G-Flow Presents: "The Prequal" (Audio) - September 30, 2005 By : Rud

As we reported earlier this month, G Flow is gearing up to release a compilation album in early 2006 called "Armageddon." The album is set to feature tracks by Crooked I featuring Truth Hurts, Sly Boogy, Lady of Rage, RBX, Bo Roc (of The Dove Shack), Eastwood and TriStar along with some up and coming west coast artists. G-Flow hit up dubcnn earlier this month to inform you all that as "Armageddon" won't be out until early next year, he has decided to drop a precursor called, "Armageddon: The Prequal," to hype you for the complete release.
"The Prequal," as we reported, will feature some of the artists from the "Armageddon" album doing original tracks in mixtape fashion as a teaser for the album when it drops. We dropped G-Flow's remix of The Game's Dreams in the last update and G-Flow hit us up again; this time with tracks from "Armageddon: The Prequal." Below are those tracks and an image of G-Flow in the studio. Click the news image to see a full size cover of "The Prequal" cover.

The release will be coming out on Relic Entertainment which is based in Lakewood, California. The Replacementz - September 27, 2005 By : DJ Papa Smirf

Hip-Hop is in for a change of guard. Two young artists are currently cultivating their talents, while in the last leg of their college careers. They are Tec Beatz and Juice, collectively known as The Replacementz. The two, who are both lyricists and producers, have been a team since the respect of their peers brought them together during their sophomore year at Clark Atlanta University.
Each of them had transformed their dorm rooms into makeshift production studios; and though they did not know each other, Tec and Juice were making music in sync. "My friends came down and told me there was some dude down the hallway making beats too," recalls Tec. "I got down to his room, and he was doing the same stuff I was doing. Same type of music and all that." Since then, The Replacementz have fallen into the perfect dynamic with Tec as the producer and Juice as the lyricist of the group. What gives them an edge over many other young up-and-comers is that each artist understands the other's style and skill. "I can do things to his beats that other people probably would be scared to do," says Juice. Their unique sound, which Tec defines as "futuristic," combines the soulfulness of the Midwest with the crunk rhythms of the South and the lyricism of the East Coast; a versatility which comes from Tec and Juice's individual musical backgrounds.
Born and raised in Chicago, Juice's interests in the music business were sparked by his brother, who is ten years older than him. "He was one of my role models," he explains, "so everything he did, I wanted to mock." When Juice was in the 8th grade, his brother released a single, which inspired Juice to seriously consider a career as an MC. While Chicago artists like Twista, Do or Die, and Crucial Conflict were exposing the world to "fast rap," Juice felt at a young age that the game needed something new. Thanks to his older brother, he had been exposed to more than just the Chicago sound, listening to MC Eiht, Geto Boyz, Nas, Jay-Z, and Three 6 Mafia. In high school, Juice and his best friend formed a group and took the underground scene by storm. Once he relocated to Atlanta, though the distance put a strain on his group, Juice's personal career goals remained undeterred. Tec Beatz grew up in Gainesville, GA in a family of musicians. Fascinated by the sounds to which he was constantly exposed by his uncles, he knew at a young age that the music itself was what he was interested in making. After one of his uncles gave him a drum sequencer when he was in the 7th grade, Tec started making beats and never looked back. His natural talent was strengthened by a formal education acquired through years as a percussionist in both his high school band and the Clark Atlanta University marching band. When other lyricists were slow to catch Tec's vibe, he made himself into the MC needed to navigate his sound. "I'm looking ahead to the future. I might not live to see it, but that's how my mind set is," he states. "I try to make the most futuristic sounding music as possible." Less than two years since The Replacementz got together, they have attained an impressive level of success both in and outside of Atlanta. Supported by their management, Division 1 Entertainment, they have performed on stages ranging from college talent shows to the first annual Vibe Music Fest, and have collaborated with such mainstream artists as T.I. and Stat Quo. And so impressed was the latter, that he endorsed and hosted The Replacementz first mixtape, The Panic Room Mixtape, Vol. 1. In addition to their own mixtapes, The Replacementz have also been featured on mixtapes by some of the most respected DJs in the game, including DJ Drama, DJ Don Cannon, and DJ G-Spot. In March of 2005, the group released The Panic Room Mixtape Vol. 2, featuring their first single, "Worldwide." They are in the studio constantly, taking advantage of every opportunity to continue to hone their skills, while expanding their already impressive catalogue. The group has gotten the attention and support of several major players in the game. As Stat Quo said, "The Replacementz are the real deal! Check for anything these young cats are doing along with the Division 1 Entertainment staff."
"If you want something you've never had, you must do things you've never done"

Bishop Lamont - I'm A Soldier - September 26, 2005 By : Nima

Bishop Lamont has arrived! Aftermath's newest signee is currently in the studio with Dr. Dre, as the whole camp is working on Dre's highly anticipated album "Detox", which will probably see the light of day sometime in 2006.
Until Bishop gets to shine on the 'Math, he'll be staying on his street grind which got him where he is now, and keep dropping heat on mixtapes and soundtracks. You might have heard the song I got for ya'll right now, but if you haven't, this is a must check. It's from "E-A Sports Soundtrack Vol. 1" and was produced by Da Riffs, so you know it's gonna be dope. It sounds like Tony Yayo is doing ad-libs on the chorus, no confirmation on that though...
A hard ass track, check it out below:

Kardinal Offishall "Fire & Glory" - September 26, 2005 By : Adon

Kardinal has changed many preconceived notions of what a hip-hop artist is. He doesn't hail from New York, L.A. , or Atlanta; he embraces his Canadian Jamaican heritage. He is the unofficial ambassador of Toronto.
At least when it comes to hip-hop, Kardi's positive outlook was strained by label drama that saw his then-label, MCA, absorbed into Geffen in 2003 right before the release of the now-scrapped "F-Word Theory", the official follow-up to 2001's "Firestarter Vol. 1: Quest for Fire". While shopping around for a new deal, the patois-spitting, triple-threat rapper/producer/singer guested on a slew of remixes from Neptunes affiliates Clipse's "Grindin" to UK grime star Lethal Bizzle's "Pow!".
Now with a new home, Kardi is getting ready to relase his new LP "Fire & Glory". We have the tracklisting and a preview track for you to check out.
TRACK LISTING:
1. Last Standing Soldier 2. E.G.G. (Everybody Gone Gangsta) ft. Vybz Kartel 3. Heads Up 4. Everyday (Rudebwoy) ft. Ray Robinson 5. The Best Man 6. Freshie ft. Ro Dolla 7. Sunday 8. Kaysarasara ft. Estelle 9. Neva New (Till I Kissed You) 10. Mr. Officer ft. Rene Neufville (formerly of Zhané) 11. Whatchalike ft. Busta Rhymes 12. Fire and Glory 13. Feel Alright 14. All the Way

D.C.'s Head-Roc Album Download - September 23, 2005 By : SGV

Over the past ten years Head-Roc has been regarded as the best that D.C. Hip Hop has to offer. Dubbed "The Mayor" of the D.C. Hip Hop Community, Head-Roc has come to embody the talented and all too ofter over looked scene. He released his solo debut, The Return Of Black Broadway, in 2004 to critical acclaim and top spots on College radio stations. The buzz was enough for Heady to tour Europe and the West Coast. His movement translated into a Hip Hop Album of the Year Award from the Washington Area Music Association in 2005.
Now he's pushing his sophomore release, Negrophobia. Heady holla'd at DubCNN to put it for him for a few days. Here's what he had to say about the album:
"Expect a reminder of "great history" of our nation that we live in. A reminder of how supremacy treats those who are inferior. All that wrapped in some great fuckin music!"
When asked what his favorite song from album was and what we can expect in the future: "I like "Bernard Hopkins" the most, it's the most unique song on the album. [As for the future] I'm on the grind, looking to find funding to distribute this album. AND still trying to get around the world again!"
If you're in the D.C. area head out to the Washington Monument on September 24th. Heady and Bay Area group The Coup will be performing Operation Cease Fire along with a host of Punk, Country, Soul and Latin groups. The official site for the event stats: "this event will be a centerpiece of what is expected to be 4 days of enormous protests in nation's capital in support of a full withdrawal of U.S. forces from the quagmire in Iraq."
Back to the album! Below is the tracklisting with 2 songs for you to preview. They're Radio edits, get the explicit versions when you download the whole album.
Tracklist:
01. "Glory" Intro 02. Chris Columbus 03. Bob Marley 04. Bernard Hopkins 05. Free Palestine 06. Black Babies Cry 07. Middle Passage 08. Police Origins 09. Tarzan 10. Speak To Us Do 11. Lord God In Heaven (Revisited)

Daz Dillinger Flaunts His "Lifestyle" - September 22, 2005 By : Rud

As we have been reporting over recent months rap duo Lifestyle, comprising of Snoop Dogg’s younger brother, Bing and, DJ Quik’s cousin, H.I.T. are in the studio recording their debut album, "Lubrication." This is still ongoing however they have just announced that they have recently completed filming their first music video in support of their upcoming radio single, "All I Need," which was produced by the legendary rapper and producer, and Dogg Pound member, Daz Dillinger. Daz says he wants the fans to know,
"They’re my little cousins, so I grew up with them. I like helping them out because I know they’re going to help their cousin, and vice versa."
In addition to having produced the single, Daz also appears in the video which has been directed by Christian Strickland, who has created music videos for artists including Three 6 Mafia, Juvenile, Rosco and Webbie.
The former Death Row Records recording artist went on to say he is heavily involved with the Lifestyle single and its accompanying music video because he very much wants to support the group’s record label, the Houston and Los Angeles based Lethal Entertainment : "I like the way Lifestyle is doing it, they’re on Tommy Bruno and Greedy Greg’s label, Lethal Entertainment, plus they’re independent." Daz states that Lifestyle will make an important contribution to the ever growing 'roster' of West Coast rap artists, giving them an authentic Dillinger-style endorsement, he says, "They’ll add more flame, more weed to the game!"
"It’s a beautiful thing," says Bing. "To actually get to work together with Daz and do positive things." His opposite number, H.I.T. says, "It’s a privilege to work with Daz, a real honor. He adds his trademark sound to our album with the song he produced for us."
As ever dubcnn will be back with more news, audio and video from the project as we get it, until then check the picture of the group and Daz.Discuss This Topic

Having grown up in a dysfunctional family, the oldest of five, with no fatherly advice, Hectic was forced to grow up fast. Conditioned by the ghetto streets of the 818, Hectic tells it how it is composing that feel good West Coast Music, along with that war music of the battlefield. Statement From Wron G (Warren G Album) - September 22, 2005 By : Rud

As many of you will be aware Warren G's album was leaked to the internet yesterday, as the nature of the internet would dictate it has spread like wildfire. Now we are not here to say we can prevent piracy however as an organisation we are asking that any of you who have already downloaded the album support Warren G when the album drops on October 11th. I know many of you who will have the album are hardened fans who just want to hear the album as soon as possible and have every intention of buying it however this is just to try and elimiate the hardcore bootleggers who download with no intention of buying and spread the release to make money themselves.
Warren G's Uncle and management, Wron G, dropped a statement to dubcnn about the matter of "In The Mid-Nite Hour's" early illegal release;
"This is Warren’s uncle Wron G. My people in Germany, the UK and all over Europe are searching for the people who posted Warren’s album before release. We will do everything possible to find these rats. We have had a great relationship with dubcnn.com. Because of technology we can go after these people easily. We intend to be the first to prosecute and unveil these illegal pirates."
"Warren G loves his fans and knows a true fan would not steal from him. We are giving so much from this album to the victims of the Gulf Coast, so these rats are stealing from homeless people. We will find the original pirates and we will work with dubcnn.com and other links/sites to get information on everyone who downloads this record. We will publish names along with addresses of all downloaders. The F.B.I. has been notified and is monitoring the downloading of Warren’s heart-filled and soulful album. We love all of our g-funk fans and Warren has kept it real with all of you. So do not get caught up in this investigation. We are having dubcnn.com to block this download from their site/forums.
Dubcnn.com is respected for keeping hip hop alive and not killing it.
Wron G"
Please respect the artists wishes and the work that has gone into this release and support Warren G when he releases the album "In The Mid-Nite Hour" on October 11th.Discuss This Topic

DubCNN Katrina Benefit Concerts - September 21, 2005 By : SGV

As you already know Hurricane Katrina has devastated not only New Orleans, Mobile and Gulfport, it has devastated our great nation! We at DubCNN.com, AD² Inc., RapTalk Media Group, Ignite Films, iamonfiya Productions, World Promotions, Mac Billion Records, Eventworks and the Blue Relief Fund have banded together to assist in the relief effort with a series of concerts taking place nationwide.
These events will raise funds for: housing, food, water, rebuilding the cities in need and most important jobs and stability. We urge you to please support our benefit concerts we are setting up venues all around the country. This will help to generate capital that can be distributed directly to the victims. We are presently working with several non-profit organizations such as: The Blue Relief Fund, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Urban League, PAL and many churches across the nation.
We will throw benefit concerts in different cities and distribute resources to the appropriate non-profit per city (all non-profits are thoroughly screened before selected). Our plan is a simple one all we need is support from any non-profit that is willing to help. We will allow the non-profit to receive their proceeds directly after the event. A representative from the non-profit will be present when the event is over and they will receive their proceeds directly from the venue. This will insure that the non-profit organizations get the funding immediately so it can be disbursed properly.
We will basically charge a ticket fee for each concert, 70% will be donated to the victims and 30% will be used to compensate the organizations involved that are not non-profit. We have to pay all of their workers who work with us on these benefits per city. We will also collect other resources such as food and water etc. I hope that you see the vision here, people are in great need! This is a tragedy that can get worse if we don’t address it immediately. Please contact us if you'd like to donate ASAP.

B-Legit - Block Movement [Info + Audio] - September 21, 2005 By : Nima

A cornerstone in the Bay Area rap movement for over two decades, B-Legit is set to release his sixth album, "Block Movement", upon securing a distribution deal with SMC Recordings and Universal Music Group subsidiary Fontana. The move marks a three year absence for the gravel voiced emcee, a hiatus void of any albums, but conversely filled with community involvement, promo tours and the culmination of a media conglomerate. Independent of Sick-Wid-It Records, where B presides as COO, Block Movement Media Corporation, is shaping up as a full fledged entertainment company – DVD’s, clothing and an eventual magazine – all a part of future plans.
“Sic-Wid-It is ‘records’ and ‘media’ covers the whole nine,” B reasons. “I wanted to have something that was going to identify [me] solo, so it was time to expand the wings a little bit.”
As a key member of the group The Click, spearheaded by himself and E-40, B’s cousin and reigning “Ambassador of the Bay,” Legit contributed mightily to three culture defining albums in Down And Dirty, Game Related and Money & Muscle, all the while dropping his own heat, a catalogue that includes: Tryin’ To Get a Buck, The Hemp Museum, and Hempin’ Ain’t Easy.
A departure from his signature sound, B enlisted the talents of a good variety of producers across the country when piecing together Block Movement. From the sonic movement down South to old school mob music, more recent trends and even mainstream thump, “The Savage” promises to deliver a well rounded project that he likes to call “Feel Good Music.”
“It’s just music that you can feel,” Legit says. “It’s music with soulful hooks. Anybody that has a background from the South or the church, you can just feel those certain hymns and certain notes: the soul. [At the same time,] it’s whatever it is that makes you feel good. You get you a nice pair of shoes and a nice clean truck, drive off and listen to some feel good music.”
The Rick Rock produced “Guess Who’s Back,” featuring E-40, is currently setting B’s new standard, already earning a worthy amount of spins on the Bay Area radio stations. “That’s just to warm up my area to let them know I’m comin’ back,” he offers. “This is where the maturity and my support comes from: home.” Mall (St. Louis) and Gold Fingers (Dallas), do their part on the production side as well, delivering respective bangers in their own right. “What they do is bring that Midwest, down South sound over the Bay Area lyrics,” B explains. “It’s a beautiful combination.” Bay area producers, including LJ (“Friends” and “Wanna Know Your Name”), Ponte (“Kick It Tonight” and “I Can’t Change”) and Bedrock, also contribute, helping create B Legit’s most versatile album to date.
Hindered by Internet thieves, bootleggers and a failed deal with Koch, since his last album, Hard 2 B Legit, B is grateful to have found a team that is willing to support and protect his latest offering. “I was tryna find the right situation for me to land in,” he says. “I already had experience putting out records. I just needed some distribution and somebody that was willing to give me a push and I found that with [SMC], and going with the Fontana Distribution Network. All the Hip Hop stuff was there. It was just about finding me a home.”
Here are two preview tracks for ya'll to check out, to get a taste of B-la's new stuff:
B-Legit - Guess Who's Back (ft. E-40)
B-Legit - Block 4 Life (ft. Jadakiss & Styles P)
Block Movement is slated for release on Sept. 27th 2005.Discuss This Topic

Introducing : The Doty Boys - September 21, 2005 By : Rud

The Doty Boys (pronounced doe tee) consist of Melloe Won and Moe Moe a duo who have, in the past, worked seperately with various crews. As high school friends it was only a matter of time before they opted to join forces to create a new group, The Doty Boys. After rocking crowds in their hometown of Hawthorne, CA the two L.A. natives took their musical talents nationwide on a variety of car show tours such as Hot Import Nights, Import Revolution and Import Showoff. These shows gave Melloe Won and Moe Moe the opportunity to become seasoned performers and create a huge following on the import car scene.
Now the two performers are embarking on conquering the world with their new and refreshing music and it’s only a matter of time before the rest of the world outside the import scene acknowledge that these young men are destined for great things. As ever dubcnn has audio for you to preview, please drop feedback over at the world famous WCC Forums. If you like what you hear then you can order the CD which was released on Masterminds Entertainment, from CD Baby, where you can also hear more audio.

New Max Minelli & Paul Wall - September 20, 2005 By : SGV

We're still in the South for a moment! Outta Baton Rouge, Louisiana is Max Minelli. Some of you may have heard the names, other may not have. He's dropped a string of albums and mixtapes and he's works with the South Coast Coalition. He just finished his own installment of the Southern Smoke Mixtape series with DJ Smallz. You may have heard him on Southern Smoke 21, also.
But today, we got a new song from Max and Houston's own Paul Wall. Paul just recently dropped his album The Peoples Champ on Swisha House/Asylum. It's a double album, disc 2 is the Michael "5000" Watts Screwed and Chopped version. As for the track with Max though!
Though it is a very much a Southern track, you'll hear a very a distinct sample when the beat breaks down that I know the West Coast will love! This is your Parkin' Lot Pimpin' anthem of the year! Peep out "Find Me A Freak":
Max Minelli feat. Paul Wall - Find Me A Freak

Magno Ya Heard!!! (New Audio) - September 20, 2005 By : SGV

"My Mind Is A Prism, Filled With The Wisdom Of Old Folk!" - Magno
You know who the real source for your exclusive West Coast news and audio is... DubCNN! But, today, I'm takin' ya'll to Houston again. The "Rookie Of The Year" Magno aka Magnificent has blessed us with two new tracks in anticipation of his solo record, "Rookie Of The Year."
The "05 Mork N Mindy" Magno and Surreal team up over a Diplomats beat and wreck shop! Surreal comes off as a very above average female emcee. Not many females spit with her hunger and personality. And, as you could expect, Magno drops many clever punchlines and braggadocio rhymes. Magno let's it be known:
"The Only Artist That Can Sell Folk A Heart Attack"
Peep the song:
Magno & Surreal - Freestyle
"Sometimes, I Can Lose Faith, But That Changes When I Listen To These Dudes Tapes, Time To Give This Thang A New Face, I'm A Breath Of Fresh Air, I'm The Game's Toothpaste"
Magno is not playing! He's breaking the stereotype that Southern emcee's can't spit. He's got punchlines for days and great wordplay... But check it for yourself on this song "Nawf 2 Da Souf":
Magno - Nawf 2 Da Souf
All you NY Mixtape fiends... look out for Magno on the new DJ Clue mixtape titled, "Fidel Cashflow." Also, be on the look out for the "Sittin' Crooked In My Slab Vol. 2" And, request the Chops produced first single "Magnificent Bout His Cash" at your local radio station. WildLifeRecords.com

Bossolo - My Bloc (Audio) - September 17, 2005 By : Rud

Once again dubcnn is back to drop some info and audio on an artist that some of you that may not be aware of. Bossolo grew up in sunny California, another Rap artist representing the Inland Empire. Throughout his youth he was influenced by the music of Dr. Dre, Too Short and 2 Pac, as he listened, he learned and a deep passion for rap music nurtured within. Rap gave Bossolo a reason to live, without it he believes he would be a lost soul. Growing up was hard in a single parent home, no father figure just another ghetto child trapped in the streets of poverty and pain.
From drug sales to jail cells, gang violence and weed smoke, Bossolo found many days alone abused by Alcohol. Through all the struggles Bossolo found hope and started recording an album in the studio in the early 1990's as Smooth MC T however it was left unfinished after he lost his Fiance. 7 years later Bossolo regrouped and started pushing out CD's in the streets of Moreno Valley. Big Boss Solo, "The Game Aint Over" sold 5 thousand units while 2002's "Beyond 2002" sold 7 Thousand units with no air play just street grinding.
On December 24th 2003 came another heart breaking phone call that would change his life for ever, the death of his Younger Brother, murdered on the Streets of the I.E due to black on black crime. He dedicated his latest album, "My Bloc" to his younger brother that never got a chance to here the new product. The album was released through an independent label, Black Knight Ent. earlier this year. and his latest album "My Bloc" is Available at FYE, Wherehouse Music, Sam Goody and Virgin Mega-Store. Warren G - "In The Mid-Nite Hour" News - September 17, 2005 By : Rud

As we have been reporting over the past 8 weeks, Warren G is scheduled to release his fifth studio CD, "In The Mid-Nite Hour," on October 11, 2005. The album, his first solo release in five years, has the single "Get U Down," featuring B Real and Watts-based soul singers Side Effect which is currently blazing radio including Power 106 and The Beat. According to Warren G the album is a portrayal of Warren G’s musical take of what happens as the clock ticks past the big one-two: "A lot of things go on in the midnight hour, but I stayed up in the midnight hour making this record. I touch on everything and it's bundled in one big ball of funk."
With a 2005 edge to his trademark smoothed-out sound, the G child stays on the same course that led him to gold and platinum CD success, those classic hits "Regulate," "This DJ" and "I Want It All."
Along with Warren on "In The Mid-Nite Hour," are other guest collaborators including Raphael Saadiq, young rising star, Aftermath’s Bishop Lamont, G Funk Productions’ Frank Lee White (the latter two intro-ed to Warren by half-brother Dr. Dre), G Funk Productions’ Chuck Taylor, and Chevy Jones. Chop and screw rap expert Mike Jones gets down with Warren and watches his back on "In Case Some Sh$# Go Down, the album’s second single.
The aforementioned single, "Get U Down," tackles a myriad of issues, from black-onbrown violence in Los Angeles to our military entanglements in the Middle East, and a special version, "Get U Down Part 2" featuring a special dedication to Hurricane Katrina victims as well as guest spots by Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube, reminding people to stay strong and positive. Details are currently being worked out so that proceeds from various downloads of "Part 2" will go to the Red Cross to help Katrina aid relief efforts: "A lot of people aren’t really touching on what’s going on and they gotta wake up, even though we go through hard times you still have to smile, know that God is gonna work it out. That’s for the victims of Katrina and everybody around the world that’s going through stressful times."
Kevin Hunter will direct the "Get U Down Part 2" video which will be shot next week in different Cali locales with Warren G, B Real, Snoop and Cube. Paul Hunter will then shoot, "In Case Some Sh$# Go Down" shortly after that.Discuss This Topic
