Don't you think Oukast's first album is ten times more influential than they're following albums? I do.

Its possible, but I dont consider it their BEST album even though its classic. From an overall standpoint, ATLiens is their best work IMO. In some ways ATLiens is also their most influential album, cuz they completely flipped the script. Usually, when an artists changes too drastically, they are often accused of selling out. But not Outkast, as everyone embraced the second album equally as much, if not more. In anycase, you cant go wrong with any Outkast album.

..:West Coast:..
Ice Cube "AmeriKKKa's most Wanted"
A Classic album in any sense of the word...
Ice Cube had to come up with fire after being in what is considered one of the greatest Rap group's of all time (N.W.A.)
And his decision to head out east for help on his production was a move that changed the face of hip-hop forever...
It's of my opnion that Ice Cube bridged the gap between East & West & pretty much let the entire world know that we got that fire here in Cali.
Without any real radio play at all (Who's the mack) Ice Cube did the un-thinkable comin' from the west, a 5 mic classic.

..:East Coast:..
Eric B & Rakim "Paid in Full"
This album has to be the most quoted album in hip-hop history....
Just about every word spitt by Ra on this album has appeared in someone's hook or verse, Rakim's word play was almost scary...You can pretty much say that this lp was waaaaaay ahead of it's time. Once this album dropped it changed the face of the rap game...it was no longer a rapper & a dj...it became an Mc & his Music.
The words now ment as much as the sounds.
As Ra would say it
"Skillz nahh mean!!"
his impact is still being felt....."I'm the N-the-A-to the S-I-R if i wasn't I must...ect"

That's a classic Ra spitt."The R-A-K Iam....I f I wasn't then why would I say I am"

I could go on & on...but yall already know..

my 2 cents

Chronic....set the standards for the west and the whole industry
Enter The Wu....it had a huge impact worldwide, something illmatic didnt
Creepin On Ah Come Up....their debut, they were hard as hell on this cd, it threw the door open for the midwest
Southernplayalistic.....this is one of the best albums ever, it is ten times better than aquemini, this was a blueprint for alot of the laid back shit the south drops

My question wasn't asking what is the best albums of the 90's but what influenced the music and industry the most. I still don't understand what ATLiens influenced musically or culturally other than them demolishing their own sophomore jinx which only benefitted and influenced themselves. Their debut however brought something completely new out of the South. The only other respectable group of out the South was the Geto Boys but their lyrics were not mind blowing however when Outkast came on the scene with their first album they showed, as Andre 3000 put it at the '95 Source awards, "the South can rap too!". Their debut proved that there was more to the South than just booty or gangsta rap. It put Atlanta on the map for good and shifted the South's powerhouse of hip hop from Houston to Atlanta. Peace homie.

Yea, thats true I see what you're sayin. I would have to agree in that case, Outkast's debut is definaly their most influential album. However, I still think ATLiens and Aquemini are better both lyrically and musically, and the only reason Southernplayalistic is more influential is cuz it came first. Im not taking anything away from it though, cuz its still a 5 mic classic.
