Why happen to synthed out G-Funk?

Why don't West Coast producers use synths as much anymore? I think they should bring that shit back. I was listening to "Who Got Some Gangsta Shit" and was missing them synth noises. That was the essence of G-Funk. Warren hardly used it on his new album and Dre don't even do it no more. Anyone else miss that shit?

Hell ya i miss that stuff. That the whole reason i started listening to dre/ warren G was because of their production.  Whenever i wanna hear it, i just bump the old shit.

gotta love that g-funk synth, that shit it fucking tight, they still use it a little bit but not going through the whole song just like the chorus or sumthin like dat

They still use it, they just don't drown the songs in it... I think the reason is because Dre started using live instruments, and the synth's in the past were used to fill in the Rhythm sections of the tracks, now they don't need it because they got a live bass and live drums and live guitar work, etc. in there.  Before, they'd just key up a drum track, throw a bass line on, and layer the strings on the synth to fill up the track.  You can still hear it, though... off the top of my head, I remember it in "speed Dreamin" on warren's album, for shizzle.  But I know what you mean.  I wish dre didn't produce hollow nowadays... everything he produces is stripped down.  He don't layer anymore... layering is sloppy, right, but still it sounded tight.  

If you ever listen to the band "Cake" , they produce their stuff perfectly differintiated... you can hear every instrument seperately, nothing mixes together or bleeds something else out.  Dre does the same thing... but back in the days of wayback, he'd have 5-6 things goin' on at once, and it'd all blend together, he don't do that anymore.  Now he's like, Drums, Bass, Keys, Sound Effects, different keys, you can hear it all open with holes in between.   I mean, don't get me wrong, it sounds great, but I like that Thick soundin' instrumentals.  Like G Thang.  You got drums, bass, keys, 2nd keys, wah guitar, second wah guitar, cymbals, sampled vocals, all going on at the same time, throughout the song.  So thick....

To Trauma: I know what you mean with the different use of the instruments but nevertheless it`s rare to hear a whole song that is made by that synthi whistle like " ghetto bird " or so.
I also hoped that warren would use it often on his new album

If anyone knows a group maybe underground that still uses that synti whistle through their songs please holla at me.
I only know foesum who sometimes use it.

Hell yeah I miss the old G-funk sound. That is why I mosty listen to my old albums from the early 90's. And when I need something new, I just go out and cop a G-funk classic that I missed along the way. For example, I recently bought Domino's first album, and Kokane's second album "Funk Upon A Time". I have been listening to those alot lately. I am also looking for the Twin'z debut album.

i miss the old g-funk sound...but times have changed and i don't really think it's what common day hip hop headz want to hear anymore...just cuz we do...hip hop is mixed in with a lot of other genre's these dayz...and dre aint gonna bring it back cuz he is making a totally different approach every album...and if a fresh artist comes out using the g-funk sound then too many ppl would label them a 'copy cat' or 'out of date' and shit like that which is a real shame!

Yeah, I miss it alot sometimes, I mean thats where it all started for me,  on the ol' G funk tip   But then thats where all the listening to the older shit from the early Death Row days comes in handy. It's refreshing to go back to the G funk roots sometimes after listening to the newer stuff.

Oh hell yeah. Warren's album is dope. I was just hoping for some Old School G-Funk synth "whistles". I understand he gotta move forward and not backward though.
