WEST COAST AT THE BOTTOM
« on: February 22, 2002, 05:51:42 AM »
Damn dogg its so sad how the west coast has tottaly fallen of the face of hip-hop.  Were not even in the hunt any more. I remember when we used to battle with the east, but now were not even up there with the south.  Just think what do we have right now.  We have Dre who drops a classic every 6 years, we have snoop who still sells 2x but the quality of real good music is not consitsant and what do we have after that.  Dont say kurupt, he has not been the same since Dogg Food his only quality solo release was "the streetz" the other two were doo. Daz is just an discrace now plus he's not anyone who can carry the west.
Death Row is probally the most disliked record label in the game nobody is feelin them right now, they have a couple of lyrist but you need more than just lyrics to blow up nowa days.
Meanwhile the east coast is dropping albums everyweek.  They are basically smashing the west. the wu is droping, n.o.r.e is droping, mobb deep is droping, jay-z is droping, nas is doing his thing, and there are a lot more than that.  Its sad that on west coast radio stations east coast artist get most of the play, hell even down south get more play than west coast.  I hear ludacris, j.d, cash monney, master p, and trick daddy more than west coast rappers.
Right now there is only one west coast artist on rap city and that knoc, he's good but nothing to hold a conversation about. It seems like when a west cost artist blows up they look for the movies, clothes, and they forget about the music, just ask snoop.  I dont think the west coast is dead but it is in a deep coma.
I know that this will probally afend most of you but it is just my thoughts.  Im upset that for me to hear a good west coast album I have to listen to 2001(witch came out mid '99) or doggystyle. Things just aint what they used to be.

If anyone thinks my eyes are closed and I just need to wake up let know maybe Im overlooking someone.

Most of the fans for JD, Ludacris, Jay Z are lil 8 year old girls that be singing their songs

MY lil cousin keeps on singing "h to the izzo"
And there are only a few rappers from the east that are real hip hop the rest are pop. Poppers are taking over.

Dr. Dre
Snoop Dogg
Xzibit

The only artists out of the West that get platinum plaques right now. The East and South are running the sales now but the only great albums they have put out were Stillmatic and The Blueprint. The rest have been straight trash. The thing that pisses me off is that the West hasn't put out a classic since Dr. Dre - 2001. I'm still waiting for the next West Coast classic. We been dropping hot albums but no album made me say it was classic on first listen. The West is capable...

Word, but West got far more HOT albums than East even if West can't have classics right now.
Xzibit's new one and Dre's are possible classics on the horizont.

[L.O.C.]

Well I think y'all know it's about QUALITY & not QUANTITY!! & IMO the west is where the best quality for my taste is, don't get me wrong I love the east but the west is always gonna be where my main focus is, I just feel it alot more, always have.

I think that if you take one of the 'O's' out of 'Good' it's 'God', if you add a 'D' to 'Evil' it's the 'Devil'. I think some cool motherfucker sat down a long time ago and said 'let's figure out a way to control motherfuckers'.

Id say there has been a ton of hot albums coming out of the West, just cause the Source/Mtv aint up on the West's nuts like it is Jay Z + Nas, doesnt mean the left coast aint puttin out tight shit. Sales are down, but that can easily be attributed to marketing, most cats think everything on the West is gangsta rap orientated and aint interested.

Also theres the age old argument of Westcoast fans not supporting westcoast artists, which for the last few years has been very true imo.
