How does a sugary drink minimise someones ability to participate in a sport?

All these "diet" etc. drinks taste horrible (if you can even say they taste at all), they are like supermarket brand colas and taste flat.

The worst yet is that Coca Cola Zero which is basically Diet Coke, it's being marketed to men because they know men are too embarrassed to buy Diet Coke because it's looked upon as a ladies drink.

It doesn't, but drinking something with 42 calories pr. 100ml obviously isn't too smart if you're serious about sports or working out, especially not in high quantities.
That's 630 calories in a 1.5L bottle.

We don't have CC Zero over here, and we don't even use the "Diet" word, we use "light" instead.

There's a new Coke & Pepsi out every few months, I can't keep track of all the new ones.  We had Cherry Coke, then we Had Vanilla Coke, now we have Black Cherry Vanilla Coke.  We had Vanilla Pepsi for a while, then we had Lime Pepsi for a while.

Oh man, you need to read up on the sugar industry, they're just as mafia as the tobacco industry.
Every time they discover/develop a sweetener that is sweeter, or better than sugar, and containing less (or no) calories than sugar, the new sweetener either gets banned by politicians "advised" by sugar industry lobbyists, or they produce some rumours that the new sweetener can lead to cancer, abort, sterility, or some other disease. They don't even need to prove or justify it, a rumour is enough, or some "research report" paid by you know who. The sugar industry puts money in so many million peoples pockets, that they can't risk some new sweetener taking over the market. Pepsi co. & Coca-Cola co. want new sweeteners to get the best sugar free sodas, and has been fighting with the governments around the world, but at the same time, they don't want to step on the sugar industry toes, because they're dependent on them for their headline sodas.
Why you think so many sweeteners gets banned in U.S... think about it.
