..........................................................................................
Dubcnn: Did Prodeje of South Central Cartel produce any tracks on the new
album?
yea he produced one
Dubcnn: Which track was that?
The Second track on the album [“Which Way Is Up”]
Dubcnn: Will you do any future work with Prodeje?
Oh you know, Prodeje, I been f-cking with Prodeje for a long time, so you know
whenever he toss something my way its cool I fuck with n-ggas on the westcoast
who aint getting they’re recognition and they shine, he been putting it down
for a while, definitely I talk to Prodeje about trying to do some work
together, more collaboration stuff so its in the works I'm trying to extend my
hand to n-ggas right now
Dubcnn: Are you ever going to do another Death Wish track?
I was working on something, I got into a little beef, I aint gonna name with
who but shit, I was finna drop a Death Wish song then it seemed like the beef
just…it wasn’t really no beef to begin with, so I have a song in the can
ready, I have a Death Wish ready, so if anyone wanna go for it, its coming
then!
Dubcnn: Will there be any new Compton’s Most Wanted projects?
Yea we working on one, I am finishing mixing the new CMW record right now, its
called “Gangsta Business” so that will be out later this summer, definitely
bringing back the CM Dub!
Dubcnn: Will there be a Pioneers Part 2 project?
Me and Spice did another project also its called “Keep It Gangsta” that should
be on shelves right now so like I said my thing is hooking up with any and
everybody and trying to do collaborations, that’s the best work.
Dubcnn: Do you ever intend to record another “Straight Up Menace” type
track with the smooth piano sound to it?
Oh definitely, that’s my thing right there and everybody knows MC Eiht is
original for that slow flow and them smooth grooves that hit home, I base my
music around stuff like that, the Prodeje cut on the new album is sorta like
that path, description of the streets – brotha coming up in the struggle
whatever so yea the Prodeje track isn’t “Straight Up Menace” but its sorta
along the same line, its called “Which Way Is Up” and its real cool
Dubcnn: Yea, people love that flow from you
Oh yea definitely, that’s my trademark, The “G’Yeah” and the slow flow that’s
my trademark, cant change it up for nothing
Dubcnn: Is DJ Slip going to produce any more MC Eiht material?
Yea Slip helped produce and collaborated with Chill on this new album, the
first track, and then he contributed to some songs on the new Compton’s Most
Wanted record also, and then we got Mike T doing some cutting, so everybody
original we got them hands on on the project
Dubcnn: Have you got a favourite track on “Affiliated?”
My favourite track is “Say Nuthin’”
Dubcnn: Are you cool with Mack 10 at the moment?
Mack 10? I haven’t talked to Mack 10 in a few years, I aint got no beef with
Mack 10, I aint never had no beef with Mack 10, the situation at Hoo Bangin it
was a business situation that didn’t work out, but personally, I have no
personal beef with Mack 10.
Dubcnn: Whats your Current opinion on westcoast music right now?
Right now we are trying to get back to what brothas is familiar with from
westcoast music, E-40 coming back out strong, then Ice Cube coming out strong,
The Dogg Pound coming strong, and so its just a time for westcoast music to
stand up and claim back the flag cause there’s a lot of cats out here with the
simple music, repping like they hard from the streets but they music is so off
from what they trying to represent, it was just the right time for brothas to
stand up and claim that throne with real ghetto music.
Dubcnn: Where do you get the inspiration from to keep making new music?
I just get my inspiration from rapping and just hip-hop all in the sense and
being in the streets and seeing how the state of the rap world and the rap
game is right now and how everything is just so bullshit, that’s what gives me
the inspiration to keep doing what I do cause I know my class of music is way
different to what is pumping right now so that gives me the inspiration to
pump my shit harder because n-ggas wanna hear the real and when I spit it and
bring it to them its nothing to what's going on these days, so its fresh to
your ears what people want to hear, the fans and being in the streets and
knowing what’s real and what people wanna hear so that gives me the
inspiration to just keep dishing out records
Dubcnn: Did you meet Tupac on the set of Menace II Society as he was due to
star in it?
Yea I met Tupac, we did concerts, we chilled and hung out, I knew Pac and he
was a fan of my music as I was a fan of his music, yea we chilled on set and
at a few rehearsals, a few concerts and on the road, yea I knew Tupac real
good.
Dubcnn: Do you have any crazy stories from the set of Menace II Society?
Ahh, crazy stories…well it was just a crazy experience, it was just doing a
movie but like doing a video but on a bigger scale just me being able to act
and see myself in the dailies and watch my performance man that was crazy to
me cause I was used to doing videos but never on a big scale like that – it
was impressive to me.
Dubcnn: How was it working with Infinite Mass from Sweden?
That was tight, real tight, being able to go over to Sweden and go to the
World Music Awards and produce a song with Infinite Mass and watch them win
awards it was real tight, especially seeing that brothas in the UK and Sweden
were appreciating CMW and MC Eiht, it was an experience to go overseas and do
some shows and hook up with Infinite Mass, they were real strong with they
raps they sorta followed the pattern of Eiht coming from the Ghettos and
speaking on the streets and trying to keep it real, it was respect from that
Dubcnn: They working with rock music right now..
You gotta do what you do, I support whatever, whatever way you feel that the
music is taking you you gotta follow that path cause it will be a different
outcome for you, its just all my life its been for me to go through that
Gangsta role and spit the real on the streets about Compton and what we go
through on the westcoast, but to each his own.
Dubcnn: How did you hook up with Spice 1 to do all the albums?
I hooked dup with Spice from doing the Menace II Society soundtrack with me
doing the soundtrack and being in the movie and with Jive putting out the
soundtrack and dealing with me on the production and dealing with me and Slip
and me acting they wanted us to hook up with Spice and knew Spice was on the
same level as I was and wanted to get some of that from the move and me and
Slip hooked up with Spice and produced the Murda Show and it just was a long
relationship and got down on the Gangsta Team and on the 1996 on his record
and from there it was always like if you ever wanna get down, it was mandatory
Dubcnn: You have done a lot of albums and do you ever find it hard to get
topics to write about?
Well with me its simple, from being in the streets and watching the news and
seeing what goes on everyday on this part of town I can talk about anything
and everything and never have to talk about the same things twice its
different shit, Run DMC said it best there are 8 million stories in the naked
city so a n-gga a lot to talk about if he got his eyes and ears open and his
nose to the ground.
Dubcnn: Do you like any European music right now?
I been checking and a lot of people been hitting me on
MySpace from Europe, I just did
something with this cat from over there I cant think of his name right now,
real heavy cat over there whose on the radio over there in London he came over
and got with my Drum-N-Bass producer DJ Sub Flow and they hooked up and did a
track and I got on it but yea real tight, something different than I would
usually do but it still came out hard.
Dubcnn: From London?
Yea
Dubcnn: How did they link with you through your MySpace?
Well basically my DJ Sub Flow, he's a Drum-N-Bass producer so he deals in that
realm and type of music so with him connected and doing shows in London and
people knowing him me and him hooked up on this project we been working
together so people know he fucks with me so they go through him on that level
and he tells me that some boys coming from London to do some shit so he hooks
it up and I go to the studio and its a done deal
Dubcnn: Is that the best way for a producer to get at you?
Yea my MySpace or
www.mc-eiht.com or pick
up the album and the email address are all in the album they can get at me
like that.
Dubcnn: Any upcoming tours planned?
Yea we are trying to, my man Sub is putting together a European tour they want
us over there for two weeks for a couple of concerts so we gonna hit Europe in
a minute, probably in the next month and a half then come back to the States
and crack it off from there.
Dubcnn: Final words for the fans?
Well basically, “Affiliated” is in stores now the new Compton’s Most Wanted
record Gangsta Business is out this summer and just stay true if you are a
true fan of hip-hop or rap music true music or whatever you want to call it
and don’t let anyone deter you away from what’s going on and stay true to
what's in your heart or what you believe is true music to you and support that
to the fullest.
