OG CUICIDE (January 2011) | Interview By:
Chad Kiser
Though struggling to survive and overcoming violence and poverty is a
common image depicted of those who live in Compton, CA, for West Coast
rapper OG Cuicide it’s all just a part of his life. From having been
abandoned by his parents at only eighteen months old, to having to make it
through foster homes and more upheavals, Cuicide has dealt with hardships
from the moment he was born.
With no place to truly call home, he took to the streets and their offerings
of gang activity and hustling, but even that failed to calm him and
eventually lead to an attempt at taking his own life at the young age of 22
years old.
Having survived his brush with death, Cuicide awoke from the trauma-induced
coma with a renewed sense of determination for his life. Just two years
after the life-changing experience that inevitably spawned his rap alias, he
signed his first record deal and recorded his debut album aptly titled
“Final Exit.”
The album reflected his life during the hard times he endured before the
suicidal attempt , including his constant living on the edge, and that
opened the door for his future in music. Since then he’s released a second
album, toured across Japan, France, and Germany and taken up acting.
The struggles haven’t stopped, as he’s been shot twice in the last four
years, including in the stomach by an AK-47, but through it all he’s
developed a desire to never quit. His new C&G Records album, “Never Give
Up”, will carry that theme and is sure to give his listeners a true glimpse
at overcoming the odds.
Dubcnn catches up with the Compton OG to talk about his new project, the
meaning behind “Never Give Up”, what to expect from his record label C&G
Records, and more! Peep the interview below, and be sure to support the west
coast artist OG Cuicide!

OG Cuicide Interview
By: Chad Kiser
.............................................................................................
Dubcnn: Dubcnn is here with the Compton O.G. Cuicide! Let's start this off
talking about the new Never Give Up album you got coming out. What can we
expect with this one, and when will it drop?
You can expect music more likely to make you listen than dance; I’m
going to let the world decide. The album will drop October 2011
Dubcnn: What are some of the highlights on this project?
The album itself is the highlight!
Dubcnn: From start to finish, how long did this album take to complete?
On the real, it took me three months to complete the album.
Dubcnn: What’s the first single coming out from Never Give Up, and what's
the concept behind it?
The first single is called “Never Give Up”, as well as the name of the
album. The concept is based on my life, I’ve been through more than most,
but I’ve never given up.
Dubcnn: What does the title Never Give Up mean to you?
It speaks for itself! Never giving up means whatever dream you have in life,
goals you work everyday for, just never give up on them.
Dubcnn: For those of us who may not know, give us a little history about
how you got started?
I’m OG Cuicide from Compton! During the time I should have been playing
sports, I was gangbanging and hustling. When we would hang out on the block
doing what we do, a few of the big homies would be freestyling, so I tried
it and used to come with some hard-ass shit. The homies used to be like,
‘man you need to start writing shit down.’ So, I start bringing a note pad,
my dope sack, and a strap to the block, and I would write about real shit
that was going on in my life.
Dubcnn: Being from Compton, who or what were some of your early
influences?
My OG’s in my hood was my influence.
Dubcnn: How would you describe your style?
Iniquitously
Dubcnn: Who handled the production for the album and what kind of
features do you have on the project?
Wow! For production I got Dae One, Miklo Sanchez, Epademik, Bigg Rocc, Stone
Beats, Dolla D and Young Jaboe. With the features, I got Lil Flip, Young
Hustle, Dipset West, J Minixx, Att Will, Big2da Boy, Snoopyblue, Eastwood,
Live Wire, Mac Lucci, Young Roccett, Tracy Lane and my artist Vince Sterling
Dubcnn: Tell me about C&G Records, the label this project is coming
through?
C&G Records is a indie label formed by me and my business partner J Moore to
give artists opportunities to get their music out there.
Dubcnn: With this particular project, what are you hoping to accomplish?
With this project I’m looking forward to getting the OG’s back in the
studios making music. Alot of cats think the OG’s don’t got it no more, why
they feel this way I can’t answer that, but I’m going to show’em.
Dubcnn: What are some of the other topics and concepts you're talking
about the album?
My record “Never Give Up” is self-explanatory, “Tragedy” speaks about
everyday life and the “3rd Verse” expresses how I got my name and tried to
keep it hidden from my kids; “Bare With Me” is a record I did for my wife,
everything I do I do for my family. I’m always in the studio, out grinding
late night, and not at home as much as I should be, so anybody that’s in a
relationship or married should play “Bare With Me”. Tune in for the rest!
Dubcnn: With all the competition for the consumer's dollar right now,
what's going to make someone want to pick up an OG Cuicide record? What
separates you from every other emcee?
My message, I give to the world, speaking from the heart. I got a story to
tell, but it’s based on true life; not like most rappers that tell stories
about another person’s life and wished they walked in them shoes.
Dubcnn: Any closing remarks for the readers out there?
