Song sequel discussion! (Quiks groove, Jane)
« on: November 07, 2006, 02:35:16 PM »
I been bumpin alot of EPMD shit lately, and i gotta say their sequals to "Jane" is hella dope, where they make a new twist to the Rick James classic.

there is like one Jane on every album, i belive there is 6 songs.

Jane
Jane II
Jane 3
Who killed Jane?
Jane 5
Jane 6

and of course we got DJ Quiks "Quiks Groove", from 1 to 6... and we shall not forget MC Eihts Def Wish, 1 to 4.

there's been many part 1 and 2, but is there other artists that have done many sequels to their songs?

Pretty interesting topic.Props for that

The first that come to mind are $hort's Freaky Tales. You got More Freaky Tales, These Are The Tales...

You got also Mr. Scarface, Mr. Scarface Is Back & Mr. Scarface Part III The Final Chapter

And Dre's The Watcher. We've got 2 official versions and there was a third if I recall correctly, don't know who was on it, was it official or not

I wouldn't say these songs are sequels, but they are definitely related and almost continuations....

Dr. Dre ft. Snoop - Nothin but a G thang
Snoop ft. Dre - Next Episode (unreleased, meant for Doggystyle) - Is mentioned on G Thang..."just chill, til the Next Episode"
Dr. Dre ft. Snoop - The Next Episode - The released version, which was still set up by the same line in G Thang
Dr. Dre and Snoop - The Wash - Samples the second half of the same song that G Thang sampled, Leon Haywood "I wanna do somethin freaky to you"....and incorporates several lines from G Thang "Now back to the lecture at hand" "Fallin back on that ass" and the way Snoop sings "If you tryna get a dub sac, page me, the homies say D-Loc you so craazy" imitates the way he sang "Ain't nothin but a G Thang Baaaby"

So yeah....I still see those songs as being closely linked.
