Who believes Jimi Hendrix is the Greatest Guitarist ever?

I don't think you'd ever hear someone protest to saying Jimi was the best and that marks it for me. If not one personwould say "No way" then it's good enough to make him the best.

If people like Jimi I would recommend that they check out the people who influenced Jimi: Freddie King, Buddy Guy, Albert King, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf (Hubert Sumlin on guitar), John Lee Hooker.

Somebody like Clapton on the other hand has little to no personality that bleeds into his music.

I can see how one could easily come to that conclusion, but the Derek and The Dominoes album is one of the most beautiful albums as far as emotional guitar is concerned. If you've never heard it I would recommend it because it's Clapton's most personal and emotional album by far in my opinion.

I love Eric Clapton.  I think he's great, I like a lot of his music.  I've heard a lot of that album, and I know Eric loves and lives for the blues, and where his heart is.  ... but.  Compared to Jimi Hendrix?  It's just not even similar, if you're talking about personality.

What's the standard to which you can judge a person on who's the best? There's no way to know. Shredding as they call it, cannot be judged as being great. Because, alot of guitarist can shred. (Eddie van halen, Steve vai, and Malmsteen). Classical guitar is the hardest to play. I can't say he was the best. It's all in what you believe. I happened to think Guthrie Govan is one of the best guitarist to live. Jimi could play. But... he was also a showman and could do revolutionary things with sounds. That doesn't make you the best. So again, what's the standard?

Can't be. 1 reason is, Hendrix was never around to show the diversity of his playing. 2nd, by being the best, does that mean he's the fastest player? can he play all forms of guitar? I.E. Classical, Country, Jazz, and to be the best, he'd have to be the best in all three of those fields. That's impossible to judge. Playing a chord with your teeth doesn't make you the best. Also, in the form of rap... people say Eminem, rakim, or ras kass is the best rapper. You could no longer proove that. Because, who's to say there's not some person underground who could be better. Same with Jimi. In order to be the best you have to set some standard that "QUALIFIES" him the best. Not just because he's jimi hendrix. Music is the beginning of the standard. But, all else is cannot pe prooven. I'm not knocking Jimi. however, if you talk to any guitarist who teaches they will tell you, it can't be prooven.
