Gran Turismo to come with no cars........or tracks (PS3)
« on: September 20, 2006, 03:56:04 PM »
"The microtransaction-focused game, Gran Turismo HD: Classic will be the online-focused entrant into the GT-series. In this game, players will (reportedly) start with no cars or courses available to them. Instead, they will need to purchase their stable of cars and courses to race on. The pricing reported in the Famitsu piece indicated that cars would cost between 50-100 yen ($0.43-$0.85) and courses between 200-500 yen ($1.71-$4.26). There are approximiately 750 cars and 50 tracks available for purchase in the GT: HD Classic. Let's do the math:
# 750 cars for $0.50-$1.00 (Sony will round-up, don't you think?)
# 50 tracks for $1.50-$4.50

A complete copy of the game will cost gamers somewhere between $426.50 and $975"

The premium version will come with 30 cars and 2 tracks.....

I'm hoping thats a fake article (which I guess it could be), if not I feel very sorry for people planning to buy a PS3.

To be honest, this really doesn't surprise me at all. It seems like at least once a week an announcement is made to make the PS3 less and less appealing.

Plus, you get to play the whole thing with no rumble! Yay!  Leave it to the BRILLIANT MINDS at Sony Entertainment to release a driving game with NO CARS and NOWHERE TO RACE your NO CARS

What the fuck are they smoking over there?

These are the same people that are releasing the ps3 at a price point that the PRESIDENT OF SONY says in interviews "Most households can't afford".

?

What in the fuck is wrong with these people?  I've never seen somebody take such a fucking Dive, I'm starting to believe Bill Gates and Shigeru Myamoto paid somebody at Sony to fubar the ps3 launch beyond belief.

This is a good time to examine the differences between sony and nintendo, I think.

Now, if Sony does this, they'll release the game for 60 bucks with no cars or tracks, thereby making it impossible to play offline... you'll have to buy each car and track, making the complete game 900 bucks.

If Nintendo did it, they'd sell the game for 20.00, with 3 cars and 5 tracks.  you'd be able to buy additional cars and tracks, and race your friends on line for pinks.

"Many people were looking forward to Ken Kutaragi's keynote speech to fill in the many blanks, and with only 2 months to go until launch, give details. Unfortunately most of the speech was filled with technical details on GPS, GMS, shopping, banking, networking, and so forth. A few noteworthy things, demos will cost $1, you will be able to download 16bit games..."

I mean, $1 is not that much, but the whole idea of paying for demos is ridiculous.  :)

I'm starting to wonder what Sony meant by saying "basic" online service was going to be free.

What the fuck do they mean by "basic"?

TGS 2006: Gran Turismo For Cheap
Sony to practically give away first PS3 entry

September 23, 2006 - Bummed about Sony's micro transaction plans for Gran Turismo HD? Well this news might soften the blow just a bit. Japan's Impress Watch games site reports that, in comments made to the Japanese press, series producer Kazunori Yamauchi revealed that Sony plans to make GT HD available for the cost of the game disk and instruction manual. This suggests a retail price point of just a few dollars for the first PS3 Gran Turismo game.

This form of distribution is not new in the online gaming world. The PC version of Swing Golf Panya, for instance, is available for free. All monetary transactions coming when players purchase items. The PC title has thus far been a big success.

GT HD will include two main modes of play, Sony revealed earlier this week. Classic mode is basically Gran Turismo 4 running in 1080p along with a few other visual enhancements. The focus of this mode is on online play. Players race one-another online and purchase cars and tracks for a few dollars each. This mode won't include any courses and tracks from the start.

In comparison, those who want a more offline-oriented experience will be able to try out Premium mode. In addition to offering an early glimpse at the Gran Turismo 5 graphics engine (the actual GT5 won't be released until 2008), this mode will include 30 cars and 2 brand-new tracks right out of the box.

Sony clarified at TGS that Premium mode itself will have downloads. Players will be able to download 30 additional cars and a couple of additional tracks at the time of the game's release. The timing of these downloads suggests that they will not be free.

Development on Gran Turismo HD is currently at the 70% mark. A Japanese release is set for December.
