Classic Albums: 2000-2005

more than half of this decade is over and i was wondering what everyone thinks are some West Coast classics between 2000 and 2005

i havnt really thought about my official list but a few albums im debating about are:


Daz- RAW
Snoop Dogg- Last Meal
2pac- Better Days
Daddy V- Compton OG
Hi-C- Hi Life Hustle
Mac Dre- Ronald Dregan
Daz- U Know What Im Throwing Up
Thug Lordz- N Thugz We Trust
Xzibit- Restless
Xzibit- Weapons of Mass Destruction

Man, some of the albums on the first list are SERIOUSLY debatable (U Know what im throwin up?, what r u thinking?) Any ways, i dont think there are many albums that can be considered classics in the last 5 years. But i would say there are some decent contenders for that title. Heres my list, and my reasons.

1) Nas - Stillmatic - Nas was on a serious comeback after the pile of thrash that was Nastradamus, He put some serious effort into the concepts of this album. The first 10 tracks of this lp blew me away.

2) Dj Quik - Trauma - Ok, this debatable but i think quik really came strong on this album. He sounds hungry as hell, the beats are a mixture of Safe and sound and Balance and options. The fact that he made it nice and short also makes this a classic. No skits, no fillers, just pure quik for a solid 45 minutes.

3)The Game - Tha Documentary - I think The game has proved himself with DA( Which is better than this) but his debut i really good. When was the last time the westcoast had a fresh talent representing worldwide?

There are probly other albums that i would consider classics but i cant think right now.

very true, however, C-Bo's Enemy of the State was crazy as hell. that album was soooo fuckin hard for its time. Daz, WC, Yuk, JT etc....everyone was on that album. There isn't one track on that album i skip. Bo was straight out of jail and hungry as fuck. I listen to his shit now-a-days and wonder what the fuck happened. That album to me is one of the best albums out of the west from the new millenium. call me crazy, but i call it classic. hands down.

The Documentary

Quality wise it was a great album, a lot of classic songs and no wack songs but Game did sound quite amateurish with his flow, someone else put it best sometimes it sounded like he was just reading off the paper. I would give the album a near classic rating personally (4.5/5) but the only thing that makes this an arguable classic is that it did resurrect the West, not fully but it did shed light back on the West Coast similar to what Dre did in '99. I don't think many of these newly signed West Coast artists would have got their deals if it wasn't for the success of The Documentary. Plus I have a feeling many West Coast albums are gonna sound like The Documentary with the whole "universal sound".

That's pretty much the only album I can think of that matched quality with impact from the West Coast since 2000. I'm not calling it a definite classic since it's too early to tell (although it still gets regular rotation) but it's definitely a future candidate.
