Platinum artists from Game to 50 cent to Kool G Rap to Ras Kass to Crooked I etc all churn out mixtape after mixtape. Some hot some not.

I dont hear the likes of say Game rhyming half heartedly on his mixtapes as a matter of fact he's been improving with his rhymes on mixtape joints. Some of the artists best shit theses days are on mixtapes like say all those Eminem mixtape songs that wiped his enemy's all across the floor. All those dope crooked, Ras Kass songs or how 50 used mixtape shit to shut down Ja-Rule n murder ink.

Cube hardly puts out any songs let alone mixtape shit.

I'd personally rather he put all his effort into making the best possible album, than spend a load of time making mixtape tracks. Thats what will make me buy his album, not whether he has a buzz or not leading up to the release.

I completley agree with you, mixtapes suck, but its an important factor to create buzz.

Cube's catalogue speaks for itself.  As soon as he drops an official single/vid and sends it to BET/MTV, that'll give him all the hype he needs.  He doesn't need to drop a mixtape.

Well back in the day, they would put out the actual "single" being a single song and maybe a B side.  Since "singles" have pretty much died off, I'd say it's an official single when there's a vid released to the major vid outlets.
