me when we was there you know what I mean, in the Long Beach Swap Meet, and this nigga walked up, he asked me for my motherfuckin' 2way number and all that shit homie.. My two lil homies is huge nigga, they woulda destroyed that nigga, if I woulda gave 'em the word, period! That nigga now how I get down, nigga, all runnin from everybody ass nigga. And now he got his little settlement money from suing Suge nigga don't walk up my tree nigga cause this is the wrong tree to walk up on! He need to get his money, go tuck is fuckin' tail off and be the faggot that he is, old drag queen ass nigga...


Nima : Will we see you workin' with E A Ski in future?

Yeah, fo sho, that's my dogg you know what I mean? E A Ski always got the hot tracks, we been workin' together for a while, whenever there's a opportunity to meet again, we gone get down and do our thang! I gotta hook up with him, that's my folks man, he be doin' his thang you know what I mean? I'm glad that we talkin' man, get on the internet and let muthafuckas know you know what I mean? Like I said before on a magazine, we can get on pay per view and shoot and shoot homie, and call it a day!


Nima : Would you hookup with mexican rappers like Mr Shadow or Knightowl?

Yeah yeah fo sho! Me and Knightowl I got some new stuff with Knightowl right now, you know what I'm sayin', on his new album and shit, so you know, niggas is out here doin' it man!

Nima : Mr. Shadow is from Dago too right?

Yeah, Mr Shadow is from Dago... Ay ay, I want you to put someting' else in there about Daz too, hear me? Ask that nigga about a dude named Horse that knocked his bitch ass out! Ask that nigga about a dude named Horse that knocked his bitch ass out! Ask him about that! That ain't a fuckin' rumour! Ask him how he feel when he woke up! Ask him that! And ask him about the fuckin' drag queen that he is!! Ask him that, bitch ass nigga, and tell that nigga this Rich Rollin' 40's where he from? Ask that nigga where the FUCK he from? Is he from 19th street, or is he from fuckin' 20th or is he from 21st street? Tell that nigga to make up his mind and stay wit one hood nigga, and keep it crippin! And this is Rich Rollin' 40's let that bitch ass nigga know, and let that nigga know I got a song comin' out bout his bitch ass too, and I'ma just give it away to the streets and let niggaz know you can never see me nigga!!! Period.


Nima : Is there anybody you would look forward to work with?

Man, right now I'm lookin' forward to fuckin' change the game and work with motherfuckers that niggas to even expect me to work with, you know? I'm just puttin' down my motherfuckin' chapter in the game and make it happen for me, and my gang, the Du Lo Gang and all that, and really make it happen for what I'm doin' man, and make these moves, you know what I mean?


Nima : How major do you see yourself on tha west coast scene?

Nigga I AM the WestCoast, you know what I mean? And motherfuckers know that, from the top rapper, or the so-called top, rappers in the game, to the motherfuckin' funny ass corporate America, to everybody, ain't nobody fuckin' wit me, so now I'm finally gettin' with a company thats gone have my back and thats gone let me put out records like the other motherfuckers puttin out, not threw together ass projects and half ass bullshit just throwin' it out there cause they got the machine behind them. Now I'm finna have the machine and the money behind me, and lets see who fuckin' ends up on top!! Period! You can't fuck wit me out here, know what I'm sayin?


Nima : How do you see West Coast Rap in general at the moment?

Right now I just feel like motherfuckers is tryna block us out the game and keep sayin' West Coast, West Coast but we gone switch it up on 'em, and a nigga like me is gone just put my chapter in the game of HipHop you know what I mean? And contribute to the game of HipHop and let motherfuckers know what time it is. Niggas from the West Coast need to get off West Coast West Coastin' and just get back to makin' music and these motherfuckers ain't gone do nuttin but follow the trend or follow what we do anyway cause we trendsetters! All we gotta start doin' is connectin with each other as artists out here on the WestCoast and makin' good music man and all that other bullshit, we just gotta put it in the past man, and move forward. We gone never get off of the, fuckin' thought pattern "West Coast, we fell off" and all this bullshit! We once got these motherfuckers sellin' records, the way these niggas is livin' right now is all our lifestyle, but the thang is, it's not a fuckin' fad, its a way of life and that's the difference, so we always gone come wit something new and always be in the game because we started this gangsta shit and we gone end it off, you know what I mean, so it's just about makin' our contributions to the hiphop game, and we just gone do that homie, and my click, we just gone do our thing! And I'm not disrespecting' nobody, but without a Dre, or Eminem or whatever, there just need to be more people out here on the WestCoast makin' contributions to the game of HipHop, that it ain't just Dre & Snoop doin' it, there's other motherfuckers out here too! That's where I come in, so I just finna keep it up man and show niggaz what I'm made of and its on you to keep up or be left in the dust.


Nima : What if tomorrow, Aftermath or Shady Records offered you a contract.. Would you sign?

God damn right I'll sign! For the simple fact that they the hottest mothefuckers out here, know what I'm sayin? Hell yeah I'd sign, cause I know I'd fit in over there, and I know I could go over there and say what the fuck I wanna say, and havin' them behind a motherfucker it would be a artists dream! So I'm not gone sit up here and say I wouldn't sign, god damn right I'll sign with the motherfuckers RIGHT NOW, but until the opportunity permits, I gotta do Jayo Felony, you know what I mean? So I'll get out here and make my records and show niggaz how dope I am, for the niggaz who don't know how dope I am, and if the opportunity comes to the table, we gone make it happen, whatever, but right now I'm doin' my thang with Loco Entertainment, and do what I gotta do for me as a artist. And hopefully something like that does come into play, when niggaz is gone see how dope I am on my own, you know what I mean?


Nima : I heard you were going to start your own film-company and make a movie about Crip Hop...whatever happened to that?

Yeah it's still in effect! As soon as I get this situation closed, and get everything signed, which should be in the next couple weeks, then everything that I wanna do is gonna come into play, and Ima do everything that I do big, so its about to happen man, I'm just happy with my situation I'm just happy where I am, and I'm just ready to make the music and show everybody what's goin' on, know what I mean?


Nima : For what songs have you made videos?

Uhhh, I made a video to way back to fuckin' "Brothers & Sisters", to fuckin' "Whatcha Gonna Do", I had a video for the fuckin' beef record with me Snoop Dogg and them, fuckin' "Trued Up", "The Loc Is On His Own", "Sherm Stick", 4 Minutes Of Funk", "She Loves Me" video, I had a video of that shit..


Nima : In the video to "She Loves Me.." who is that kid?

Oh that's my artist Young Nube! That's Young Nube...


Nima : Do you remember the first song you wrote?

Uhh, nah not the first one, I remember when I was writin' the gangsta shit when I was young, know what I mean? Eight or nine years old.. But I don't remember the first one.


Nima : What was the first Rap Album you bought?

Uhm, man, probalby Run DMC.


Nima : If you wouldn't be rapping, what do you think you'd be doing now?

Shit I don't know man, probably tryin' to be a fuckin' scientist or somethin'..

Nima : In Jail?

Hell nah I wouldn't be in jail!! I be dead before I fuckin' get my life in jail, I be dead man.. I'm not tryna be in nobodies fuckin' jail.. I be a scientist or a fuckin' doctor or somethin', you know what I mean?

Nima : Wouldn't you prefer bein' a doctor, rather than bein' a rapper?

Uhh, I don't know, I prefer bein' all that shit, know what I'm sayin.. Rapper, scientist, doctor, whatever the fuck I would be.. I feel a nigga can do everything he put his mind to, you know? I love rappin' though, I can't say I'd rather be nuttin' else than this.. That's what I love to do.


Nima : Have you ever been to Jail?

Yeah, I been to jail, when I was younger, know what I mean..

Nima : And did you learn anything from your experiences there?

Yup, I learned I don't like motherfuckers tellin' me what to do, so I ain't tryina fuck wit them.. Rather be dead than bein' in handcuffs and stripped naked and all that gay shit, I'd rather be dead homie, on the real.. So I ain't fuckin' around.. I just feel a motherfucker dyin' slow in jail..


Nima : Are you cool with Suge Knight and them?

Yeah I'm cool with everybody man, it's just when somebody say some bullshit about me, I'm fuckin' gone respond! But as far as me bein' cool, I'm cool with everybody, you know? And I've always been cool with everybody!! So that's just how I carry myself, but I'm me man, I'm just doin' my thang.. I'm not on nobodys fuckin' side, but my own side!


Nima : Is it true you were offered a contract from Death Row Records?

Yeah yeah yeah, I was offered a contract from everybody.. And Death Row Records was happenin' to be one of the people that was interested. But that wasn't the only company that was interested in me, and that wasn't the only company that put a deal on the table, you know what I mean? And me, bein' a business man, all these other weenie ass niggas scared to go ol' boy or whatever, I'ma go see what the nigga put on the table for me!! And if it ain't right it just ain't right, but that don't mean I'm not finna go sit down and sit at the table wit a motherfucker and see what they got to offer, you know what I mean? Death Row is a company and a business just like Jive or fuckin' Columbia or any other label! So if a motherfucker put a deal on the table or a situation for a nigga to look at, and I don't have a situation, then I'm gone see what the fuck they talkin' about!


Nima : Who is the best lyricist in the game?

Who is the best lyricist? I feel like man, right now I like alotta motherfuckers, and to me it ain't no best, cause everybody got something special about them, motherfuckers that got skills, you know what I mean? So it ain't no fuckin' best man, motherfuckers can rap different ways! It's just man, I like alotta different motherfuckers, I like MC's that got flows and can spit know what I am?

Nima : What you think of Ras Kass?

Ras Kass is dope, know what I'm sayin'? That nigga is off the hook, he be sayin' some off the wall shit!

Nima : Did you hear about his situation with Priority Records?

Uhh, as far as what?

Nima : They fucked him over, and he's on the run right now because they never released his record and now he wanna get out of Priority Records and he just did a song called "Fuck Priority" dissing them and all that..

I'm just tryna find a situation for my solo shit but the album is already completed, so you know its just us, whether we gone put it out.. But right now, I got a new album comin' out with me, C-Bo, WC and CJ Mack.

Yeah, we bout to make a album together. So right now, like I told you before, I'm tryna do bigger and better things, so I'ma do some groups that's gotta be big, so I feel like thats a big thing right there, me, C-Bo, Dub and uh CJ Mack. So that's what we tryna do right now, and then my solo projects and me with the Du Lo Gang, know what I'm sayin'..
