Being a Snoop Fan ... or ... Not
« on: February 06, 2002, 06:37:34 PM »
I don't know what it is, but when I listen to Snoop sometimes, I get to thinking about stuff. Whether it's his music, his life, his image, or if its just something with my life. Maybe school, my job, my friends... I'm always thinking about something. Well today I got to thinking about what it's like being a Snoop fan. I'm open about it... you can call me a fanatic, but really I just enjoy it. Some people go all out in sports or go all out careers. I'm an all out Snoop fan. There's not a person I know, that does not know I'm a Snoop fan. A lot of my friends are Hip Hop heads. They think Snoop is just a one hit wonder... I guess thats cause they didn't stick it out. Most of yall know... I didn't get into Snoop until he dropped "Da Game Is To Be Sold, Not To Be Told" ... a lot of people wonder... how could you get into Snoop from that album... I don't know, but I felt that album. Music basically took over my life a few years ago. Some of my most depressive times and music got me through it. My favorite quote from that time is from Snoop.

"stay true to what you do and don't be ashamed"

How true indeed. I used his music as therapy for my problems... some people run from problems, others seek real therapy... others write, do art... there are so many ways... I listened to Snoop.' I had no knowledge of his past work... Doggystyle and Doggfather were just ideas I would learn later.

However what it comes down to is this.

SNOOP IS REAL

One of the realest in the game. Behind all the weed, behind all the women, behind the image is a soldier of words. People ask me...whats your favorite Snoop Dogg album...

Tha Last Meal

That's a dope album, probably my pick for album of the year, last year. I remember listening to "i can't swim" and thinking... people won't see what he's saying, people won't recognize the truth he spits. So I'll spit it for you.

Lemme tell you how it's gon' be
If I was broke loc, these bitches wouldn't want me
I'm tellin' you the good-god truth, you want proof?
Ask them hoes over there, "Y'all wanna fuck Snoop?" (yeah!)
We'll take the money and the game away, the fame away
I bet they won't say the same that day,

One of my favorite verses.  I like his other verse about the record execs as well. This song gets no respect. I guess because of the beat... Snoop is real

How about this verse from True Lies

And everybody happy for me - ain't that the truth?
That's a motherfuckin lie (fuck that fool)
Black folks stick together til we die, hmm
That'll be the day..

Anyone see how deep that is?  You gotta think... that verse right there is a problem spoken... yet Snoop gets no respect for that... snoop just smokes weed and sold out... yea... that'll be the day

What about Leave Me Alone?

I try to be to myself, and try to stay.. away from the world
But the world just keeps runnin after me (runnin after me)
I try to shield myself away from all the wickedness
but somehow, the wickedness is in my circle - what am I to do?

Yep, Snoop can sing too, however he gets nothing from this. Just Leave him alone.... nah, but the world just keeps running after him...

I'm a fan... I see this shit, I see these words and I think... yet he is percieved as un-intelligent. I laugh at the hate... because it's ignorance... its the truth...

I said let yo' mind not be confused
If you can walk this walk nigga take my shoes
You fools, these fools, new fools, all y'all
talkin bad about me, and my motherfuckin dawg

I don't know why I went on about this, I don't know how It got started, but the only way not to see, is not try to open your eyes... I know a few Snoop heads like me... it's not about the music... basically it's about the man... I remember reading about his murder trial and thinking, damn... what if i was in the situation... would i still push crip?  Hell No... it's obvious according to the case, that the trial was over self defense and thinking how Snoop could get life in jail over his own protection is deep. I respect my family, so when Snoop did, I just respected him more... the dogg speaks words only the deepest people can imagine. He may not speak large vocabulary, but he doesn't need to.... his words are overlooked anyway... i guess its the fan in me... I look into everything he spits and almost analize it...

And I'm here to change the rules cause I'm a player that loves to play
Did you thank the lord today?
Think I did and on that note young loc, I'm getting dose
Why you tell the truth?
Cause I'm hundred twenty proof from the turf to the roof
Bigg Snoop

I'm down with snoop too...and not for the "image thing",but 'cause i'm down with him since doggystyle/chronic..
i saw him on tour several times...i've read his book and after that i appreciate more this dude.
I still to love his music,ok...maybe he's not the best lyricist but for me will be forever at the top.
There aren't many rappers with the same snoop's status,
look at cats like jay-z or ja rule...they sell million copies but
they will never have a "fan base" like snoop!
For some people snoop is a fake...is no more a gangsta...bla bla bla, fuck that!
I will be always at the record store when a snoop's album drops...

"Martin Luther King's birthday is a symbolization, to me, of the turnaround and the change of my positivity and my rap within. It helps me to believe that I'm living his dream and...you know what I’m saying? I finally woke up and realized what his dream was about, and to be a part of his dream is putting positive songs on my album, being more of a role model, and trying to make a change and being more positive towards the kids--to what parents would want their kids to listen to my music--and that's the influence that Mr. King has on me as we speak," Snoop said."

That was some real shit you just said there Big BpG. You can tell your a real fan of the music, not alot of people care for the music/lyrics when listening to Snoop, I mean they hear them, but they don't listen. These are the fans too stuck on the image thing, but you can tell your mainly a fan of the music as you got into him through a totally different situation than most, you picked up on him through "The Game...", whereas most of us started on "Doggystyle" & "The Chronic". You say many people have asked how could you start on "The Game...", & the impression i'm getting is through the music, which is real.

Most people wanna label me a dickrider... saying I love Snoop too much... whatever... A lot of folks are always looking for another Doggystyle, however when it comes to Snoop's rhymes, he didn't show the smarts and intelligence he does now... it's all music... and no matter how deep you wanna get into it... Snoop always has something to say...

Yeah, good points there BPG.
Last meal was one of my favorites last year too.
Definately underrated.
Snoop's good at deeper meanings, you can listen to his album one year, and then a couple of years down the line you'll understand what he actually meant, or if you understood it the first time, you'll understand even more the next time. It's like he puts hidden messages and double meanings out on tracks, for fans to check out. Everybody point it out when Snoop say cars, bitches, money.. but no-one thinks much  about it when he comes through on some deep shit. And that's mah word.

yo Big BpG, i gotta give props to ya man, not only for what you said, but for also havin the link to this site on your website.  i came across your snoop website(great site, by the way) while searching the internet for snoop info, and you had a link for this forum, so i thought i'd check it out.  That was last september or so, and i've been coming to this site a lot since then.  And also, you represent Wisconsin, as do I.  This site has made me so much more informed about the rap game today, and i've been introduced to so many songs and albums through this site.  So thanks to you Big BpG as well as everyone else on this site.  As for snoop. i got much love for him.  I've been down with him since the days of doggystle, and have felt every album since then.  He is truly the realest in the rap game today, no matter what anyone says, and he is always expanding his horizons by collabing with all sorts of artists, and he was also one of the first to break all that west-east tension by collabing with a lot of east coast artists...peace

tight bpg...
but i think the image is important..
i mean, snoop is real orginal! and got a really intresting personal life.. so i think the image is one of the things thats make me love his music..
i mean, his life is like a fuckin movie..

and tha last meal was a tight album lyricaly, but its very diffrent compared to his other shit.. cause he aint shoutin stuff like "suge can eat big fat dick" , he is sayin stuff more sensetive...
