Source re-reviews some albums...new 5 mic albums..
« on: February 02, 2002, 04:13:42 PM »
Yo guys, i can't believe this but the Source has rerated some albums and gave 5 mics to ALOT of albums they felt they should have in the past.  Not a bad idea, but i feel it kind of proves their ratings are garbage.  Oh well, it is VERY hard to mic an album after only a week of listening, i am sure we would all fuck up too.

These are the new 5 mic albums, believe it or not....

jay-z- reasonable doubt
fugees-the score
2pac- me against the world
2pac- all eyez on me
mobb deep- the infamous
raekwon- only built 4 cuban linx
scarface- the diary
snoop dogg- doggystyle
wu-tang clan- enter the wu-tang 36 chambers
the notorious big- ready to die
ice cube- death certificate
geto boys- grip it! on that other level
main source- breakin atoms
dr dre- the chronic
dr dre- dr dre 2001
run-dmc- run-dmc
ll cool j- radio
beastie boys- licensed to ill
run-dmc- raising hell
boogie down productions- criminal minded
eric b and rakim- paid in full
boogie down productions- by all means necessary
public enemy- it takes a nation of millions to hold us back
big daddy kane-long live the kane
ultramagnetic mc's- critical beatdown
jungle brothers-straight out the jungle
epmd- strictly buisiness
slick rick- the great adventures of slick rick
the doc- no one can do it better
nwa-straight outta compton

Which ones to you think deserved 5 mics and which ones didn't?

All these albums are pretty well classics, and the definitipon of the Source's 5 mic rating is CLASSIC, not perfect.  My opinions on what should be 5 mics and what shouldn't be....

jay-z- reasonable doubt (no way, this album is not groundbreaking at all, and contains some seriously garbage tracks, ie Ain't No Nigga)
fugees-the score (yep, this album does deserve it cuz it was so different and refreshing)
2pac- me against the world (pac's best album ever, even if it did tail off at the end, at least he wasn't trying to be something he wasn't on this album)
2pac- all eyez on me (too many hits to not be 5 mics)
mobb deep- the infamous (nah, although it was raw and fairly solid)
raekwon- only built 4 cuban linx (i would say so, not one bad song and started the gangster mafioso thing that was so big )
scarface- the diary (one of my fav ever, not a bad song here)
snoop dogg- doggystyle (can't believe it never got 5 the first time)
wu-tang clan- enter the wu-tang 36 chambers (see above)
the notorious big- ready to die (see above)
ice cube- death certificate (never really been into this album, which is a shame....can't speak on it)
geto boys- grip it! on that other level (see above)
main source- breakin atoms (fo shizzle, not one bad song and Large Professor at hsi best, which is incredible)
dr dre- the chronic (of course)
dr dre- dr dre 2001 (not complete, but it sure is Classic)
run-dmc- run-dmc (brought rap to new levels)
ll cool j- radio (i can see why it is classic and i like LL, but i can't speak on it)
beastie boys- licensed to ill (damn, it is cool that they gave some white boys 5 mics...these guys are mad0underrated)
boogie down productions- criminal minded (one of the original gangsta rap albums, and maybe the best of the first bunch)
eric b and rakim- paid in full (rakim the god at his finest, of course it si 5 mics)
big daddy kane-long live the kane (damn this album is sick, if you don't know now you know)
ultramagnetic mc's- critical beatdown (Kool Keith at his best, this album is mindblowing)
epmd- strictly buisiness (this album is more sampled than any other hip hop album today)
slick rick- the great adventures of slick rick (one of the best albums ever)
the doc- no one can do it better (much deserved to the DOC)
nwa-straight outta compton (no kidding, this is a groundbreaking album)

I think Genius- Liquid Swors needs 5 mics, as does Warren G- Regulate and Makeveli.  Remember, The Source was not around to rate albums when the older albums came out.

tight shit... they had to go back and do this because they realised if the Blueprint is a 5 mic album... then there are 100's more 5 mic albums... lol...... I also think Eminem deserved 5 mics for one of his albums.

i think that this is fucken garbage.  they only doin it cuz they relized that alot of people dont like the source now cuz of their bullshit ratings.  they gave jay z 5 mics now they gon give albums like doggystyle and tha chronic 5 mices.  well its kinda fucken late man cuz their shit came out almost ten years ago.their ratings dont mean shit cuz they thought that tha chronic was good but after it sold all those albums and is CLASSIC as fuck then they had to give it 5 mics.  i guess this means that their rating aint gon mean shit nemore. >:(

There is no way in hell that Dr. Dre 2001 is a 5 mic album. It is a good album, but no way in hell is it a classic, especially the second half. Give it 4 mics.

Nah Man, IMO You're Wrong, The Album Is Classic. Not 5 Mic's But Classic.

Classic Songs On That Album:

Still D.R.E.
What's The Difference
Forgot About Dre
The Next Epsiode
Some L.A. Niggaz
The Message

Then - The Watcher, Fuck You, Bitch Niggaz, Xxplosive & Housewife Are Very Good Songs, Not Classic, But Still Very Good.

Take All The Skits Out And Bullshit Talking & You've Got An Impressive Album.

most of those albums do deserve 5 mics...but it sometimes takes me a couple of weeks to feel a whole album...for example the first week u have an lp u skip through songs to make sure u hear them all and pick out ur favourites...then it's only after a while u know bits from every song and start to like the whole album...probably what happened here! either that or they realised how many ppl thought they were bollocks cos of the previous ratings they gave the albums!
