Dubcnn's Best Of 2007 - December 31, 2007 By : Eddie Gurrola

2007 has been quite a year for hip-hop, and we've seen many quality releases from artists and producers across the nation. Because of this, we've compiled "Dubcnn's Best Of 2007" - a look back at the Dubcnn staff's favorite artists, albums, mixtapes, and singles of the year.
It was very hard to pick a single winner in each category, so we've chosen five picks under each topic. These winners were chosen from a majority vote system, and it was no easy task to pull off! Please be aware that the views and selections expressed in this "Best Of" feature are the opinions of the Dubcnn team as a whole.
Some of our staff have expressed their reasons and feelings in regards to who and what deserved to be recognized in selected categories. Also please note that images shown do not represent a 'favorite' or 'winner'. Check out what we've come up with by following the link below.

Shade Sheist & PYO - The End Of Year Update & Audio - December 30, 2007 By : Rud

Few independent labels have acheived what PutYourselfOut have managed to do over the past few years. From countless projects, to touring and more the organisation has built a reputation for quality across the board. With 2007 now at an end Shade Sheist and PutYourselfOut wanted to give our readers a headsup on what is to come in 2008 and rest assured their reputation is only set to increase with what is to come!
First up for 2008 sees Shade Sheist and his Partner In Rhyme N.U.N.E. head to Canada for a Tour being put on by Dubcnn Featured Haze Entertainment.
The rest of the first quarter will see the duo also hit Taiwan and the UK as part of their heavy touring plans for 2008. In terms of recording Shade Sheist and N.U.N.E. have been in the studio recording with Glasses Malone, Bishop Lamont, Stat Quo and Y.A. (Tri-Star, Roscoe, Slo Stallone) for their long awaited "Movin Units" project that is now set to drop in 2008, the lead single will be premiered soon as entitled "Movin Like A Boss" produced by James Brown. As if that wasn't enough the two have already signed to J-Steez to release a sophomore project soon after that will see J-Steez producing the entire album. The first single from that release has just been completed and is called "Table Dance" featuring Eddie Kane Jr as well as a remix with XL Middleton. In terms of solo projects, Shade Sheist has just started his third album while both Eddie Kane Jr and N.U.N.E. are finishing up their respective albums.
Regular Dubcnn visitors will be familiar with the PYO From Yo Hood video series that has been appearing on YouTube. PYO are now in talks with both VH1 and The E! Channel to take the project further under the title "Making The Comeback."
To wrap up - and this may be last but is by no means least - Shade Sheist and the PutYourselfOut family are proud to announce that they are taking over the world next year - literally - PYO will be releasing the world's first "WorldTape" in 2008 - what is a "WorldTape" you ask?
Well in an era when most artists are releasing mixtapes and Street Albums, Shade Sheist is compiling his greatest features, productions and exclusive never before heard music and droppin it for free in the United States. What's so original about that you may ask? Well under the title "WorldTape" Shade Sheist is going global by creating an editon for every major country in the world?
His recent silence from releasing new material has been the result of working with major artists and producers around the world in various countries to release the first "WorldTape" entitled "Out of Sight Out of Mind" - the cover to which can be seen in full by clicking the new image above. "Out of Sight Out of Mind," which is due for release in January 2008, will be the first in the "WorldTape" series that will eventually see versions appear for Japan, Canada, Italy, South America, UK, Germany and countless more. This is a completely new vision and Dubcnn and its readers are involved from the start.
We are calling out to any artists or producers from any country that want to be involved to come forward and get involved in this game-changing, world-impacting, promotion-heavy project. Get involved today by contacting theworldtape@aol.com.
It wouldn't be right if we dropped all this information without some fresh new audio and in true Dubcnn style we have a single from next months first "WorldTape" - "Out of Sight Out of Mind." The track sees Shade Sheist linked back up with Damizza (on production) and features previously Dubcnn Featured LeMarvin.
Shade Sheist - Glam Lyfe (Feat. LeMarvin) (Produced by Damizza)
Enjoy the new music and take some time to soak in all the information in this update. Don't forget to pay a visit to PutYourselfOut as well as SwurvRadio, the home of the "PYO Radio Show." Discuss This Topic

R&B Is Bringing You That "I-Ebonics" - December 24, 2007 By : Lil Jay

He goes by the name of R&B, but don't get him confused with the music! R&B hails from the Inland Empire and recently released his project "I-Ebonics". The album is said to be his best work to date, as it's a combination of all his experience in his career. While his name might be new to some, R&B has been in the game for over 15 years.
He started his career with International Records back in 1995 with the group Me and My Cousin, and signed his first recording contract with Priority Records that same year. Their first album titled "International" was produced by platinum producer Rhythm D and featured the track "Red Carpet".
A few years later, R&B clicked up with Sly Boogy and began touring with him. This led to them forming the group called The P.B.G. (Pit Bull Gorillas), adding Dirty Birdy as the third member. The name has been existing for a few years, but the first real project is scheduled to come out in 2008. One of the many collaborations the trio made was "Country Bumpkinz" from Sly Boogy's "The Fifth Letter" Mixtape released in 2005.
But back to his current project "I-Ebonics": The album is now available on cdbaby.com/cd/iebonics and brings you nothing but some fresh I.E. slash West Coast Hip Hop. R&B was involved in every step of the creation process, from the concept, to the music, the artwork, or the marketing.
We've got two songs for you to check out. These are "P.B.G. (Whaaaat!!!)" which is his underground single, and "Silly" which is his radio single. "P.B.G. (Whaaaat!!!)" features the aforementioned Sly Boogy and Dirty Birdy, and "Silly" features Bay Area singer Vonetra on the hook/verse.

Dubcnn & Meech Wells 8 Days Of X-Mas Contest - December 20, 2007 By : Eddie Gurrola

Although “The New West World Order Volume 1” is still buzzing like crazy, Meech Wells [visit his Myspace page here] is almost done with the second installment of his street album series. The new project will feature guest appearances from Eastwood, Young Mack Life, Young Joker, and the rest of the usual suspects – but you can look out for some big name surprise guests to pop up as well!
While Meech is putting the finishing touches on the album right now, he’s looking for a special new talent to fill one guest spot. Being that this is the holiday season, Meech wants to extend his hand to the right MC that deserves some big time shine. Knowing that Dubcnn is a breeding ground for all kinds of up-and-coming talent on the West, he came to us, and after some joint brainstorming we’re pleased to announce one of our most exciting contests to date. We’re bringing “8 Days Of Christmas” to the West Coast underground this holiday season. Together, we’re gonna hook you up with what could be your big break into the West Coast rap game!
Below is the instrumental to “Nite L.O.C.S.,” a Meech Wells production that originally featured Snoop Dogg, Kokane, and Goldie Loc. Meech wants to see what you can do with this track. To enter the contest, all you have to do is record a new version of this song. Drop your own original concept, lyrics, and delivery on the cut, and be sure to give it your all!
Keep in mind that Meech is looking for an MC with a fresh style. He’s also not looking for typical gangsta rap on this track. In fact, that’s the point of this contest. Think of it this way: Meech is asking you, “How would you update this track to make it appeal to the average hip-hop fan in 2007?” It’s a tough task, but if you can pull it off you’ll get hooked up in a major way! Download the instrumental below and get started.
Meech Wells – Nite L.O.C.S. [Instrumental] [DO NOT Base Your Song Around This Title/Concept]
When you’re done recording your song, send it in to eddie@dubcnn.com with the subject line as “Dubcnn & Meech Wells: ‘8 Days Of Christmas’ Contest.” Only MP3 and WMA formats will be accepted. Also be sure to include your MC name, phone number, and a Myspace page if you’ve got one. We strongly encourage that you join our forum community if you haven't already as well, because Meech will be in there frequently to chat with you directly.
After the contest is closed, we’ll drop all of your songs off with Meech as a late Christmas present, and he’ll personally listen to every single one of them. After careful review, he’ll pick the winner himself!
The lucky MC who wins the contest will get the amazing opportunity to come out to Meech Wells’ studio and work on a song with him! The track that the two of you record will be featured on “The New West World Order Volume 2,” which is dropping for free download in January, only on Dubcnn. There are a lot of major moves in the works right now over at Meech's In A Zone Productions, so while we can’t say anything right now, aligning yourself with this camp is definitely a position that you want to be in.
If you’re serious about getting into the game, this is an opportunity that you can’t pass up! In keeping with the “8 Days Of Christmas” theme, the contest will end on December 28th, 2007 at 12:00 AM PST – 8 days from now. You’re gonna have to get it in gear to get this track done, but we have faith in you! The winner will be announced right here on Dubcnn on December 30th. Good luck!
From everyone at Dubcnn and Meech Wells: Happy Holidays!Discuss This Topic

Shawty Redd Is A "Drifter" On His First Single [Audio] - December 20, 2007 By : Nima

Shawty Redd, the Atlanta based producer behind Snoop Dogg's current single "Sensual Seduction" is jumping on the buzz of his collaboration with Tha Doggfather and recently dropped his own single "Drifter", off his upcoming solo album "Jekyll & Hyde".
The self proclaimed "Dope Boy beat man" who was the man behind a lot of the beats on Young Jeezy's "Thug Motivation" albums as well as a lot of recent Southern albums, is clearly not scared of experimenting, and he shows that again on "Drifer".
The up-beat club track finds Redd singing about a stripper that has him in a trance, and he reached out to veteran Big Gipp to come join him on the track with a verse. Incase the song reminds of you of Snoop's "Sensual Seduction", that probably is because Snoop reached out to Shawty Redd after hearing "Drifter" wanting to hook up with him, which led to Redd cooking up "Sensual Seduction" for Dogg.
Enough talk, go ahead and check out "Drifter" below:

Snoop Dogg held his Smokin Xmas Party this past Saturday at the House of Blues on Sunset. The event was held as a charity function with all proceeds benefiting the Snoop Youth Football League. The west coast was out in full force that evening, being that it was Snoop's first headline at the House of Blues in a long time.
Fresh off the release of "Guilty by Affiliation", WC opened the night, along with his brother DJ Crazy Toones and Young Maylay as support. They performed a selection of songs which included "Gangsta Nation", "Bow Down", "West Coast Voodoo", "The Streets", and others.
Headline for the evening, Snoop Dogg brought a plethora of guests to stage with him: Daz, Kurupt, Soopafly, Warren G, Xzibit, Battlecat, Terrace Martin, 1500, and Snoopadelics. They performed such classics as "Next Episode", "Aint No Fun", "Nothin but a G Thang", "Whats My Name" to newer hits like "Sensual Seduction" and "I Wanna Love You".
DJ Quik, the big surprise guest of the evening, came out for a short set and performed "Tonight", "Born and Raised in Compton" and "Sweet Black Pussy" as Snoop Dogg and DPG/Snoopadelic affiliates backed him up.
Snoop definitely showed out at the House of Blues this weekend, and provided an evening of amazing music for west coast fans. Make sure to get your tickets for next years party!
