The Ms Williams Interview
A Woman’s Touch
(The Special Dubcnn Series)
By: Chad Kiser, Jonathan Hay and Sabrina
..........................................................................................

Dubcnn: Being from the west coast I would assume that you had a lot of
influences from around there. Who is some of your main influences from around
there that made you want to get into the rap game?
Oh man first and foremost I would have to say Too Short, Dre, Pac, and my
brothers.
Dubcnn: What about Too Short sticks out to you?
I guess his swagger and his confidence; I grew up on Too Short being from
the Bay area, so you
know it was always on the radio.
Dubcnn: Speaking from a west coast perspective, any artist dead or alive
who would you have wanted to collaborate with?
I would have to say Pac; I mean who wouldn’t want to do that? He defines
the West Coast, with Dr.
Dre and Uncle Snoop also. The unity is messed up, but people know if it is
really a West Coast thing or not.
Dubcnn: I have talked to a couple of artists out in the West Coast about
the unity and why is it so hard, why would you say it is so hard more so than
some of the other areas.
You know, I have wondered that. Being from the Bay area its not really out
there international wise.
In the Bay you can be a local artist and you will get play on the radio all
day. In L.A. it is different because you are into Hollywood now. Everybody is
looking out for themselves and not each other. I don’t understand to this day
why it isn’t more unity out here.
Dubcnn: Who would you say are some of your female emcee influences?
Queen B, Kim she just did the damn thing, and Foxy too.
Dubcnn: What is different about you from the other female artists in the
game?
I don’t know I am different because when people look at me that don’t
expect me to sound the way I do. They always ask me if I am a singer. You
really can’t name a female rapper that has come from the Bay ever that has hit
real heavy. The simple fact that I am from a different area that people isn’t
used to and my look don’t match my sound.
Dubcnn: You definitely have an East Coast vibe too, as far as lyrically
speaking…
I think that that is hot! A lot of people say that I have that east coast
sound and I am not trying to it just comes out that way.
Dubcnn: A lot of people said the same thing about The Game when he first
came out and we wouldn’t know where he was from unless he didn’t tell us all
the time…
Yep
Dubcnn: You could have chosen to have gone into the modeling industry, but
you chose to go into the rap game. Why did you choose music?
Because of my parents and my brothers. When I was growing up my parents
were in a rock band and always playing and singing around us so we always had
instruments; it was always around us. My brothers were always like spit
something spit something because they rapped all the time so I had to keep up
with them. To me it is in our blood.
Dubcnn: You lost a brother in a car accident, how did that affect your
life? What kind of impact did that have on you?
Man it is kind of indescribable, I was 17 at the time and he was 19 had a
full football scholarship. It was more like a nightmare. I would say it
impacted me to want to take care of my mom. I still have nightmares to this
day of seeing my brother in a body bag so imagine how that feels it is still
kind of tough to talk to about.
Dubcnn: Looking at your pictures on
MySpace, I just got to ask, how do you
stay in such good shape?
I never used to look at eating healthy but the older that I get I just
started to realize how important it is. I mean I have family members that had
to have parts amputated so that keeps me motivated to stay healthy. Life is
already short enough.
Dubcnn: Now, do you have a workout schedule or a certain plan that you
stick to food wise?
French Fries are my workout plan. I don’t exercise I am quite lazy
actually. I guess it is hereditary, my mom always says it is going to catch up
to me, but I am not at the point where I am going to change my eating habits
yet maybe later on; as long as you feel comfortable in your own skin.
Dubcnn: Tell us how you hooked up with Drift City Records?
Well, I hooked up with them through MySpace actually and had the
opportunity to work with Drift City so I was lucky enough to have them roll
across my page so I got to fly out and meet with them. A lot of stuff goes on
MySpace, the internet is amazing.
Dubcnn: Is your MySpace blowing up like all day, everyday?
It is a job with-in itself between the messages and the friend requests.
If I am not in the studio, I am on there handling business and I do personally
do that myself. I have friends who get mad when I take them off my top 5 on
there and everything.
Dubcnn: How do you juggle your personal life and your business?
It is a mental thing you have to know how to separate everything. I am
going to take time out to do the family thing.
Dubcnn: You have music and modeling, but that isn’t the only thing you are
doing right.
No, I act too. I went on set to meet Cedric the Entertainer, and it was
just a meet and greet. The next day I got a call from them and they wanted to
play a role. So that was a real good situation to get to go up there and meet
him cause he is so down to earth. Drift City wants to take it to the movies
too. I was excited and nervous at the same time.
Dubcnn: So really is there anything you can’t do?
I play guitar and piano, too. I am going to bring them out when necessary.
Dubcnn: Have you produced anything before?
I have done one that got a good response on my MySpace. I have a home
studio where I have been learning how to mix and engineer songs cause I will
be able to utilize it in the future.
Dubcnn: What are some things that you are working on that we can look
forward to in the future?
I just went to Atlanta last week and worked on this remix called “Swag
Check”. I did the remix with Diamond from Crime Mob and I am also staring to
work on my first mix tape album. Expect a whole lot of magic on that. With
Drift City nothing is small.
Dubcnn: What is the whole Interscope Records situation like?
About a year ago MySpace music came to me and said that they were amazed
by my numbers and how well I have been doing and they wanted to take it to
Interscope which I guess is their big brother. If they believe in their artist
they take you straight to Interscope to start your project.
Dubcnn: Have you ever actually met Tom from MySpace?
No, I keep missing him when I am up there so I am sure the next time I am
up there they will have me take one and put it on my myspace. Its headquarters
is in Fox's building. It is a big operation that goes on in there. She wasn't
allowed to tell us that she worked there and we didn’t know until she quit but
then I found out all the kinds of stuff that goes on behind closed doors
*laughs*.
Dubcnn: When did your myspace page really take off?
It was weird because at the time I was dating a football player and guys
would come up and say have you seen blah blahs myspace and I was like what is
a myspace. So I am reading the comments and it is chicks leaving messages
saying hey baby sorry I didn’t call you back last night, and good seeing you
the other night. So I was like this is myspace huh? So, I go home that night
and took a bunch of sexy pictures and put all the football guys in them, so we
broke up because of that, but after that I was addicted. Everybody has been
addicted to myspace at one time.
Dubcnn: I read an interview that you did with another publication and some
of your comments were misconstrued about Jay-Z, Would you like a chance to
clear that?
Nothing about Jay-Z was ever said. I was under bad management at the time
and I never did really talk to those people. So there really isn’t anything to
clean up because I didn’t say anything that needed to be cleaned up. I was
scared because that was my first time that something has happened like that
but it wont be the last. I think that Jay is one of the greatest.
Dubcnn: Who would be your top 5 emcees of all time?
Oh, this is going to be hard and I might forget somebody but Biggie, Pac,
Hova, Kim, and Left Eye. It is kind of random, but that is who I would say.
Dubcnn: Final Thoughts?
Shout out to Jonathan [Hay], Chad [Kiser] and the whole Dubcnn staff!!!
Big shout out to Drift City Records!!!
