I'd use these eras:- Early Death Row. The prime.Snoop is Dre's extension and is completely G-Funk'd out. - Late Death Row. Beyond his prime and failed to live up to expectations for his new album. Has gotten out of his status as Dre's man. Experiments with some mild R&B-ish music on his second album.- Early No Limit period. Snoop tries to hold on to a overly gangsta image and forsakes his middle artistic name, possibly as a symbolic sort of musical rebirth. The low-point of his career.-Late No Limit/ pre-Dogghouse period. Snoop realises the westcoast is where he belongs and tries to get back. Hence, appearances by a variety of westcoasters on No Limit Top Dogg, a reunion with Dr. Dre and the plans to become a westcoast don with enormous respect on the west coast. The extremely westcoast first Eastsidaz-cd as well as the slightly more mainstream, but virtually No-Limit-less Tha Last Meal should be seen in this light.-Dogghouse period. Snoop cuts ties with No Limit, and once again with Dr.Dre. Takes a funky gangsta route, musically. He feels he is the big man of the westcoast and tries to build a new Death Row under his supervision. He fails.-Early Doggystyle records period. Snoop's own label heads in a new, and decidedly more poppy direction. In the course of this period, he loses Kokane, Tha Eastsidaz, Kurupt,Bad Azz, E-White and others. Enter The Neptunes and the whole assorted poppy roster that 'graces' his work from now on.-Late Doggystyle Records. Snoop tries to seriously claim the royal crown of the westcoast again, and advocates unity and coalition. Reconnects with various people, including Dr. Dre. The poppiness remains but is somewhat diluted. Wether this a slight, but in the end unimportant bump in the route to being a pop star or a true near-return to old ideals remains to be seen.As for my favourite, that would have to be Early Death Row period, followed by the Dogghouse period.Well said homie.
